I want to like meta more but they somehow just always miss the mark for me on some detail. Like I'll like the print but they don't have a color way I would wear, or the details are too fancy for what I would want as a more casual dress.

This. I want to like Meta and their pieces are growing on me, but something always stops me buying them.

I normally love Meta but the last year and a bit of print (re)releases haven't been doing much for me and I'm sick of that polyester crepe they like to use. Strawberry Harvest looks like it should be a cute daily dress, but I'm not convinced about the print scale.

To my shock I think Meta is actually the based skinny brand. I got my first 2021 Meta dress and the shirring actually has to stretch a tiny bit and the bodice is nice and snug on my body.
Comparatively, all of my AP dresses with shirring, the shirring doesn't hug me and literally droops down on my back, it's so large.

I just got the Stella OP rerelease, I was kicking myself for missing it the first time so I won't let that happen again lol. The choker and ruffled details around the back lacing are too cute. I think Meta is one of those brands whose stock photos don't do it justice, like MAM or Marble; I was very iffy on the flocked shantung JSK they recently released based on pics but after seeing it in person I fell in love, it's gorgeous.

Meta is maximum comfy and maximum flexible. I've had weight changes up and down and Meta has never not fit me through it all. The only thing that would propel them even further into excellence would be pockets.

Meta is also really affordable second hand. I've found skirts and JSKs for 4k, 5k, 7k yen easily. Sometimes, it's their less desirable prints but a lot of the time it's really cute stuff. I got an ivory skirt with roses and ribbons on it for 3500 yen.

I like to support them by buying their new releases but really wish more of their stuff were cotton.

Quality wise I'd say Meta has always been the same if not better than AP. But style wise I usually prefer BABY and (old) AP for prints.

You could say BABY is hyped too because of no blood baths. Just because Chinese girls and scalpers aren't buying everything like with AP doesn't mean that the brand is somehow worse and overhyped. It just means they're better at managing demand. Both of their shops also offer international shipping directly rather than having to deal with SS.

I wish they made the bows smaller (they're clearly supposed to be an exaggeration, that's how animation works) and made the front of the bodice lace up or plain instead of adding on even more bows. I'm glad they reduced the number of tiers at least. I really really wish they kept the square neckline. I get that it was pretty low cut in the show, but again, that's animation exaggeration. Instead of a modesty panel I they could have just raised the square neckline.

I think a pet peeve I have is with "dress for your body type" advice is that they make assumptions of what you want to look like, and often aren't even explicit about the goal.
V-shape: often focuses on visually reducing shoulders, but what if she wants to look imposing?
Straight: often focuses on exaggerating bust/hips, but what if she wants to look lithe?
Hourglass: often focuses on featuring waist ratio, but what if she wants to look desexed?

The body type I got with this test was going on about how I should be corp-butch. Like sure, I know I could pull it off, but that's featuring parts of me that I DON'T like.
