Nta and it is but...I'm so close to giving in to the hype. It's in the same vein as Melty Cream Donuts, Dream Sky, or other prints that have good replicas out in the world where I am not in love with the print but if I ever want to own it I need to buy it direct from AP because I'm terrified of accidentally paying full price for a replica and then reselling it unknowingly.

It is over hyped but clearly re-releasing it every year is working for AP.

Not all of their fabric is the same. As someone who has done years of book and paper making, my understanding is that traditional Japanese paper is made with longer fibers than some modern western paper that is made from shorter fibered pulps like cotton rag and wood. The texture of washi in particular is light but strong.

Given that, it’s possible some of their fabrics are similar on a surface level to washi paper despite being woven cotton. I do think their thin and light textured cotton that’s commonly used on their prints could have similarities to washi or other traditional textured Japanese papers if you examined it closely. I don’t know if this is intentional though.

This only applies to plant based paper btw, not vellum.

That said with the number of brazen gross sissies apparently increasing, they should have a “no men” rule, AP is a women’s clothing brand that doesn’t carry any sort of menswear. But of course that will never happen.

I’m not saying you have to quit wearing lolita at a certain age but you can pick prints that are more mature and coordinate them in a more demure way. God forbid a 50 year old dude wear solids instead of a dress covered in candy.

Nonnie idk if you haven't heard but sissies LOVE Gothic and old school sweet and Milano tier solids in both pastels and dark colors. I've been around long enough to see the pics they'd steal most for their fetish shit and the "lolita" inspired regretsy dresses they sell and buy. Female age players are likelier to be into pastel toy prints and shit for their gross kink shit from the creeps I've seen online.

Lolita has been around long enough that no one thinks you have to change how you dress at a certain age anymore because the once young women who pioneered the fashion are adults now and many still love it. Misako is 40 and that other guy is not that far off in age, no one would bat an eye seeing Misako in Sugary Carnival. She even modeled the Nakayoshi Bunny sample recently.

As far as physical appearance goes I'd rather have a well dressed ugly old man than a poorly dressed ugly young girl at my table during a tea party honestly.

If we want to operate with reason and assume some men out there also just like cute things like women, then there's no reason to assume a non ita male is a predator just because he wears sweet. That's like calling all women in lolita adult babies for liking cute shit.

The dude wearing a JSK as a skirt and nodmie ugly clothes can fuck off but it does no good to be against someone who dresses well while accepting overt itas purely because of gender and/or age. Mana is an old man and definitely weird/eccentric. Is he larping as a woman when he does odd things like have female assistants speak for him when he's in lolita?

I know there's a difference. Someone tried to claim older women wearing sweet is just as bad as a man because it would supposedly be shocking and I pointed out that it's untrue using Misako as an example of one of many older older who wear sweet themes in lolita still.

If I could have my way I'd want the entire lolita community to be 18+ or 21+ and women and well dressed. But obviously when discussing AP policy we should look at what is feasible. Saying no men doesn't work because outside of Japan that won't fly so restricting it at least to reasonably dressed men/brolitas or oujis is at least an enforceable standard because while brand itas exist if you require a full brand coord it's less likely the low effort itas who are also the sissies will show up. Clearly the main piece only rule didn't weed out itas well enough.

If you show most people who are not into lolita fashion an ad from the GLB with mana modeling moitie dresses they would guess he's a woman.

Any guy who looks very masculine who makes no attempt to pass whilst in lolita fashion will always be highly suspicious to most lolitas myself included. Their age doesn't matter.
It doesn't matter if they dress well, still suspicious.
French guy has made some very questionable coords in the past (posted on btb), as recent as last year.
His wig looks horrible in the paris AP coord so he's not trying that hard either.
Anyone with money can buy a full coord that goes together by simply buying all of the stuff from the same ad, no creativity needed.
That doesn't mean the guys that "dress well" aren't degenerates who into the fashion for the wrong reason(s).

We've (as a community) learned over the last 22 or so years that some predators have enough money and enough sense to copy brand ads so they dress well, they don't always look like stereotypical sissies with a sissy dress sense.

Creativity is not relevant to wearing a lolita coord. Wearing a fullset is fine. We're all consoomers anyway.

I'd argue the guy is making an attempt to pass but just can't and unless he got surgery on his face and entre body he never will. His only questionable coord that really set gulls off beyond him being old and ugly was a "casual" coord he did with Neon Star Diner skirt I think. It gave off uncanny age play vibes on him but again on a woman no one would have bat an eye. I don't know this dude or like him and would rather he not wear lolita desu but as far as AP weeding out people at events the only way to get rid of him would be to explicitly ban men which isn't likely at their stores in the west.

