CarrierCon 2023. Did anyone here go?

yee it was fun, I'm going to bring a costume next me. nice to see a local con make it into our bizarro corner of the internet.

who else got trapped on the flight deck before the flyover when they stopped letting everyone down the stairs for half an hour?

Now that is bizarre. I talked to a staff member about the flyover but he said he had no idea about a flyover happening. I left around 12 o'clock, so did the flyover actually happen?

Yup, although it happened 10 minutes late. It was actually pretty cool. Here's a twitter link with some photos of it (not my pics), since I'm paranoid about posting my own photos on 4chan: https://mobile.twitter.com/madscienceskill/status/1637472215355772930

Also my first message should say "next time" not "next me", typo.

That's incredible, and with prop planes too. You'd think they'd be more open about something like that. Now I'm a mite miffed I missed it.

This con seemed pretty successful so I imagine they'll have another. Assuming you're local to the bay, we also have Fleet Week, so you can get your fix of prop planes in then. I was there from 12 to closing, so seems like you and I almost exactly missed each other.

Some other fun highlights of the con for me:

Scantily clad cosplay girl posing for a photo with her back to the planes throughout the entire flyover. I guess she wanted a photo of herself looking sexy with the planes approaching from behind her. But of course this means she never actually got to look at the planes, lol.

A metric fuckload of stormtroopers.

A single solitary furry wandering through the con and randomly appearing at different times and places.

A couple zoomer girls getting a selfie flipping off the American flag on the flight deck and presumably thinking they were original and edgy for doing this.

The best Master Chief cosplay I've ever seen, full-body armor, no idea how the guy underneath managed stairs. Never saw him take the helmet off.

Con staff never stamped my hand on entry. I went outside for food. Realized I was the only one in my crew with no stamp. Came back to the entrance, showed my ticket, asked for stamp. Con staff waved me through, and again refused to stamp my hand.

Also no mask/vax check or other covid bullshit, which makes me think maybe CA cons are finally becoming sane again. Easily the most laid-back con experience I've ever had.

I'm the anon who just posted the novel about my con experience (not OP) and I didn't see anyone dressed as Ambrose Burnside.

It was an unexpectedly fun con, the flyover was dope. Azur Lane people were cool and was fun to nerd out with some naval/aeronautic otaku. Was nice to see other series you normally don't see a whole lot of at regular cons be more predominant.
The aircraft were great for taking photos of and with.
Seconding what >>10844483 said about them not having any medical theater, hopefully the vaxie shit is done for.

Is that your crew? You guys were really cool, I loved your sailor hats. Saw you wandering around here and there.

Oh damn people here went to this? I live in Alameda and always thought no one attended this one. Guess I'll pay more attention next time. Were there any Kantai Collection cosplayers?

>> No.10844931

>>10844811
I was only there for an hour or 3 but from what I saw there were just AL cosplayers that were probably only there for the official promotion.
>>10844660
Thirding what >>10844483 said because 90% of my cosplay depended on not having my facial hair covered.

I think all of this is just a result of a bunch of boomers being super happy that their charity-based museum ship was given a ton of publicity and donation possibilities. The fact that they were lax on covid hysteria despite Alameda being extremely draconian even for liberal bay area standards sorta proves that. Sometimes boomers are a'ight.
