what's your most worn main piece?
what's your least favorite aspect of old school?
raschel vs cotton lace?
how long have you been wearing old schoo?

Where are all the posters at? I'll start and dump some images afterwards

>what's your most worn main piece?
Picrel, since I wear it both as an OP and a coat. It's so sturdy and comfy!
>what's your least favorite aspect of old school?
Definitely the sizing. Japanese women used to be more petite and brands less size-inclusive, so you often see 58cm waist skirts and 78cm bust OPs that would only fit a small percentage of short and slender women. Also, how popular it's gotten in recent years - the old school boom definitely affected the prices. On the other hand, there's more fresh content, new old school inspired releases, and older pieces circulating on the second hand market.
>raschel vs cotton lace?
That's like asking who my favorite child is. I love both, but I'll say cotton just because I still can't get over how Meta's cross raschel lace feels against the skin. Protip - avoid it like the plague if you have sensory issues.
>how long have you been wearing old school?
Going on 5 years now, I've never worn anything outside of old school.

A meta gobelin JSK
>what's your least favorite aspect of old school?
Also have to say echo another anon in saying sizing. I'm already underweight and very slim, yet I still struggle to fit into some of my garments comfortably. I would probably have to be downright skeletal to achieve a comfortable fit. At first I was surprised this sizing was ever common, especially because the girls look quite average-sized in old-school snaps. I realize now that even a couple inches height difference plays a huge role in fit.
>raschel vs cotton lace?
It really just depends on how it's used.
>how long have you been wearing old school?
Pretty much since I started wearing lolita. It took me a while to warm up to the aesthetic, but now it's my absolute favorite. So much of the appeal hinges on quality, which in lacking in too many brands these days. A bonus is that it's also generally most far-removed style from the comprehension of normies and tik-tok itas.

You can't properly search for things on pinterest. Whenever I search for something I get either nothing but crap, the same stuff all over again, or it starts off with good results and then it's nothing but onrelated results. It's designed that way, so it keeps you endlessly scrolling in the hopes, that you actually find what you are searching for. The only good thing about pinterest is the album function. But let's say anon has a huge archive with over 1000 images, it will be a pain to scroll through everything. And you'll have to have the link for that album and anon might private it some day, or some day pinterest drops some stupid url or security changes a la photobucket, where all those good old albums become inaccessible and will be lost forever. Tumblr is the same shit like pinterest to keep you addicted to scrolling and making it almost impossible to search for older content

Flickr would be a slighly safer choice as of now, because if you type in a keyword, you get exactly those results and it would be easier to refind a lost album. But flickr is also outdated as and we don't know about changes in the future

The best option imo would be to create a dropbox link, where everyone who is interested, can just download it. If it gets taken down some day enough copies exist, and someone else can just reupload it.

>> No.10797722

>>10797707
except on pinterest you can save any image to your own album and nothing will happen if it's deleted from the original. there's tons of images on pinterest like old magazine scans that have deleted tumblrs that are still there.

It sucks that Pinterest didn't work out for you, I've been using it as a personal archive for a while myself and found it quite useful! Although, I never use the search function and just rely on my homepage suggestions, which honestly have been spot on for me. I don't ever plan on privating or deleting my profile, however I have had a few scares with their new harmful pin detection system. All of mine have been reinstated after submitting an appeal so far, but it's still worrying. I do plan on uploading everything as a zip file and linking it here, but would also like to curate the collection somewhere online.

>> No.10799247

1: nostalgia; I first saw lolita fashion during the old school era and started wearing it back then,

2; the way it makes me feel; after it ended brands didn't commonly make anything that I felt I wanted to have anymore.
Modern lolita just doesn't make me feel the same, I can recognize it's cute but not cute enough to want to buy and wear.

3;modern lolita sometimes doesn't even register as lolita to me; I also agree with that other poster that a lot of modern lolita items just feel like a bastardization.

4; old school is more wearable and more of a street style. Lots of modern lolita seems more costumey to me, despite the fact that old school sometimes also has aprons and stuff. The materials, comfort, construction etc of old school is just more suitable for everyday wear.

agreed. With my old school stuff, whether it's pink or black, I can just say "it's a version of gothic/pastel goth" and normies with no alt fashion knowledge will accept that.
I never get accused of being an age player and I haven't encountered anyone who thought what I was wearing had something to do with a fetish or a kink as long as I didn't mention the word "lolita".

If it was something people could willingly contribute their own coords to it would be cool, but then it would run into the issue of people submitting inaccurate entries or coords that suck. Perhaps it could have a vetting system for "trusted contributors", or some sort of rating system that puts low rated entries at the bottom.

During the tumblr days, I really fell for the mori-kei type of aesthetic first. When I saw the thick cotton lace, vintage florals and slight frumpiness of oldschool classic, it just triggered that part of my brain.

Similarly, I really like military and uniform inspired stuff in more modern lolita, because it reminds me of some cute anime I used to watch when I was a teen.

