I get why people hate fb. I was ready to leave fb because of all the ads and sponsored posts gumming up everything lately. Then I got a special fb browser extension that blocks (nearly) all ads and sponsored content and things are pleasant once again.

I'm in my local comm on fb and on discord. The fb comm has nearly died in the last 6 months or so, probably because a lot of members have gone to discord and abandoned fb.
The only discord server I'm in is my local comm server.

As for other platforms it seems to me discord is the most lively place for my local comm right now. The LJ comm is dead. There was once a regular forum, that's also dead.
I don't think dreamwidth is the future for my local comm either.
What else could we use for an online comm?

I really miss "concrit culture" for a lack of better term. In a lot of online places, including my local comm discord, there are not many people requesting concrit and there are even less people giving it.
I'm also in a bunch of groups where allowing concrit is the default and you have to specify if you don't want it, but even in those places I rarely see people giving concrit.

I also miss old fashioned forums. They were just so neat and organized.

Thankful for it since I hate FB but I recognize it makes groups more difficult to find and answers/advice harder to search for for newbies.

Nothing. I'm only in my comm's seriously and the others only to kek at the newfags and wokelitas. The larger servers have the same issues as FB groups, lack of vetting, no deep discussion or original thought, bad advice, power trips, etc. The smaller ones are a little better but more drama happens behind the scenes. Improving them would lower their entertainment factor so I won't be giving suggestions. The current western community is shit and I don't want to seriously engage with it.

Same here. There's a guy in my local comm discord who seems the middle aged fetishist type but I don't have the spine to say anything just in case the mods are either friends with him or they'll cancel me for not being openminded enough.

I guess I'll just have to wait until he crosses some boundaries at which point it will already be too late.

I see us trying to share info on discord and FB groups and it gets swallowed up so easily, idk how anyone is supposed to find anything. especially on FB - the search function is strange, it will give me some very strange results when I'm trying to search for stuff. it feels hard to manipulate, but maybe I'm just an idiot. I know discord has pinned posts and they keyword search works a bit better but still.

My comm's discord doesn't vet people and I wish they did. Our facebook group does but the discord is set so that anyone who gets the link can join. Lots of random people do join and never participate or even introduce themselves. Maybe I'm paranoid but I wish the mods would kick inactive members or introduce some kind of vetting process instead of letting just anyone see all of our photos and conversations.

not even a lolita issue but an issue with almost everything today. even in visual art circles I am around, it is now considered "rude" to give concrit on people's artwork which I find absurd.
As much as I hate the right-wing grift of "people are too sensitive now", it is certainly true.
With lolita and art I feel like I am being held at gunpoint looking at the shittiest painting or shittiest coord that could easily be improved with basic critique but instead you have to smile and just say "it looks great :)"

the fb search function is sometimes completely useless. I'll know the name of a group and put it correctly into the search function and it won't show up. The only way it will show up is with google. And when I check the group info it says "this group can be found by anyone" suggesting it's not hidden.

I think we've really reached the point now where every coord is applauded or (if it is complete garbage) just gets ignored most of the time. People feel like it would go against the vibe of the group if they gave concrit, even if the poster requests it.

I think it was better in the past. Most people would give actual polite concrit. It's not like many people suggest that it was some wild west situation where you would get a lot of rude unhelpful responses.
I think the current situation stunts growth. If you want concrit, and you get none, and you see most coords (regardless of quality) being praised, you would not have a clue how to improve other than looking at GLBs and brand ads.

I'm in only 1 small lolita discord server that caters to people who sew their own dresses. It's pleasent in there, and I prefer it over FB. At this point I pretty much only use FB for private groups and events, and I would be happy to delete my account if more of my peers moved on to other socials.

Don't know if there's a discord for my local comm, as I'm somewhat new (started in January of this year) so I guess I'm a lonelita for now. Hopefully I can change that soon as I'd like to make some friends who are into lolita.

I was in the popular vetted server in the past, but I hated the drama-mongering mods and admins. It was just itas putting themselves on pedestals and making fun of other itas. Granted, that was a few years ago, but last I checked the head admin at least hasn’t changed and she was a big shit stirrer.

I’m in a smaller, substyle based server now that’s pretty laid back. No internal drama and light chitchat.
