You know how it is.

Here goes: My wardrobe and main bedroom are nothing too special but to non-lolitas and zoomers it's the best thing to exist since sliced bread and i love subtly showing off about it on TikTok and Instagram and reading comments that wish they were me. It makes me feel better about myself especially the comments saying they wish they could fit into it or wishing they were me.

More reason to not give him access to your clothes. I'm sure you don't want your little brother's jizz all over your brand. Let's not pretend like that kind of thing is normal to begin with.

I've heard too many stories of men with a cross dressing fetish (often pretending to be trans women to the outside world), who say their first memories of "how they knew" was some variation of them putting on a female family member's clothes when they were early to mid teens, and getting a boner/masturbating in it.

This is exactly how AGP/sissy/crossdressing fetish starts. Don't encourage it.

You better lock up your clothes.

I also didn't like the name, Alice and the Pirates. And I just genuinely don't like their aesthetic or most of their releases. I did buy a jsk one time from them but regretted it and never again. After hanging out with other lolitas for a few years, I think I’m going back to being a lonelita forever. Save for a few online lolita friends I’ve met, I just have nothing in common with anyone aside from the clothes. I’ve been a near daily lolita for years and find no joy going out in a group of lolitas. I also find the things people say to be abjectly annoying/new. Things like, making a big deal about “brand” (“I wouldn’t let ~my brand~ touch that park bench!” Coming from someone with a wardrobe full of brand, just do your laundry. Stuff like that.), talking about insignificant drama even though we’re all adults, not knowing basic things about the fashion. Those all kind of get my goat, on top of the other reasons I mentioned. I sound mean, but I’m also really sad about it because I thought I wanted lolita friends. Maybe I still do, and I’m just picky. But online lolita “culture” has made a lot of people completely insufferable to me.

for what it’s worth, I do agree that it’s best not to plaster it everywhere from the getgo especially on dating apps. Same boat as you—I’ve dated many men (I know I know, whore, whatever), but the ones who were *into* me wearing lolita always put me off and it ended up not working because they fetishized me for being “cute” “small” “Asian” “doll like” and all that nastiness.

When I started taking a different approach, which was just letting the man get to know me first and then being like “by the way, I wear these clothes and they make me happy!” It worked out. Because at that point, even though he’s not the biggest lolita fan, he loves me and cares about me and what’s me to wear what makes me happy. and that’s what really matters to me.

in the end, there is no “right” way to go about it. but my personal preference is for a man to support my passions, not because he’s attracted to them but because he loves me for me. wishing all nonnas in their quest for love. but if you end up meeting a bunch of fetishists, give the alternative approach a try.

da but I only really care if it's a size that AP actually makes. If you can regularly buy your size+color from AP then you're just being cheap or lazy buying it from a replica maker.

Other brands make LLL size shoes but AP rarely even offers LL size shoe releases, so it's on their head of all those potential customers go elsewhere to get the same thing. And on the rare occasions they do offer LL teaparties, they sell out basically instantly bc they're in high demand. AP has never kept up with the demand for an essential item type so ofc customers have normalized wearing replicas.

imo design replicas are distasteful but AP brought it on themselves.

The other option would be to buy non-replica shoes from places like bodyline, dreamV and taobao. But these designs tend to be incredibly boring and basic with some exceptions here and there.
On the other hand we've seen so many tea party shoes those have become boring and basic as well.
It's not just a choice between brand shoes and sneakers.

Personal opinion; replica shoes is the only replica thing I'm partially okay with, replica everything else is bad in my book.
My reasons for being partially okay about replica shoes is the sizing issue and the fact that brand shoes are a rip off.
Also shoes wear out sooner than other items imo, so it would be hard to find long discontinued shoes on the secondhand market still in reasonable condition. If you like something that btssb used to make and stopped making in the mid 2000's you're pretty much fucked without replica shoes.

Shops with original designs carrying extended sizing would still be better than replica shoes imo. But then you're stuck with, usually, contemporary styles which obviously don't appeal to everyone.

I've got conflicting feelings about the whole thing - part of me thinks I should've gone down that road, part wishes things had stayed as they were, and part thinks maybe I was just reading things wrong (though friends privy to more details agreed with my assessment). Your case is kinda hard too, I can see arguments either way there as well. Obviously there are people who fetishize it and you don't want to attract them, but on the other hand I think a lot of guys who aren't really aware of it will get the wrong idea when they find out down the line, and there are definitely dudes out there who appreciate it in a non-sexual way as well and it sort of feels like a shame to miss out on that, at least in my mind. I've had friends who were full-time lolitas married to guys who didn't like it at all and it didn't result in very happy relationships from what I saw.

i think everyone should be completely honest from the get go about their hobbies, no matter how weird, men and women. that's why i keep trying to convince my creepy cousin to itasha his car with his underage anime waifu, just so women know what they're getting into. i'd rather block creeps from the get go than find out someone i was into is a creep or that it's a big deal breaker for them.