Mana only looks like a woman to normies that aren't Asian and only see his blurred to shit face. He's dressed in a feminine way for sure but it's clearly the dress, hair, and makeup that makes normkes assume he is a woman. He's quite tall and masculine otherwise.

I'm from europe. Most of my local com isn't overweight. I definitely get the impression that the % of people with restrictive eds (like AN) is higher in the lolita community than it is in the general population.

AN isn't the only ed out there and you don't need to be dangerously thin to have a restrictive ed. You don't need to have a bmi of 16 to have severe effects from AN. Some people die from BN, ednos and atypical AN at bmis that are in the normal range.

Being overweight or obese can also be a sign of disordered eating.
Some fat people engage in binging, emotional eating and stress eating. That's not normal or healthy and it's likely such a person would meet diagnostic criteria for Binge Eating Disorder, BN (if they purge) or ednos.

However I do not think every fat person has an ed. For most fat people it's lifestyle related, not ed or illness related. That's what the statistics say and I agree.

The french guy did an idol coord and an ita coord with cat ears iirc. Both gave of red flags. I do not need to see a middle aged man's thighs thankyouverymuch
If this is that guy attempting to pass he needs to attempt harder. Female impersonators do a better job just with hair and makeup.

"kek yes you fucking do, it's literally part of the diagnosis"
There are more restrictive eds than just AN.
BN is also a restrictive ed because the purging behavior is an attempt to limit calorie absorption.
Ednos (now called osfed) usually contains restrictive behavior.
Atypical AN always includes restriction.

The only ed that has a weight criteria is AN, the weight criteria is currently "Restriction of energy intake relative to requirements leading to a significantly low body weight in the context of age, sex, developmental trajectory, and physical health."
It is up to the dr to decide what that means for the patient. This means that a patient can be diagnosed with AN at a bmi of 19 if that bmi is significantly low bodyweight for them, in the context of what's healthy for their body.
Granted most normal bmi patients would be diagnosed with atypical AN or ednos if all criteria for AN are met except for the weight criteria. People with atypical AN have lost a significant amount of weight, they just haven't met the weight criteria at the moment of diagnosis yet.
This is usually true for ednos as well.

"your health is only at risk if you're actually losing weight, "
Both malnutrition and being underweight can kill people.
If we ignore suicide for now most people that die because of BN complications die because of heart problems as a result of mineral deficiencies. This can happen even if they maintain a normal bmi.
It's their behavior that leads to these issues, not their weight.
Binging and purging can also kill people when they rupture their GI tract.
People with BN, atypical AN, ednos and AN can all die because of organ failure as a result of malnutrition.

Poor people who are underweight because they don't have access to adequate nutrition aren't trying to lose weight (most of the time), and they will eat food when the opportunity presents itself. This is very different from people with eds because eds are self destructive mental disorders.

Malnutrition is extremely hard to die from in a first world country, if you are eating enough food to be a healthy weight. I'm not going to spoonfeed you a load of text about mortality statistics and health risks associated with the different types of eds. You can figure it out yourself by reading relevant pages on https://scienceofeds.org/

People with restrictive eds typically restrict calories and food types which leads to malnutrition. If they keep this up long enough without intervention it will lead to serious health risks and eventually death.
They also typically do fringe diets that reduce protein and/or fat intake to almost zero. This will eventually kill you even if you eat TDEE calories.
If you think people with eds generally have enough sense to care about having a balanced diet you are dead wrong hahahaha.
And even if they do it's fear that will keep them from eating anything outside of their continuously decreasing list of safe foods.

I forgot how ignorant regular people are about eds, thanks for the laugh.
There is no specific ed that involves eating the same thing every meal, they all tend to suffer from this to some extent.

Some of them die or get hospitalized before they reach underweight bmi though.

Me too, Grosgrain isn’t great but a little more tolerable. I’m slowly selling off all my older dresses in viyella because I don’t like how they feel.

Though after being an AP stan for so many years, it’s finally gotten to the point where I’ve given up on buying from them. Everything lately had cheap feeling materials and/or weird fit issues in general. Even the accessories.

