Haven't seen any threads about fairy-kei in a while and I wanna talk about it,so here goes! Feel free to share pics as well.

-What are your wardrobe staples and how do you like to use them?

-Favorite motifs?

-What things do you think are over- or underrated in fairy-kei?

-Dream items?

-Do you have a favorite brand, and what you like about them?

-Do you incorporate yumekawaii/fancy aesthetics into other aspects of your life, like home decor?

Never been too deep into FK (maybe it's the 80s stuff, just don't have nostalgia for it) but I love yumekawaii aesthetics and motifs so there's always a bit of crossover. Curious to see more from this thread.

Lately I've been absolutely loving anything "sleepy" - pajamas, clouds, moons with closed eyelids, stars, so forth. Maybe because I miss getting lots of restful sleep, haha.

I really wanna use a shopping service to snag this shirt from melon_melon on Suzuri.

-What are your wardrobe staples and how do you like to use them?
I have a cherrycheezy rosette from back when she sold them that gets pinned on top of what may admittedly be too many cords. I love the variety or textures it adds and the art is even super cute on it's own! Besides that, dress in picrel is a comfy and easy base to work off of that sees a lot of use! My oversized knit rainbow cardigan makes regular appearances as well in colder weather. Why chose a color scheme when you could have them all?

-Favorite motifs?
I'm a sucker for sweets motifs, (no pun intended!) I often find myself having to keep my collection of parfait/cream soda/etc. necklaces in check before it takes over! I also love magical girl compacts, wands and whatnot, but I don't like to buy anything from a show I haven't watched which limits that somewhat. Night sky motifs, confetti and castles are also top-tier.

-What things do you think are over- or underrated in fairy-kei?
Sneakers are obviously super popular and there's absolutely nothing wrong with that, but I do like how more delicate shoe options like mary-janes can look with certain coords. I sometimes use the same shoes I wear with sweet lolita in fairy looks.
I'm not at all a fan of baby themes, all those bottles and cradles and blocks are just off-putting to me, but they're inescapable.

-Dream items?
It may not count as a dream item, but to this day I have never had one of those pastel 80s sweaters, I just can't justify the cost they usually go for to myself. Something I'd actually snatch up if I ever got the chance is the 6%dokidoki la coquette dress.

-Do you have a favorite brand, and what you like about them?
Nile perch my beloved <3 What's not to like? Great quality, versatile, unique pieces that hit all my boxes for cuteness.

-Do you incorporate yumekawaii/fancy aesthetics into other aspects of your life, like home decor?
My room is full of art prints and stuffed animals, and I keep some of my accessory storage on display. All my kitchen utensils are pastel colored as well. I'm hesitant to order bedding online but if anyone has tips or reccomendations I'd love to hear them!

I've always wanted one of the pastel sweaters I always saw on tumblr back in the day, and I was at Belk a few weeks ago and they had a sweater with pastel hearts and ruffles on the shoulders on sale for $20. I'll drop the link if anyone's interested. I was surprised that Belk would have anything that would even borderline suit fairy kei. It's sized oversized so don't size up more than your usual size unless you really like things oversized. I normally go for a medium and the small is somewhat oversized on me. https://www.belk.com/p/crown-ivy-womens-long-sleeve-ruffle-jacquard-sweater/180439472623HOS000080.html#q=heart+sweater&lang=default&start=5

When fairy kei was all over tumblr back in 2014 or so I got out all my old 90s toys and decorated my room with them. I've kept my room pretty much the same since then, just adding the occasional new Sanrio addition. I think my dream item right now is a pair of pastel 80s sneakers. The 80s are in right now so hopefully I'll get a pair soon. I used to really want one of those pastel rainbow tutu things. I bought fabric to make one, but never got around to it.

People like Pikarin didn't help, doing a whole ass makeup tutorial for it on Kawaii Pateen years ago. The tutorial was just telling people to do whatever as long as it's cute and messy lile a kid.

>> No.10849536

nta but most fashions don't have big communities in japan like in other countries(they do in china though). sometimes people will make friends with others in the same fashion, but there's no real need for communities in japan like there is elsewhere. getting harrassed or something is highly unlikely there. couple that with the existence of areas like harajuku which were full of fashion stores and shops that catered to people into those fashions (like gothic cafes etc.) or like shibuya being an entire gyaru district full of clothing stores, salons and restaurants catering to gyaru, there's no need to have separate communities. sometimes you could find posts (on like girlschan) from people not living in the city asking others to meet up, or brand fans having brand only meets, but nothing else. communities just aren't necessary there.

no problem. i remember in the 2010s when i was there i'd see "meet up" posts for things like goths who wear white outfits or specific brand dresses/series (like rococo bouquet only meets ups) which was interesting. gyaru had gyarusa which were the closest thing to communities, but those were more recreational and spontaneous in my experience. and even for event type stuff like arrange parapara flash mobs at shibuya crossing you'd have multiple gyarusa attending together.

If you order cut-and-sew, it could be about 45$ per shirt. The amount I would have to buy to reach any comparable saving is insane although, yes, I could save a little with a bulk program. Point is, in order to sell quality, it's hard to get by without at least spending 30-40 per shirt with shipping and all. Alternatively, you can go with the cheapest printer at 14 dollars a shirt and get something that won't last. Sometimes with smaller items, they'll try to make up lost profits for larger items. After all, if you priced your shirt at 40$ and use art's cow, you may only make 5-10 profit at most. Making quality clothing is expensive without a large MOQ and you have to be able to sell in the hundreds of items monthly to even make it cheap. Then, if you were selling hundreds of items, you likely would be pricing your clothing higher.

Leggings, often times I feel some artists try to make up with leggings knowing they're only making a couple bucks off shirts. So, they upcharge the leggings and lower their profits on shirts.

I didn't say they were good quality. With artsmoo, you're paying 14.25 with the wholesale discount per item. That being said, at no point did I mention artsmoo. If you're not using artsmoo, you're paying even more. So, it makes sense if people are wanting to make at least 15$ profit, why they're charging what they do.
>>10851570
So they're just supposed to risk getting a large number of products that they may never sell? It's assuming people feel like taking a risk losing $1000 just for a small run each of a handful of items just to flesh out a site. Most don't feel they can match 'brand name' so they're not going to take the risk.

you don't know anything about making clothing if you think it costs that much. business includes risk, it's always a gamble. designing clothing isn't just some fun hobby to get likes and shares and overcharge for garbage to recoup lossed from poor planning. also they don't want to compete with brands, don't sell for brand prices. most japanese brands start with one girl going to a local print shop selling stuff passionately and losing money. these tiktok/twitter/tumblr clout chasers can't even fathom it.

I agree that her art is really cute! I got a keychain in my order (a printed acrylic one, not resin), and it's super cute! But I doubt she's going to improve over time because she thinks this is acceptable as her products are handmade. The descriptions of her jewellery specifically say that they contain bubbles or other imperfections. If someone can look at a giant blob of resin on the top of a ring and still think it's worth selling, then I doubt they'll change anything. Especially since every drop, she sells 90%+ of her stuff within an hour or so. But I'd love to be proven wrong!
