Reposting mine, I'll owe two recs. One thing I enjoyed was how happy people were to see a character they liked. If anyone has recs of under represented characters, I'd be glad to try to cosplay them.

I'm not a novice to metalworking. Making aluminum cosplay armor shouldn't be too hard, and it would kill two birds with one stone (I'd get to practice my cosplay skills, and my armor making skills).

What's the point? Most cons ban metal armor or props of any kind. Plus it's more expensive, more uncomfortable, and heavier than something like foam.

Check out the Dark Souls armor gallery, like the Faraam Set, or the Monster Hunter one, the Espinas set for example. Sure you will find something as you like, as for the props!
But try with foam first, with cons, better be safe.

I agree that there's not enough info to give many recommendations. You could google "anime main characters with black hair school uniform" and get thousands. To narrow it down I guess, My Hero Academia uses the same male uniform for any of its characters. Todoroki is most in likeness to Akira.

And in reference to your notes: A good rule of thumb is to pick one skill to try for every costume. Assembling a full outfit (hair, makeup, costume, underlayers, props) is already so difficult that trying to tackle several new things at once makes it a monumental task which will either lead to you dropping the project or struggling the whole way through. Especially if its your first costume, you want to build your skill gradually over time. Using Kaiba as an example, you could pick making the prop from scratch (in any one of the areas you mentioned) or say, metalsmithing the thingies on his coat.

Also, the other commenters are 100% right that you need to check your convention's rules on metal. Most of the time it's not even allowed in props let alone full outfits. Additionally, that's gonna be heavy, limit your movement, loud and inconvenient as shit. I wouldn't attempt unless you're: a larper, a historical reenactor, planning only to use the costume for a photoshoot. Truthfully, not many of these costumes lend themselves well to real metal anyway. It's anime logic clothing.

Returning to my con for the first time in like 3 years later this year. I'm getting old now but still I love anime and all that and still have the passion so I want to return with a nice cosplay. Dat fucking Helios G armor idea sounds awesome, would love to see a pic. I'd say that monster hunter mix sounds like a cool idea but I'm biased towards monhan. Fox seems like the best bet since it's recognizable and you can easily copy his mannerisms.