>Though after being an AP stan for so many years, it’s finally gotten to the point where I’ve given up on buying from them
Are you me?
In general I've only been buying the accessories. Then I stopped buying OTKs because of the zero stretch issue. Even the necklaces got weirdly longer, so they hang too low on the bodice of most dresses? (I swear I'm going to add my own jump rings and lobster clasp to wear them shorter).
I still call myself an AP whore, but I don't know how true that is anymore when I'm fighting for decade old dresses secondhand and hardly ever participate in new releases (minus MTOs)
I even gave nu AP a chance - bought a new blouse, hated it. Bought a new plush bag, hated it. Saw dresses IRL, hated it. And now even the MTOs are having quality issues. AP might legitimately be the reason I quit the fashion (if I ever do).

The harder pleather was used in the early 2000’s until about 2008-2009ish. I don’t remember exactly when they changed it. It’s shinier and thicker but it holds up super well. I have bags that are in like new condition even after being used for years. I refuse to buy any bags from AP that aren’t made out of this after seeing how the new ones flake. I think that they might have stopped manufacturing this kind of pleather or something because they changed the materials for bags long before the rest of their quality went to shit.
I have heard that the glitter pleather bags hold up, which makes sense since it has the similar shiny look and smooth texture.

Except you can tell AP isn't drowning in MTOs.
They put the HL MTO back up at the beginning of this week, practically begging people to order out of FOMO. If they were struggling to provide MTOs, they'd probably be a little bit more careful about which ones to release to bring in money, and HL for the 5th or whatever time is the stupidest pick.
I agree there can't be infinite MTOs, but they could definitely do more. The only reason they had any trouble was Shanghai shutting down for 1+ month.

>> No.10793764

>>10793542
I don’t think they have the logistics to have too many MTOs in production at once. It seems like it’s generally 3-5 at once with 2-3 months between them. I think this is to make sure they don’t flood the stores with dresses waiting to get picked up and not getting too many in at once that need to be shipped. If things were running more smoothly as far as production and shipping, it would probably be possible for a few more, but with the supply chain and shipping backed up all over the world, it causes delays and throws off the whole schedule.
I agree that they’d be better off picking different dresses for MTOs. I think they expected Holy Lantern to sell a lot because it sold well before, but to a degree the market is flooded with it. Was Sugary Carnival cotton? It seems like they are hesitant to release prints on cotton, maybe they are limited in how much they can get printed, or they don’t want to do it because it’s more expensive and they don’t want to raise the prices, since I’m sure most people would be fine paying more for cotton. Did Japanese and Chinese lolitas complain about Honey Cake being poly for the MTO? If that’s the case, I can see them thinking they need to use cotton for rereleases of cotton dresses (as they should). I’m trying to rationalize why they aren’t picking old and popular prints that would sell more dresses than something that’s been released 5 times already.

Cotton print rereleases come up fewer times per year and you will rarely see the same cotton print get yearly rereleases aside from Melody Toys for some reason. I was at Haenuli's panel at Tekko. People were asking about her releasing items in cotton rather than poly. Here's a few things she brought up. Keep in mind, she's much smaller as an indie brand. She's not going to have the same overhead as AP.

- Cotton requires a LOT of waste to get it printed. From growing the cotton, to producing it, dying and adding a custom print. It's a difficult and wasteful process. This adds a lot to cost. It might disintigrate over time rather than release plastic fibers. But it's still wasteful (as well as expensive.)

- Poly is much easier to print on, requires less waste and resources, and therefore costs much less. Again, still made of plastic. But if you have a high demand for an item, poly is going to be a more cost-effective choice as it can be produced quickly and cheaply.

This is probably why AP keeps pumping out the chiffon re-releases and does cottom much less frequently. It's just more reliable from a business perspective.

Either way, you're going to get waste and pollution no matter what material. But I feel better overall about buying lolita rather than normie fast fashion. It's going to last longer. It is constructed with more care. I'm not washing it as frequently (layering so it doesn't get dirty).

Imagine saying this in an AP thread, their quality control in particular conoared to other brands has gone downhill recently

>>10794163
>I'm not washing it as frequently
The entire planet is on fire if you're wearing lolita anywhere but the arctic your dead skin and sweat is getting on your clothes nonny. Wash your fucking clothes before AP releases another laundry print.

>your dead skin and sweat is getting on your clothes
This, please wash your clothes. The sweat and dead skin builds up and yellows your clothes slowly over time. You won’t see it right away and might think it’s fine, but check back months later and your seemingly clean clothes will have yellowed. I learned my lesson about this when I was younger and was my clothes after every wear now.

Nta but she looks clean and normal. She didn't take a selfie she was filming how dumb the bonnet looks with no structure. She's not done up because it was a demonstration not a real coord shot I'm assuming.

The girl in the screenshot isn't even the person who posted her apparently. I saw the IG story shared by someone else before it even appeared itt.
