Fundraiser for 2 dresses, in a collaboration between LOCOCO and Fukasawa Midori. One OP is made of Bishu wool, the other (pic related) is made of velvet. Both materials are produced in Japanese factories.

https://readyfor.jp/projects/BishuLolitaFukasawaMidori

It's already fully funded, deadline for supporting the fundraiser is 30th September, 11 pm JST. There are items other than the 2 OPs, including matching hair accessories and a bag.

nah anon I think about this every time I see Milky Planet et al go for $70k. Most of these pre-2014 sweet prints have badly deteriorated compared much older lolita/jfash pieces. Partly it’s the nature of the dyes/material but mostly no one really cared to ‘preserve’ them and that’s not even a criticism t b h, they were worn and enjoyed and hung up on open clothing racks and mannequins in direct sunlight. I think they can look cool on edited instagram pics but irl they look like old bed sheets.

Seriously, what’s with the influx of disgusting newfags who expect their clothes to be completely perfect forever? It’s possible to keep your in clean and unstained condition, but thinking your clothes will stay brand new after 5-10 years is some conlita shit. If you actually wear the fashion and dress up for more than IG photos or shitty tiktoks, expect your clothing to show a little wear.

this. people have forgotten the art of the spot treatment. there are velveteen dresses with embossed appliqués that have zero whole-wash methods, and spot treatment is the only way. Circus Puppet runs into this problem consistently.

Maintaining quality is also a part of the upkeep process. repeat washing your dresses is lazy. Luxury pieces in fashion require luxury care. So many of the MM and VM pieces that have circulated for 10-15 years have maintained their quality because classic lolitas have had to figure out how to maintain the close proximity dyed florals.

This describes most lolitas I know, to be honest. I don’t trust reviews without tons of detailed pictures because anything that doesn’t rip apart during the first wear is hailed as “amazing quality”. Even diehard brandwhores often can’t articulate exactly what makes their burando higher quality than off-brand. Lolitas will claim that what sets lolita apart from other fashions is an emphasis on quality, then turn around and buy from SouffleSong or Lady Sloth.

Thank you for your continued patronage. We sincerely apologize for the fact that the mass-produced product of "flower in a vase op" that we sent to you was different from the sales sample (the gathers on the neckline and cuffs are different from the sample photo). Today, when I checked with the production factory, the cause is as follows. The handling of the gathered parts and the way of arranging after sewing are different from the first edition, so the result of this resale product is different. We deeply regret that there were inadequate points in the finish of the product, and we apologize for that.
Therefore, we will respond to the return and repair of the product as soon as possible.

*For customers who have already shipped products and wish to return or repair them, please contact us by either shop mail or Weibo (to prevent mistakes, contact us Please select only one). After confirming, please return the product you received.

When contacting us, please be sure to provide us with your order number, registered shipping name, and return address (you can also attach a screenshot of your order).

*In addition, as a result of consulting with the customer's factory that has not been shipped, we will temporarily discontinue all products currently in production and those scheduled to be produced in the future in order to correct the gathered part. As soon as the corrected product is completed, we will ship it as usual, so we are very sorry, but please wait for a while.

*In regards to the fabric and pattern, we received a question as to whether the material and pattern of the reissued product had changed compared to the first edition. Therefore, please note that the fabric produced this time is slightly different from the one used in the early days).

*Delivery after modification
Due to the large number of items ordered this time, we will inform you of the official delivery date in advance while consulting with the factory.

We apologize for any inconvenience caused to our customers, but we will do our best to produce products that will please our customers, so we appreciate your understanding. We will strive to strengthen our production and quality control in the future, so please accept our apologies. We are very sorry for this inconvenience. We appreciate your continued patronage.

I really don't think the price is crazy, especially considering the fact that it is real wool, not produced in the third world, and an extremely high quality wool. A dress like that is probably using 5 or more yards of fabric. Also the yen is down right now so the price would be cheaper for you. There are shitty polyester pieces that go for over 1k secondhand. are correct. I bought one of their pettis and an underskirt a few years ago. At first I thought the quality was fine. The petti was really voluminous and the underskirt seemed okay. Neither was as nice as brand pettis (just cheap polyester type materials, basic gathered ruffles, no lace or pintucks or any details like that.) But I liked how their stuff could be custom sized and came in a lot of colors.

