Looks less like interior decor and more like a museum village
although there might be very very few people who still live like this. I had a relative who had a very traditional cottage until she died in the mid 90s and her kids who inherited renovated it (they kept a lot of the features though, like ceiling beams, which I thought was super cool). Tiled fireplaces using same type of tiles? There are, more modern typically, examples of such fireplaces. Probably no many examples of more ancient fireplaces like (if any at all) that as tiled stoves evolved from plain masonry heating stoves (wich are literally thousands of years old tech in continental Europe at this point), while areas that had fireplaces didn't use these massive tiles and preferred flat tiles. The only examples of well, semi-fireplaces are like the picrel. I call it semi as they are still modeled as tiled stoves just having bigger fuel burning chamber, et it's still smaller than regular English fireplace and much more built in than for example Bulgarian fireplaces that were much more open than English ones.

You can find pictures by looking for "tiled fireplace" in Slavic ("kominek kaflowy" in Polish) or Germanic languages (I tried looking for "Kachelkamin") other than English.
But majority of them look like just typical tiled stove masonry heaters just with bigger burning chamber and glass doors.

English results for "tiled fireplace" yeld typical English/UK victorian(ish) style with flat tiles like these popular in modern bathrooms.

Actual tiled stove tiles are big and chunky "3D" structures looking kinda like flat open shoebox.

I don't know what exactly you are looking for to read about them - but they seem to just regular European stoves with bigger burning chamber. So if you already know concepts connected with fireplaces just read articles about European masonry heaters. Concept of masonry heater is to use big masonry mass to accumulate heat for many hours after fuel gets burned out. In Europe typically special kind of bricks is being used. Heat is accumulated from fumes that are being routed to the chimney by elaborately very long ducts inside stove.

Tiled stove is just a case of masonry heater that developed from stoves like picrel. Development of ceramic outer shell eliminated need of repainting and recoating them every few years. Before tiles were used they were typically covered with layer of clay and painted with layer of white lime. Initially in middle ages tiles very used only in richer houses and palaces. Around the end of XIX century they started to be more common also in peasant houses by the mid XX century they became wildly affordable for pretty much everyone.

BTW Asians has been using masonry heaters too. They just preferred to lead fume ducts under the floor and to have big sleeping space on that floor in contrast to Europeans who tended to build more vertical than horizontal structures and have smaller sleeping spaces on them or by them (European peasant stoves often had small space where elderly people were sleeping in the winter, I'm not aware if any palace stoves had sleeping space as part of their design - there are however examples of palace tiled stoves with throne spaces ).

Chinese name for their masonry heaters if I understand correctly is kang. Heaters like that were/are used also outside China.

Honestly, some herbs like basil are just short lived. You can maybe get a second season out of it if it stays very warm and sunny where you are, without big dips in temperature, but it's mostly an annual plant. I keep a Lot of houseplants and I still can't keep basil healthy/tasty past November. It's one I rebuy every spring and then just make pesto with whatever's left as soon as it starts getting scraggly in the fall.

Rosemary is a perennial and so can last years and years. The decorative shrubs outside my apartment are 3 foot high rosemary shrubs that had me do a double take when I moved in. Other perennials that do well over winter are sage, thyme, and oregano. Mint/lemon balm aren't evergreen but are so hard to kill they'll usually be fine too but will need more water than the others. Chives have a short lifespan but you can grow them indoors pretty much any time of year with enough light, but like basil, don't expect an individual plant to last forever.

Your experience may vary based on any extreme location/temps/light of course.

Thank you for the plant filled dump nonny. Love all the greenery.

In around 5-6 months we're gonna be moving to a beachside town and I'm hoping to do like a seaside theme, but with lots of indoor plants added. I don't have any house plants rn bc our apartment right now only has windows on one side, but I hope to have an herb garden and to macrame my own plant hangers. We're gonna have roommates and we have cats so I have to look into plants that are resilient and cat safe but roomies don't care about home decor so they're letting me have free reign with the living room and kitchen. I want squishy couches, greyish-brown stained wood, rope and macrame, and turquoise colour for accents.