>> No.10787692

>>10787691
Yeah that's generally the way I've been leaning as well. If nothing else, I think trying to hide who I am is stupid because I'm not gonna be happy with some normie who'd be turned off by it anyway. On the other hand, though, it's easy for people to get the wrong idea from it, thinking it means I'm some no-life weirdo with no social skills or something, or that it's a weird sexual thing, and also attracts people who are exactly those things.
I wish there were some sort of dating site or something that was only relatively normal, decently well-adjusted people who just happen to have really nerdy hobbies. I often feel like I'm stuck in this weird middle ground between turboautists on one side and normies on the other. It used to work out great for me since I was usually the most socially competent person in the room but nowadays cons are infested with actual normies who make me look like an autist loser in comparison, even if I'm equally far ahead of the actual autists.

well, i feel like filtering them out immediately is the best idea. because while it's true they may be more or less likely to interact with you, it's not as if they're suddenly not going to interact with you just because you didn't disclose it. especially men on dating sites/apps, they will message you regardless. posting lolita or cosplay vets them from the beginning. if they're too close minded not to interact with you, they won't be worth it later anyway. and if they're a disgusting creep, they will let you know from the get go because they'll think you're into it, so you can immediately get rid of them. it's wasting your time otherwise.

Yeah, I guess it's probably true that you can identify them pretty quickly and block them. I'm just somebody who has a hard time getting those kinds of awkward, uncomfortable situations out of my head, honestly it's a big part of why I've been single way longer than I really should have.

i think the real issue is finding someone who actually likes it, cosplay or lolita/jfash. nerds who are into it are more likely to have weird fetishes and normies who are accepting but don't like it at all are more likely to be boring as fuck, or just gritting their teeth because they find you attractive. it's a hard balancing act i think.

I'm going to guess you're relatively new to the fashion? Don't get fomo from new releases. They're all garbage. Especially if you're buying AP. The new releases are trash - its the re-releases that are getting to me (a lot of them have been on my dream list since before I started). I also found 2 high priority dresses 2 months ago and they never pop up secondhand so I had massive fomo I'd never see them again. I saw the photos from Paris and there's nothing I'm interested in fortunately. I'm starting a summer job soon so hopefully I should be able to reduce it before classes, but yeah I really need to get a hold of myself before I graduate. Its something I'm slowly trying to work away from, to jump and just get it if its something I genuinely love as a piece, but not yet. Plus, I still am trying to lose the weight first; shouldn't really get a lot of not-basic pieces if I don't/can't fit in them in the first place.

>> No.10787894

I think it helps to realize that lolita is not a cheap hobby even if you get things second hand.
You can get some nice skirts with fully elasticated waistbands so they'll still fit if you lose weight, same for bloomers and petticoats.
If you don't dislike fully shirred dresses you can go that route as well.
With blouses you're better off just buying something simple that will fit as you are now and taking it in if you've achieved your weight goal and have managed to keep your weight at that goal. There's some adjustments you can make without cutting off fabric, that way the adjustment can be reversible.

I think sewing/alterations and learning how to properly clean lolita pieces are really helpful skills for wearing lolita on a lower budget.

If you decide to cut down on the cost to an extreme, without sacrificing style, I recommend still buying lolita shoes and lolita bags because you can't make those yourself (unless you make tote bags or can do leatherworking).
And then you can make everything else yourself and still look decent IF you actually learn how to sew well and have the eye for it.

The problem with the sewing groups is that 95% of the posts are from people who don't have the eye for lolita and/or can't sew very well. So people think handmade lolita is shit.

I know learning how to sew is time consuming, and you will need a sewing machine and probably a serger too but having the skill CAN save you money.

>>10787888
I wouldn't count on AP doing it. And even if they did japanese brands that offer plus sizes have a tendency to not make them longer as they get wider. So if AP decided to offer extended sizes they would actually need to make their bigger stuff longer.

Lifestyle lolitas have become increasingly rare imo, probably because of two things;
-the pandemic
-the fashion moving away from more wearable designs/fabrics

>> No.10788307

>>10788293
Prints don't tend to fade as quickly on synthetics, and synthetics are probably a lot cheaper to produce.

