Nah, she was actually really prudish and very conservative with her cosplays. The vast majority was full-coverage stuff, armor, long dresses, jacket and pants military uniforms, etc., and even when she did stuff with a skirt that just showed a bit of leg or thigh she'd always wear opaque dance tights. Basically the cosplay fame fucked her up. She was an insecure and very repressed person who was probably BPD on top of it, and she actually really fucking hated the attention her newfound cosplay fame got her (especially when it was sexual in nature), but at the same time she was also hyper-competitive and basically addicted to watching follower numbers etc. go up so she almost compulsively kept doing the things that put her in a deeply stressful and uncomfortable situation, and the worse it got the more of it she took out on me, to the point that it turned into a textbook abusive relationship. I thought it was somehow my fault for a long time and kept trying to fix myself hoping it'd fix her, but eventually I had to listen to my friends (and many of hers as well, even her mom!) and admit that there was nothing I could do and my only real choice to maintain sanity was to dump her.

I guess it's just convenient for them, and some probably meet through photoshoots or whatever, but that's pretty rare in my experience. My case was a bit weird because I was cosplaying when we met but I had a real life photography career and it just made sense to start doing cosplay one I was dating another cosplayer worth taking pics of.

I'm pretty much completely retired from cosplay photography now. If one of my old cosplayer friends asks me to do a shoot for them I'll consider it, but otherwise I don't even bring camera gear to cons anymore, and I certainly don't advertise my services or anything - I briefly tried that after the breakup and did some shoots but the experience is completely different as a single guy photographer and I really didn't enjoy it.

I just came back from a big comic con in my country.
Not sure how it is elsewhere in the world but at least here most girls in costume are never alone. Most often they're with their husbands,boyfriends, or some gay friend they got to shoo away people trying to get themselves a girl.

Plus, it's all about the mindset. These written signs are often prohibited or strongly not recommended by the conventions here, so, there isn't much you can do to try and get yourself a girl.

Randomly approaching people with obvious intent is hard. People will talk a big game and claim otherwise, but guys who can go up to a group of girls solo and manage to start something without seeming creepy or desperate are the minority. The real thing is to find more natural opportunities to talk to people, your "neighbors" waiting in line for something or other people standing next to you while waiting for drinks at Starbucks or whatever, maybe somebody looking at merch from a series you like in a dealer's hall booth, or whatever. Smoking areas are often good too, I almost always end up chatting with people and often end up trading social media or whatever when I go out for a cig during cons. (Which, incidentally, are the only time I really smoke.) Cosplay gatherings can also be good, I met my ex at one where we were both cosplaying characters from the same series and then a bunch of people from the gathering decided to go to lunch together and I hit it off with her there. Room parties can also obviously be good places to meet people, but lately it seems like they're less common and have been replaced by lobby/pool deck takeovers, where it's much harder to approach people.

All that said, it's hard for me to turn any of that stuff into getting laid. A lot of the time I just end up having a good time hanging out with people and don't want to fuck it up by making it awkward, and when I do get info I end up not really talking to them much afterwards. I've got pretty bad anxiety about sex and relationships for a variety of reasons though so other people may have a much easier time going from where I can get to where I wish I were.

When I look at a Cosplayer through the Viewfinder of my camera, I treat her as an object to portrait. I don't pick ugly ones to begin with but I also don't care about the tightness of their outfits or how much they skin they show. I'm just entirely focused on the photography itself.

Outside of the actual photoshoot at the Con I treat them respectfully, ask if it's okay to take their photo, ask if it's okay to upload it to social media, give them a business card with my socials so they see I'm legitimately caring about their rights as the photographed person as well as my own rights of the photo itself.