So I ordered another petti and a couple more underskirts. But before I even got my second order, the petti was getting tears here and there (clearly REALLY cheap tulle and organza, never had this happen with any of my brand pieces or even cheaper bodyline and taobao crap) and the first underskirt was basically disintegrating. Loose threads everywhere, some of the seams came undone, and half the bottom hem totally tore off

I was a lot more gentle with my second petti and other underskirts when they arrived, but they haven't held up well either. I assume that MLT is using fabrics that aren't really meant for regular clothing (like maybe sheer curtain fabric or something?) bc it's bizarre fragile. And then not hemming/doing seams properly for that type of fabric.

There’s 3 sizes for shoes in japan. You will never find your exact western size. You’re supposed to pick whichever is closest, and the closest for a US 7 is a M, it just won’t fit the same way your US/Euro shoes will. A true 7 isn’t available in jp sizing because it’s between M and L, but is closer to M. Japan has wider toe boxes than western shoes, so if you have narrow feet, you can go down slightly.

>Japan has wider toe boxes than western shoes, so if you have narrow feet, you can go down slightly
Wrong, the issue isn't with the toe box being too narrow, but with the actual length of the foot. You're never supposed to wear shoes with an insole that measures exactly the same as your foot, otherwise say hello to ingrown nails and bone deformities over time. When you step on your foot, it expands lengthwise, so you need at least half a cm of wiggle room not to crush your toes. Source: ask any podologist.

This person resells Lolita, Gothic, and Punk clothes purchased at Mercari at Rakuma at a high price.
The worst ones are sold for ten times as much.
As far as I know, I've found hundreds.

When this person looks at the page of the item he purchased on Mercari, it explains the dirt and damage, but when he sells it on Rakuma, it often doesn't. , Unused, Only tried on, Worn only once, etc.

Recently, even Mercari seems to be selling it at a much higher price than the purchase price, so please be careful if you are using that as well.

Also, it seems that some people on Mercari are purchasing other people's exclusive listings.

The name is often changed, so it may be a good idea to remember the number of profiles and ratings.

It was so bad that I borrowed Baby's brand name and posted it here in the hope that many people would know about it and reduce the damage.

I hope you will remember this when purchasing.

I’ve started the process, I am slowly actually getting rid of my items. Im struggling with getting rid of my dream dress. I’ve owned it for 5 years or so and never worn it. Should I just get rid of it now or force myself to wear it once, get some pictures, and then sell it. I know the person I will be selling it to so maybe she’d let me borrow it if I ever wanted to actually wear it. It’s just really not my style anymore (lolita overall isn’t, but especially this dress).

I don't trust dry cleaners at all. I've heard too many stories of lolitas having bad experiences with dry cleaners in area alone. One story in particular stayed with me even after years. A dry cleaner irreparably damaged a dress, tried to hide it when the lolita came to pick it up, she inspected the dress right there and the dry cleaner said "it's just a cheap halloween costume for kids".

I will try almost anything to remove stains and smells on my own before I even attempt to look for a dry cleaner, it will be my last resort.

LARPers on cgl and livejournal invented this mentality. 99% of lolitas in japan see lolita as fancy weekend clothes or other luxury goods. kamikaze girls was not a documentary, but the western lolita community took it as a serious aspirational example of a lolita and not the comedic exaggeration that it is.

I don't know if it's really seen as luxury when it costs much less than normie designer stuff. But everyone treats nice clothes differently. Some people feel that the clothes cost more and should be used as much as you can so you get your money's worth. And some feel like you should keep them pristine because you spent so much money that you must preserve the value by keeping it as new as possible. Not to mention people who treat brand as speculative assets.

Everyone has different perceptions of how to really obtain the most value from their clothing.

regardless of the cost most japanese lolitas are not lifestylers, they don't wear it every day. I would love to see someone with more insight talk about all of the differences between japanese and western lolitas. However I don't think there's much of a difference between them when it comes to the topic of not wearing lolita every day but wanting to, and kind of romanticizing/fantasizing about being a lifestyle lolita.

