Pretty much my feelings. I'm looking at every dress here and it all feels really blah and familiar, in a bad way.

But I'm here for accessories and rereleases only at the point. AP's new releases haven't caught my eye for years. Some of the prints are nice, but they are either polyester or all over prints and I just give up.

Someone posted a fashion show report:
There were 10 more dresses than what was on display for pre-order

Basically only 4 prints total shown instead of 6 (1 per month) like it was the last two years:

-Lyrical Bunny Parlor
-Fluffy Bunny Puff
-Unnamed tulip print
-Unnamed toast and bear cookie print

And the rest were solids or a premium dress with a 2022 print (Rose Tassel)

I can see why the chinese lolitas were disappointed. Fluffy Puff Bunny is basically just a Moco Moco Bunnies lookalike and that toast print sounds like Ichigo Bread Bakery x Bear's Chocolaterie.

You have to be extremely descriptive to even get an idea of what a new solid dress could look like, so a sentence or two doesn't really help much...

The new dresses were soulless and the tea party itself sucked ass. I was starving after it because there was so little food.

The private party special items are pathetic too. Where are the original colours or special sets this year? They’re selling leftovers from previous store renewals. What’s the point if AP isn’t going to try. I’m going to put my invite in the bin because it isn’t worth going to.

That's me when I read the caption for the tulip dress and it mentions both the blouse and OP having embroidery. My first thought was something beautiful like picrel, but knowing nu-AP it's going to be some janky applique of a fucked up bunny that's been hot-glued in place.

It seems like they have different designers; Maki and Asuka don’t seem to work there anymore as they used to be the faces of the company but haven’t been at events in years. So the art took a decline without Maki illustrating it, and it’s likely that other designers changed (they weren’t the only designers, just the ones that were the face). In addition, it seems like they might have tried to just cut costs rather than raise prices until recently which probably led to some decrease in quality.
Honestly I’m surprised that they aren’t just doing way more rereleases since it would basically be like printing money and Honda (the owner) is very much a businesswoman.

Maki and Asuka still work there, they've both been promoted to higher positions so they don't have time to be the faces of AP like they used to be when they were just designers. Maki is still illustrating. Asuka took a more business centered job with bigger responsibilities within the company.

I think part of it is the price increase, and the late release of the print. If you buy the dress and you live in China, sometimes it takes like a week for ap to ship it, which leaves only 2 weeks for it to arrive before Christmas is over. It's certainly why I didn't buy it, even though I wanted a christmas dress this year.
The same reason why only the pink jusk has sold out from ap Paris, it takes 2-4 weeks for the store to get the shipment, imagine if they arrived in January.
Or the maybe the print is truly just mediocre.

It's kind of odd they want it to go on sale so badly. Usually it takes months before something is discounted, which will after a lot of holidays/less relevant, and surely by then there will be some other release that catches their eye? I agree the price increase was too much though, especially for just polyester and a pretty simple cut. Can't wait to see the OP be $500+ on AP USA.

>>10821880
I didn't think much about the timing, but now I'm laughing because the earliest AP USA will be releasing this is next weekend, which is exactly 2 weeks away from Christmas weekend. I'm not sure if AP JP is expediting any stock to them. It seems unlikely.
But, I don't buy themed/holiday prints, so I'm not sure exactly how late AP has released prints like this in the past.

I’m living in Tokyo now and people have asked why I don’t run a shopping service. Buying from AP is already hard just getting things for myself. So many people show up to draw numbers for popular releases it’s the luck of the draw if you get a good time slot.

If you’re within the first 12 to purchase, chances are you’ll get a main piece but it may be the last one even with purchase limits. So you wouldn’t even get your first choice color. Some stores have more inventory but majority only 3 to 4 of each cut/color. Shinjuku seems to get the most foot traffic as they have the most stock. I’ve seen up to 80+ people in line. Limited MTOs can also run out. So waiting until 1pm to call in can still be risky if Dream Doll is sought after. And with Dream Doll one person can order up to 8 dresses.

