Managed to get a hotel block reservation at Westin yesterday. I guess I got lucky people cancelled their hotel reservations after AX announced they were cancelling their vax pass mandate.

>> No.10772555

In other words a dumpster fire

>Live guests are local people you never heard of before, podcasters that don't talk about anime and Macbook DJ's
>Actual anime guests are people doing panels by Zoom because they are not leaving Japan
>Yaya Han, only real cosplaying guest
>Vaxx cards or negative tests are required each day even though there is no federal, state or local mandate. So you either need a plan to handle having everyone show their papers or you are going to have some long lines because you are going to have it where people lost/forgot/looking for their papers.
>Held in LA, if you leave the safety of the con bubble you will have to deal with homeless/druggies/gangs or some combination of all three because LA has devolved into a 3rd world country
>Gas in LA is over $6.00 and is going up. So if you were going to drive you might be paying $6.50 or higher by the time the con starts.

So yeah, going to stay home and catch the anime panels on YT later and save a $1,000 or more.

Anyone with half a brain knew Anime Expo was gonna roll this back.
Lets be real though, we know there's gonna be a "spreader event." It'll be con plague like it was in pre-covid years but because we now worship the church of Trust the Science sponsored by Pfizer, normie dipshits are gonna freak out and blame "anti vaxxers" instead of doing what we did in the good ol days: bunkering down during post con depression, sipping noodle soup and binging anime for a few days til we got better.

Money, more importantly they having a con because they can't pay anyone back because they are broke.

AX use to have a good cash flow but then it went into the red because the people in charge spent funds on themselves and called it a work expense. In other cases they were paying for events at AX that were a financial drain but the people running AX liked it so they kept it around. Do that for enough years and before you know it you have this issue on your hands:

>Have a convention
>Spend more money than you bring in
>Try to lower how much you are willing to pay people to cover other expenses
>No one is willing to work for less than what they were contracted to
>Start selling tickets for next year's con
>People buy tickets
>Get cash to pay people what you told them they were going to get paid
>Decide this is a good business model instead of making functional changes to your con so your ledgers are in the black.

This is how AX runs it operation at this point, and it worked until you have covid and it screws up this business model. So now they are stuck holding a con that would pass for a local, state level one instead of one that normally brings in people from across the country.

I remember if a con hit 10,000 people that was a big con, now if you are not hitting 10,000 in your first year then you are already considered a failure.

You could host a con in a large hotel where you could go to the ground floor, hang out, talk to strangers about anime and then head up to your hotel room for a little bit. Now you have to have it at some giant convention center, parking is horrible, hotels are either booked before you can get a room so you have to get something farther away, and you have to plan to hang out with people.

There is the difference. The one you went to was one where they were looking for talent. Bring in your portfolio and if is good then they could offer you a job or internship. Even if you didn't get a job you had someone in the industry look at your work and give advice on it.

This is AX, unless you have an animator from Japan looking at your work you are just asking someone to look at your work and that is about it. A lot of people that got vaccinated/boosted last year don't realize their vaccination has worn off and they're just as likely (actually slightly more because they're more likely to partake in activities with the mistaken assumption they're protected) to catch covid now as unvaccinated people are.

A study published in March in the New England Journal of Medicine, for example, found that in the U.K., two doses of the Pfizer/BioNTech vaccine were 65.5% effective at 2 to 4 weeks, falling to 8.8% after 25 or more weeks, with a Pfizer/BioNTech or Moderna booster increasing protection.

Depending on the amount you can go to small claims court. It is easy to file and if the other side doesn't show up you can easily win.

What a fucking disaster of a schedule and lineup. Should of bought tickets for anime matsuri or for another con. Oh well ill still go just to try and make friends but I'm not attending any events or panels aside from a couple.

Why the fuck is MIB on the 4th day? I'm only going on the 4th so I'm not personally upset kek, but it seems a bit unfair for everyone else who only chose one of the better days to go?

I'm just happy the trigger panel is back, never not had a good time at those.
Premieres aren't as good as 2019, but it isn't the disaster I thought it would be.
AX hasn't had a decent concert lineup since 2018, people need to give up on that front.
