Ahh thanks for explaining. That's kind of what I was thinking, that they want to sell their US stock. Based on the coords AP SF posts online and in their emails they don't always have a lot in store to support a cohesive full coord so it is much easier if people bring supporting pieces in their own size (like shoes or legwear since their shoes, socks and tights vary a lot in size), and obviously they don't want other brands' stuff mixed in when they're trying to advertise.

Hopefully they mention what dresses they're having people model so people can just bring accessories based on that and not have to pack their entire closet just in case they get matched with XYZ print.

I don't get what the whining is all about.. Haven't you gulls ever modeled for a show before? None of these requirements are strange; infact they are WAY more lenient then most modeling gigs; they just want you to fit the size RANGE, not a specific size (0,2, 4 or 6) like in most shows.
Part of the reason I got into lolita is the sizing isn't specific; you can fit lots of girls of different shapes into any dress; most dresses are technically 4 or 6 dress sizes combined (via the shirring and gathered skirts). Really everyone here just needs to count their blessings that this is a fashion not focused on one particular built or one particular tag size.

AP displays are honestly making these releases look even worse.

I work at a clothing company that manufactures mostly in China and the situation in a lot of industrial areas there is fucked right now. Many of our orders are late because fabric mills have been closed, factories are operating on a reduced schedule and there’s major shipping and freight delays both domestic and international. AP is probably experiencing similar problems, even if the garments are sewn in Japan there could be delays with fabric, trims, labels, etc that come from suppliers in China.

I have the Cat's Tea Party MTO and it didn't seem any larger than my other AP prints from the same time period. I can't find the MTO measurements on Lolibrary (they only have the 2020 set and I'm not sure if they changed it from the MTO), but I remember people complaining that it was the smaller, original sizing. Which is dumb. I honestly feel like all rereleases should be in the original sizing.

Honey Cake was a nightmare and it makes me die inside that it could happen to another rerelease/MTO that actually matters. Making something polyester and huge is an abomination.

I have both the original release CTP and the MTO version and can confirm the sizing is almost identical. There's a 1.5 cm difference between the two dresses I own. Could be due to the elastic being more stretched on one of them.

I do think there was a change in the overall feel of the brand in 2015 or so. It's hard to explain, but if you sort jsks in lolibrary and look at 2014 and earlier compared to 2015 and later you can see it. It's as if they completely changed their team of designers and artists. Perhaps a key designer left the Company then? They started using polyester other than chiffon way more around this time. They also started rehashing themes over and over - so we get the same themes with an updated print each year (a strawberry print, a cherry print, a mermaid print, a space print, etc.).

I like a small handful of releases from after 2015, but I admit I have questionable taste sometimes. Doll's tea party is cute. I used to like Dolly Dot a lot. For some reason, I really like Neon Star Diner even though I hate the fabric and its kind of huge on me.

I can't believe AP is so stubborn that they haven't announced a delay for Nakayoshi Bunny when it's this obvious. I guess we'll see it in 2023 with Candy Fairy.

I’m not sure when it happened, but I’m pretty sure that the designers that were there 10 years ago are gone, Maki and Asuka aren’t the faces of the brand anymore which could be age but I think they left (or at least Maki, the prints are shit now). I think the lack of good prints combined with lower quality materials really made the brand lose the “sparkle” that it had, it kept the prestige because of reputation but I think a lot of new stuff just sells out because of Chinese girls with more money than taste who want to feel superior for having a big wardrobe and having trouble finding older stuff they want.
I bought my first AP items in 2007 and the most recent print I have is from 2015. I have some more recent accessories/jewelry/socks but nothing big. I wish they still had good designs but it seems that the heyday is in the past.

I feel like they are both still working there as they are always tea party "guests" but they definitely have less involvement with the design process now as I haven't had a feeling that any of the designs are theirs.

I don't mind the repetition because it means that as someone who likes specific themes that I'll always get at least one new thing each year or more acessories. It'd be impossible to only release themes that had never been done before. Someone out there loves poodle or dog prints, someone wants berries, someone wants marine themes, and of course many want toy prints and we get multiple toy prints a year and no one complains about that theme repeating.

The issue is less the theme repetition and more the quality of prints and materials. If every nu AP thing was on par with Ice Cream Parlor, LBS, Happy Garland, and Bear's Chocolaterie, with a few adjustments, and on the nicer poly or cotton I think most of us would be fine with it.

The sizing probably didn't change. AP just measures their clothing differently now than they did back then. The sc mto op was also listed with bigger measurements than the original and turned out to be the same exact size when it arrived.

So I went in person to AP SF since I was in the area. It’s the first time I’ve seen an AP store in person in 3 years and holy shit it was so disappointing.

The new releases are hideous and so unbelievably cheap looking. I’m mostly a lonelita, so the last release I recall seeing in person was icp. Lemonade float looks decent but a little cheap ish. Girly apples stunned me, especially the special set op. It looks so cheap. You know how AP usually uses the nicer, thicker ribbon? Not so for this release. The ribbons look genuinely awful and are the super shiny cheap kind. The detachable sleeves on the op set are that super shiny cheap polyester.

Fresh strawberry diner also uses the super cheap ribbon, and the fabric looks really odd, almost faded, though it is better than the wooly viella. Lovely toy box is actually hideous. Like holy shit the online photos are almost deceiving, because irl the color palette looks awful. Like really really bad.

I’m so sad about this. The only thing that even looked passable was a non print, cotton jsk that had some old school vibes. It’s really a shame. I already knew I didn’t want to buy nu ap, but seeing it in person and what the ap stores have turned into kind of stings because you can see that the AP that made me fall in love with the fashion is well and truly dead.

This. A girl in my comm has it so I’ve seen it irl and that might be the ugliest colors I’ve ever seen on an ap dress. The blue is this nasty teal color, and the pinks don’t really match at all, plus the actual design of the background print feels unfinished. In fairness, I thought it was uggo in the stock photos, but the stock photos definitely make the colors look less awful and I think they clearly used a tone editor on photoshop to reduce how badly it clashes when you see it in person.

Baby retail is actually more expensive. The cotton releases are around $400 and I think it was the one chocolate strawberry cut that was around $450 or so? Either way, baby is definitely not the cheap brand. I guess older ap is more expensive than older baby, but that’s mostly because older AP wasn’t objectively hideous and has key hype prints.

I don't think they use as much of the textured cotton releases, but I have several of their newer releases and one was a thicker, nice cotton (sugar boquet) and the other was a lighter cotton but not see-through (fallin ribbon). I was satisfied with both quality, especially since they still use cotton lace.