However, I haven't seen anyone on the English side of social media talking about the MTO today. It's very odd. Are Chinese lolitas talking about it? I feel like the price increases and general disillusionment with AP is going to keep production within the cap.

The only recent MTO I can recall definitely hitting cap was the Cinamoroll jsk in sax; they opened a second run delivering slightly later and it still sold out I think. I suppose it depends on the manufacturer or how many orders they anticipate vs. actual demand. Sugary Carnival was absurdly popular but didn’t hit order limit, so I guess they went in prepared.

>> No.10826074

They say "original" as in "AP's original print." It's not a new print exclusively for the lucky pack or anything.
It's going to be a print that didn't sell well this year. This kind of lucky pack is only worth it if you have no style or quality preference. Even though it's "cheap," it's just a way for AP to get rid of things that wouldn't sell if you could see what they were beforehand.

Need advice gulls, buying myself a belated holiday present and have decided I’m finally gonna jump on the Melody Toys train and get myself a Salo for a versatile casual/fairy-kei/yumekawaii coord. Gonna order directly from AP USA cause I want one both brand new and it’ll get here right away since I live in LA.

Only problem is I’m torn between the pink, sax and lavender colorways. (black is automatically disqualified as an option so don’t even ask)

Out of these 3 which of these is generally considered the “best” colorway?

I’m leaning more towards either the pink or sax, pink because judging from worn photos I’ve seen the pink colorway looks a bit more “pastely/light” than the sax which seems quite a bit “brighter/loud.” Is that accurate or is the sax color lighter irl? I also like sax though cause it seems like the border print “pops” out more so to say so idk.

Lavender would only be an option cause I recently bought an AP Lavender Cutsew and something that matches it would be ideal but no big deal if it doesn’t, I’ll just wear another top. (I’m not even sure if the lavender colorway would match it? It seems to be two completely different shades of lavender).

TL;DR: My questions I want answered.

1. Between pink, sax and lavender, which Melody Toys colorway is generally considered the best?

2. Is the sax colorway as bright/dark irl like it looks on worn photos online?

3. Which colorway best matches pic attached?

When in doubt, just open up Photoshop and collage pieces together for 5 minutes

The print does not contain lavender in it, so I don't think that cutsew would match the sax.

Just wanted to say if I could talk you out of buying a salopette, I would.

>1. Between pink, sax and lavender, which Melody Toys colorway is generally considered the best?
I think sax is the most "iconic" colorway for the series. Before it was beaten with the rerelease stick by AP, sax was always the most popular colorway secondhand. But I feel like no one cares now, because Melody Toys lost all its ~prestige~ or whatever.

>2. Is the sax colorway as bright/dark irl like it looks on worn photos online?
I don't really know how to answer this, but Melody Toys isn't really a "pastel" dress in the first place. It's always been a harsher, more saturated print. I mostly wear pastel sweet stuff, and even my semi-faded Melody Toys in the collar cut sticks out against my wardrobe because it's darker.
(The pic is mine. The headbow is from a rerelease, so it's not faded at all. I put it up against the sax/pink MTOs of Sugary Carnival and the pink/white/sax MTOs of Toy Fantasy. The lighting in my wardrobe is kind of yellow, but hopefully this gives you an idea.)

>3. Which colorway best matches pic attached?
I don't think lavender really works with Melody Toys. But maybe I'm crazy.

What’s wrong with salopettes? As I said in my OP this is meant to be for either a casual coord or possibly a non-lolita Fairy Kei/Yume Kawaii coord. I thought salopettes are perfect for either one of these?

>>10826851
I lack editing skills, but thanks nonny this really helps a lot! Judging from the pics the purple colorway does seem to match the best just as I thought, but also the shades are a little too different? Do you have reading comprehension issues retard? I never mentioned anything about buying the cutsew for specifically Fairy-Kei purposes, just that I want my big holiday present of the year to be some sort of salopette for it’s VERSATILE nature.

