These aren’t bad, they’re just Chinese factory costumes, which rarely look good unless they’re tailored to the wearer and altered to fix crappy parts. The people are just ugly, which does not make a cosplay “bad”.
There really isn’t much “bad cosplay” these days because people no longer try to make things themselves unless they already know how. People just buy costumes from China. They’re generally not great, but not bad either. Gone are the days of unhemmed hot glue disasters.

Some of it is probably coming from the fact some people posting these haven't actually ever gone to a con and have only really paid attention to costhots and the truly exceptional cosplay photos that naturally get the most attention online. So when they see a mass produced mediocre cosplay on a below average person, for them, that is a massive step-down from the "average" quality they've seen. Whereas for congoers, this is all day every day and absolutely nothing of note.

You'd have to fix so much on this it's not even funny. Yes, they have all the parts of the costumes but they still look unfinished. The costumes clearly don't fit very well, especially the Jean cosplayer. Neither of them bothered to trim the bangs on their wigs either or do any styling beyond taking the wigs and clothes out of the package. Makeup would also help significantly, since both look like they're just wearing normal makeup despite having elaborate costumes.

There are plenty of fantastic cosplayers at cons who bother to style their wigs and make sure their costumes fit. They're not hard to find at all.

DR is basically new homestuck. it's full of edgy and retarded characters meant to be ironic or jokes and the fans relate to them unironically. that should really clue you in on the type of people who like it and why they want to stand out in an edgy and retarded way. originally DR was meant to parody other works in the genre poking fun at archetypes and the like, but people took it seriously and the "it's literally me" types ruined it, much like homestuck, and the author basically killed the series on purpose.