>> No.10826776

>>10826763
I think the definition of lifestyler as someone who wears lolita only and never anything else is reductive desu. You have to wear pajamas, work uniforms, swimsuits, etc. Misako is definitely what I'd call a lifestyler, but she's a nurse and wears scrubs to work, roomwear at home, and other lolita-adjacent styles at times too. I always saw being a lifestyler as someone who is just very invested in the fashion generally, wears it, keeps up with magazines or trends, and enjoys stereotypically lolita hobbies to go along with it.

>> No.10826778

so... the new years wardrobe posting tradition is finally dead?

>> No.10826779

>>10826776
For me the definition of lifestyler really does depend on how often someone wears the fashion. Aside from that there is also lolita room wear, swim wear, sleep wear, rain coats, boots, etc that make most things possible to do whilst wearing lolita. I understand that people won't be wearing lolita whilst scrubbing their bathroom or doing really filthy chores though. You also have a good point about the fact that some jobs require uniforms. I think if someone wears lolita during any free time they may have (when they don't have to wear a uniform or do housework that will potentially damage or stain their items, or if it's crucial for them to wear something mainstream for example for an interview, wedding or funeral) they can still be a lifestyler. People who wear uniforms often change into them and out of them at work, so they wear their own clothes (whatever style that may be) to and from work.
But if someone spends a lot of time wearing other j-fashion/other styles in a situation they could have worn lolita they're not a lifestyler imo. Don't get me wrong, I am not idolizing being a lifestyler I'm just sharing my own definition/criteria for it. I love lolita but also love bumming around in mainstream room wear and don't want to wear lolita every time I shop for groceries for example. You don't have to want to be a lifestyler in order to be a lolita. I think it's completely fine if it's considered weekend wear for most lolitas.

Forgive the minor blogpost;

I started wearing lolita in my teen years, and I carefully invested my spare money into it with glee. When I moved out of my parents house I had a sizeable wardrobe to enjoy. It was easy to go on a practical no-buy when I had to put more money into basic living, rent and so on. The fashion stayed, even without new purchases. Since then I've moved up in life, and I'm starting to build up that safe and comfy lolita cash again...

My problem is that I feel completely out of practice. The wisdom I gained in my active phase is distant and vague. I'm picky when browsing second hand. No new release excites me - with this one exception. I've never bought from Royal Princess Alice before, but this print is the first to spark joy ever since I started looking to buy. But isn't this desperate? Spending just for spending's sake?

I don't know what to do, and some voice at the back of my head is whispering about cotton supremacy, which this dress is not. Where do I find that good and breathable stuff?

I'm not a gender ideologist/trans ally just because I happen to use the right pronouns in this case. It's not because I respect Connie, it's because he gave up on being a woman. Lolita is not dead, quit being ridiculous.

There are several factors that contribute to less people buying from LM. Weak yen, more people buying new or second hand from japan, energy crisis in europe so more people are buying less because they have less money to spend. The people instating no-buys because it's the beginning of the year. Ridiculous shipping prices across continents. Euros and americans who (understandably) don't want to sell to each other. As much as I dislike 99,9999% of what taobao brands put out into the world I think it would be wrong to say none of it is actual lolita.
Lolita fashion has never been as affordable, wide spread, inclusive and accessible as it is now for the niche weird fashion that it is. Different styles and brand aesthetics are popular in different eras. That's one of the reasons why certain brands close. Sweet is king and has always been king even when gothic lolita was popular. When AP and btssb close lolita will probably be dying unless equally popular brands replace them. Other styles and brand aesthetics fluctuate in popularity. There are also actual people behind these small brands and they might not want to continue a lolita business into their 50s and might not want to (or might not be able to) pick someone to continue the brand for them.
Every time some brand closed or was about to close or when the GLB stopped publishing people have yelled "lolita is dead/dying" and it has never been true, it's just ridiculous fear mongering. Forgive me if I'm fucking skeptical. I'll believe it when there are noticeably far fewer options to buy from to the point where it's difficult to shop.