The cutsew is something I splurged on impulse completely separately a few weeks ago, I didn’t buy it in anticipation/planning ahead for any particular coord and now it’s stuck in my closet without anything to match. Something fitting it would be IDEAL but not required by any means, even if I don’t have any this moment or in the near future spending money first on basic foundational items of your wardrobe like blouses/cutsews, pettis, accessories, etc is something all experienced Lolitas should do. I did that with the rest of my blouses and I eventually managed to put together coords that match with each and every one, I’ll find something for this too eventually. Just thought I should ask so I could potentially kill two birds with one stone, geez no need to have such a sandy vag anon.

This cutsew doesn't go well with Melody Toys and it's not about the colour matching. The pearl buttons, chiffon sleeves and satin cuffs would look better with one of the more 'mature' AP releases, definitely not with a casual salo.

Since you wanted the dress for fairy kei, I think it would be best to just get the pink, even if you don't pair it with that cutsew. The lavender salopette just looks too saturated and dark.

I guess it's because I've never seen anyone coord a salopette well. That sounds like an extreme statement, but I really haven't. I think they are just very hard to coord successfully, and most people don't know what to do with them.
Salopettes also don't sell well secondhand. They sit around and rot. I know that's probably not important in your consideration, but you did say you want to buy directly from AP USA, which means you'll be paying a premium for something that's pretty unpopular.

It’s possible that AP Paris or USA will get the MTO, but if you want to be sure I’d recommend using a shopping service like Tenshi, Mintkismet, Sunflowerseed, etc. It’s generally about the same price anyway!

I think the scallop bodice looks like a bib while the stripe bodice design just looks like part of the bodice. Why are you so angry, people are allowed to like different cuts. That's because they are. I got the Sugary Carnival MTO socks and they're just like this when worn. They feel really tight and uncomfortable and good luck even putting them on if you're above a size small cause they have no stretch. Proceed with caution.
I wish they'd included the shooting star or ice cream otks in the MTO instead. The milky planet socks are interchangeable with other stripey sock designs AP's released in the past year.

Idk, debating the yellow JSK and KC. I'm not really an AP OTT stan, so it's hard to decide. I didn't jump on the HC hype and ended up getting the mint JSK in the later release, which I much prefer; I jumped on the SC hype and have two sets that I don't wear; I didn't jump on the DBR rerelease, and idk how I feel about it because that was the cutest print to me but even lolitas call it juvenile. I like that Milky Planet has a lot of colors in it so it can be coorded a lot of ways, but I'm not sure if I really need it.

Perhaps don't worry about what the average consumer thinks and get DBR since you think it's the cutest print?

If you really want Milky Planet and wanted it for a long time, then purchase. Maybe even wait until the reservation almost ends to decide if you wanting it was a knee-jerk reaction or not.

>"ordering US MTO is cheaper than Japan MTO"
I feel like this is bad advice, but maybe I'm crazy?
I live in the US and lately I always use an SS for these MTOs. It comes out cheaper, even with SS fees and shipping, because the yen is still weak and AP USA doesn't even try to keep up with the exchange rate (they mostly just replace the yen sign with a dollar sign and move the decimal over two places which is extremely inaccurate). Shipping in the US for large orders is hella expensive and sometimes exceeds even services like Yamato. Worst case, I break even in cost and get my items a month sooner.
I want to support the US store, but not when I have to pay a premium. It's understandable, but also sucks that AP USA prices are so inflated by them tacking on whatever their customs fees were.

I mean, true, but they’re not going to tell people to spend their money elsewhere. With the exchange rate you’ll save money even with fees. But obviously AP USA isn’t going to tell people that because then they lose out on the order.
I can understand it costing a little more due to customs but when they are using the 100yen/$1 trick when it’s like 130yen/$1 it ends up being so much more that it’s kind of shady. I see a lot of shopping services that give prices in dollars pricing like that and it pisses me off… you know they would make sure to use the correct exchange rate if it was less than 100yen/$1.

Nta, but if you misunderstood, this Instagram story is from a random lolita, not the AP USA page or a member of staff

I don't know if she just doesn't pay attention to the exchange rate, or just said that because her page attracts more non-lolitas/normies and didn't want to take the extra time to explain all of that.
