There's a section with her thoughts about the fashion - I found it curious how even in 2001 lolitas were apprehensive about the title and avoided saying it out loud. Kind of dispels the myth that westerners were the only ones who ever had a problem with the fashion's name.

I think 2006 is too early (still too many old school style pieces being released), whilst there was an obvious shift towards other aesthetics in 2008, so imo the old school era ended somewhere in 2007.

Yeah, I was just guessing, but looking back on library I would say 2006. The next year is when rose toilette and country of sweets came out, officially kicking off the era of border prints. Prior to that AP mainly dabbled in screen prints like pastel ala mode, which I still consider old school.

I'm using AP as a kind of bellwether since they, like other brands, released pretty similar stuff to Baby and everybody else until some point in the mid 00s where brands started deviating into their more modern look.

I'm using btssb as a barometer. If I look at lolibrary OPs and JSKs from 2005 btssb was very old school but when I look at 2006 it's a mix of old school and other aesthetics.
With the Koitsukihime Stained Angel dresses, the baby border dresses, Tears of the Snow Princess OP and the Royal OP serving as the new non-oldschool flavors that year.
In 2007 there are more non-old school style pieces than there are old school style pieces that aren't re-releases.

If I look at AP in 2006 I can see a shift happening, but still with lots of old school pieces, whilst 2007 the shift is more obvious (I see more prints and more chiffon) and I think you're right about country of sweets. Also stuff like Candy Pop.

I've always had more eyes for btssb, so I think I'm going with you on AP.