affordable; second hand or taobao. As much as I do not like the styles that taobao brands typically produce it's not necessarily all cheap shitty fast fashion. There are brands that fall on the mass production end of the scale. There are also small brands do that small production runs. And just because we think the price is low doesn't mean it's low in the context of the country it's being made in. You could buy a full meal for 1 or 2$ there. You could get decently constructed cotton pieces for less than it costs to buy cotton pieces from japanese brands for that same reason. Quality of taobao brands varies as well. I like to complain and laugh about shitty taobao dresses just as much as anyone else here but it's ignorant to think that's the only option on taobao. It would not surprise me most newer lolitas don't even know that because we focus only on the ridiculously crappy stuff. Also with the downfall of quality of AP most midtier taobao isn't any worse.

wide spread; more stores/brands available to choose from both within and outside of japan. If you pay attention to what's going on in the japanese lolita sphere you will notice that new brands and sub brands occasionally pop up.

inclusive; more brands with size options, both within and outside of japan. I don't need to explain this.

accessible; easier to order from. In the past you had to get a shopping service to order from certain japanese brands.

Your joke was funny but it's also not accurate.

Stop talking about shit you don't know about. Lifestyle lolitas have existed in japan as long as lolita. Japanese culture doesn't allow for you to wear it in all situations though, so many lifestylers in japan will carry a lolita accessory like a phone or passport case to school or work unless they're a lolita shop girl. Just off the top of my head I'm thinking of the room tours in GLB back in the early 2000s there were several lifestyle lolitas featured with fully coorded rooms!! I think most lolitas in general are not lifestylers. I touched on this in another reply, but japanese culture in particular doesn't play as fast and loose with social norms, so unless you're NEET and somehow getting your bills paid you couldn't pull off wearing lolita daily. Most japanese people need to conform when they go out to jobs, school, appointments, or to family gatherings depending on the family's acceptance of the fashion.

>>10826776
Misako is a great example of a prominent japanese lifestyler, and she's been in the game since like 2002?? I'd need to check that. I was recently searching through my collection and I think that the room pictures are probably from;
-glb
-glb specials (boudoir, extra 1, extra 2, ensemble)
-kera maniax.

I'm sorry I don't have any issue numbers and page numbers.

These two girls were well known bloggers back in the day, the first is Unuu and the second is one of the “AP clones” girls, I think her name is Sae. They’re in a lot of GLB snaps.

Are brand pleather bags worth it? Specifially looking at AP's older bags, but baby/meta/IW are fine too. I worry about the pleather immediately peeling and prices are so high at the moment I don't want to spend 50+ dollars secondhand (or 200+ firsthand) for a bag that will peel right away or within only a few uses. Haven't had a brand bag in years.

>> No.10829080

>>10829043
I do not have experience with new brand bags, but I bought Meta bag from their website in 2016 and it hold up pretty well the first couple of years, I even used it as my everyday bag. But after several years it started peeling really bad, to the point of it becoming unusable.

I would say that brand bags are not worth it. Now I am stuck with using brand fabric tote bags, because I do not want to buy replicas and normie bags are too plain.

>>10829043
I have a few that started peeling (recent IW) and some that have held up (older AP). Never worth the gamble to buy the original price for though, I recommend getting them second hand in good condition.

I'm considering making some of those more structured fabric bags in the otome no sewing books instead of hunting the second hand market for more brand bags in decent condition.

Angelic Pretty's old pleather bags from the 2000s-early 2010s uses a different type of hard pleather that doesn't peel. Enamel bags don't peel either.

There are two types of pleather they use. Soft pleather covered fabric on some, whereas some of their others seem to be vinyl, or a more sturdy pu.

this bag peels pretty easily, I've had it in most colors. It always starts on the handle.

Can anyone recommend me a nice taobao brand for cotton blouses? I only find polyester ones and I don't like it. Yes, I know brand is better and everything, but I wanted something for daily wear that I wouldn't feel guilty if damaged.