I think it all comes down to money in the end.
Producers want a cheaper to manufacture product that will last a long time, but then will sacrifice comfort to do so.

There are other pros to synth fabrics of course but people who actually like wearing lolita fairly regularly they all prefer breathable fabrics.

>> No.10788317

There are nice synthetics, but very many of APs synthetics are not nice feeling or look badly and the colors come out strange. >> No.10788322

>>10788317
Definitely there are some synthetics that don't have many of the issues the cheaper ones have, but in the end it's still synthetic and isn't going to give the same comfort as cotton does.

one small annoyance of mine is that since the rise of synthetics in lolita fashion there are also a lot more different shades of the same color. It used to be easier to combine brand A's hair accessory in pink with brand B's dress in pink.
But now? A gazillion different pinks.

>> No.10788326

Agreed on the color thing. my confession is I rarely wear headbows. I know it's irrational as normies think I'm weird either way but wearing a giant bow or headdress on my head really makes me feel like a dork in a costume. I only wear them at meets or when I plan on taking coord pics

Good going! I'm also losing weight, down 25 lb from my highest weight (Although the last 5 were due to COVID, I expect the progress will slow down). I have about 15 lb more to go before I'm satisfied. GL!

It crossed my mind.
My mom was friends with another woman who had a daughter and a son. My mom started bringing us over to this woman's house when I was 8 and my brother and I became friends with her kids.
Years later when we were teens we were still friends with them but I got this really weird vibe as it seemed the brother was constantly perving on his older sister and making stupid jokes about her.
The sister told me her brother had taken her underwear more than once.

I crave cosplay attention and I get green with envy when I see people with massive follower counts that don't sew their costumes or make their wigs have massive counts. I justify it to myself as "they didn't put the effort in, what are they showing off?" Shit's honestly gatekeeping but idc, there's too many people in the field that just treat it as halloween and just do FOTM chars.

i've been thinking hard about transitioning to just sewing plain garments because it seems a lot more rewarding, but the anime/fantasy outfits are so much more interesting than actual menswear. That, and figuring out some retarded design and making a good real life copy feels insanely rewarding. seriously, why the fuck are all menswear a variation of collar button downs, tshirts, and blazers?

Just broke up with a toxic cheating ex who got off by me wearing lolita and would force me to wear lolita while wearing sex. (Never allowed that, shit is expensive)Found out later he forced his ex to wear children's clothes and would buy her lolita if she lost weight. Glad it's over but I have sense of shame not breaking it off sooner.

If this is a guy who runs in lolita circles you should put him on blast. At least tell all of your friends and anyone in your local com who will listen.
It's going to be really awkward if he manages to date another lolita.

>> No.10790844

It's already awkward because my ex's sibling is in the same com so I'm just going to tell only my lolita friends. Keep them out of it. He goes after girls who wear lolita ( or makes them wear it) and who are short. So if anyone asks how tall are you or says only likes you because you're short please run. He also has my 1000 dollar package of lolita brand and he hasn't responded at all for weeks now on how he's going to forward it to me. I'm scared he's gotten rid of it.

I hope you get your package anon.
Is there a possibility you can get to his place with some friends (as backup) when your ex is home to get your package?
If he says he already sent it then get the tracking number and check it on the spot.

He makes my creeper alarm go off.
I used to be prime neckbeard bait (I realized it when I was mid twenties) and my first bf (I was 16) was into me because I looked very young for my age. I'm also short and had a baby face until my mid thirties. He would say that I was cute and his ideal gf. I'm not pretty though, I just looked underdeveloped.
I found CP on his computer.
He was also much older than me. Pretty sure he was 25 or 26 when we started dating.

UTKs look great sometimes when you're wearing a shorter dress but trying not to look like a zettai ryouiki skank. Showing the knees somehow makes it look a little more modest than thigh-highs

>> No.10791933

>>10791897

All of my dresses and skirts are knee length so you wouldn't see any of the top lace if I wore OTKs. I only have bloomers that are almost knee length so those would also cover OTKs. That's why I usually don't wear OTKs.

Most people's upper legs are a lot more squishy than their lower legs so most of the time you would see a dent where the OTKs end and the thigh fat begins even on slim people. Dent may not be the right word for it, so maybe "slight OTK muffin top"? It happens when the top of the sock is tighter than the sock material below it.
Can be severe on fat people but still present on slim people. I prefer a smooth line, I know it's an unreasonable nitpick and unreasonable expectation to make of OTK wearers but still.