Lolita just creates much more flattering and polished versions of these aesthetics.

newbies to lolita are so fucking retarded, they try to define lolita shit without even understanding basic crap.

"old school" wasn't a sub-style before and isn't now.

Each one of these brands had their own styles during those time periods, it doesn't just go blanketly into one concept. The dumb thing about all this is in harajuku they weren't just copying each other every day, these people were snapped for their own creative takes on the fashion.

I see hauls almost every week of another teen using dads credit card and speaking to some vkei guys at a con recently, I’m saddened to hear how much it’s affected the once very small and dedicated old school comm.

Has anyone managed to dig up old school unknown blogs as well? I always enjoyed looking through the photoshoots, the last I saw was a Japanese lolita posting a photoshoot in a church around 2000? if that rings a bell, there was 3 at the shoot!

I feel like black x white was ita in LiveJournal/pre-2010 days, then it was just unpopular because there was the era of OTT classic, then sweet-classic with fawn makeup, then nu-gothic revival, and also the huge rise of new-money Chinese lolitas significantly influencing what brands were successful. I'm curious where people draw the line for old school.

In my opinion, it "ended" when elaborate border prints started to outweigh old school style releases. I think picrel (2006) was the beginning of the end. Baby released their little red riding hood border print this year too. I still consider these more intricate border prints old school, but in the years following they evolved so much. Almost every other release on this year from AP (and baby too) was a solid fabric, allover print that anyone could buy (plaid or gobelin) or embroidery/applique releases.

In 2007 we got Toy Parade, Rose Toilette and Country of Sweets. All elaborate border prints more akin to releases we'd expect to see today. AP was still making a lot of old school style JSKs that year, in fact it was mostly that style still.

In 2008 these elaborate prints, and mesh embroidery lace releases outweighed classic design elements. However there were a few dresses released that year that still share that same old school styling. Baby and Aatp have continued to release old school style JSKs here and there forever. The styling never left us or died out completely, but it was largely considered ita until 2018.

>Baby and Aatp have continued to release old school style JSKs here and there forever. The styling never left us or died out completely, but it was largely considered ita until 2018.
i completely disagree with this part. it's not specific elements that are ita, but them together. there are still things in old school that are ita for old school that have never existed in modern designs (think when zoomers call shit proto lolita and it's just fugly y2k shit and a jsk) and so some elements of old school are ita compared to 2010s style. hell, you can even argue some things from 2010s is ita now even though the style isn't what most of us like. many of us often forget that despite lolita being an alt fashion, it still changes with the times and evolves based around both other alt fashions and trends in general. but i feel like there will always permanently be elements in lolita that were from old school.

>> No.10819716

>>10819713
Honestly i think ita and non-ita old school comes down to styling and quality. What was considered ita old school back in the day was black and white mostly because some indie brands would try to recreate style elements, but the lace was so terrible it looked like hot garbage. Black and white became ita by association. Also, the details of these older dresses didn't come out as well on older photos so there was a misinterpretation by some westerners as to what it really looked like up close. Like, no one thinks Momoko looks ita.

Old indie brands that were ita were like, Momo's or Rakuen

Ok i want to expand on myself here. I think the lack of popularity of classic (older) styles was due to people thinking they were boring and would be around forever, or that new releases would be better. I honestly think that due to the designs becoming a bit cheaper there's a group of people who glom onto the older styles, because they seem less common and more exclusive as well as reliably well made. It's a really interesting time in the fashion.

Kuniko Kato is rereleasing (updating?) the Meta Organdy Babydoll OP.

I wish I liked this, or any of Kato's Meta design reimaginings. It would be nice to support her, but Physical Drop stuff just doesn't do it for me. It's like downgraded Meta imo

This. Most of her work looks like cheap childrens bedsheets cobbled into a dress. I can’t bring myself to buy any Physical Drop releases.

I would be all over it if she didn't change the lace and collar. Without the lace it looks more jellyfish than antique doll.

I think her more simple dresses look nice I wish she'd do more black and white designs because I'm not a huge fan of her prints. This rerelease/update is over the top though, almost hits the mark but just barely too far off.

You just hit the nail on the head. I couldn't figure out why I didn't like this but like the original and it's the lack of lace.

It frustrates me so much when brand do a "rerelease" and it's updated. I like the original, I don't want an update

The skirt is also much longer than on the original, like 20 cms about. As a tall chan, the original would have made me look like a gigantic baby so no dice anyway, but the exaggerated silly proportions of super short skirt + flouncy long bloomers was so iconic. This one would just be a normal length lolita dress on me.

How does everyone feel about Dreamy Pebble copying La Luice?

>> No.10821560

>>10821537
Even though it's not an exact replica, I think it's shitty. La Luice isn't a dead brand with unattainable items - they still produce their rabbit bags, so it's doubly shitty to sell an obvious copy of their product while theirs is still on the market. They could've easily created a more original design and still had people buying them.