My recommendation would be to decorate after you get into the new place simply for furniture reasons. Also, work out if your vibe is actually Edwardian or more of an antique mix-up like the photo you have posted.

If you can afford actual Edwardian furniture, you can use that as a focal point to build the rest of the room around, but realise that it may require significant curation of things you already own to get the aesthetic you want.

If you look closely you can see there is a black clip-on lamp pointing at the herbs, and a silver lamp pointing at the ones in front of the window, as well as everything being in front of or near the window. Plus there are plenty of plants that do fine in mostly artificial light so if you have overhead lights there's lots that will be fine, even if it's not very bright (pothos, spider plants, cast iron plant). I only have windows on one wall in my living room and they point almost directly south, and pothos/spiders do well even 10feet back into the room where there's only indirect/ambient light. Succulents have to be crowded right in front of the window however.

If you mean actual silver wear made out of true silver - these are hard to get in my country (commie times here were not exactly good for luxury items like silver items) even 2nd hand/thrift store/flea market and the one that are available are crazy expensive (we typically earn here 1/3-1/4 of typical US wage). Plus I don't particularly like to deal with silver patina. It mostly leaves me with ceramic or glass.

There is also pewter ware producer Artina in Austria, they have some interesting designs occasionally if someone feels ok with using pewter for silverware (it's a quite soft alloy and gains grayish patina over time i myself have some questions considering chemical reactions with food ingredients too) a.k.a. what were the Addams Familly using in the 1990s movie. But these here are more decorative, some even VERY decorative (too decorative for me) https://artina.at/

I been to clubs with black red decor schemes and they were alright with dimmed light. But a lot of course depends on personal tolerance and temperament.Deeper darker red (dark scarlet, dark rose petals) tones personally relax me. But I can imagine there are people who might feel overhelmed.

As for furniture I personally prefer darkwood. It been a staple of goth home decor until the fashion for all black furniture spawned relatively recently. Like around 10 years ago. Earlier darkwood was a norm as well were brass items. Darkwood blends well with brass. As well as with silver/pewter tones.

Example of 1990s gothic interiors (yes, I know some can call interviewed crowd pretentious but I post it for interiors not people) https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=mZmRqthNUiA

Also cast/wrought iron candelabra were popular. Nowadays I can see them everywhere on flea markets, craiglist type services etc places listed for very cheap. fraction of what you have to play for new aluminium candelabra that seems to be popular nowadays. BTW you can find also pewter (be aware that very old pewter formulas might contain lead) candelabra for pennies.

Heck, even brass colored jewellery was a norm if we go back to the 1980s. There is not unusual to see people wearing brass goth pieces.

I think monochrome black and silver only was a trend that evolved mostly in Germany in the 90s. But I have only European perspective. And it still been mostly trend in wardrobe than furniture. Hmmm maybe it is IKEA and similar brands of cheat furniture to be blamed for all black furniture trend as they typically had black, white and some nude wood pieces. And black comes as the most natural choice from all of them. But that's just theory.

Back to wood - indeed you can mix furniture and elemets of that color with many different color and still preserve basic character while introducing alternate feel. I think that dark green is one of classic colors that been mixed with darkwood. Green felt, marble

It's also interesting how (at least in my oppinion) green tones seems to work with "spooky context". Might be something deeply rooted in primordial brain regions conected with predators hiding in bushes/high grass, poisonous herbs etc. Green is not an uncommon color for goth makeup and jewellery.

I think black/white/red became more popular in the 2000s with terribad gothic home decor blogs where black furniture was the way to spruce up normie dorm rooms and shared rental places where people didn't really have freedom to paint. I personally like the combination of antique dark wood with silver better than brass, but I think some of that is a reaction to generic millennial styling with mid century scandi blush pink and rose gold/copper/brass accents.

Ah yea, I kinda had in mind what you are writing about as IMHO 2000s were times when IKEA (and it's clones) took off for good internationally as way of filling rented spaces for cheap .

There also been a very short lived trend for black colored interiors in the late 80's - very early 90's. But I know it mostly from interior design magazines I saw in my deep childhood.

As for darkwood it's currently not that hard to find on e-bay or similar services 2nd hand pieces at relatively friendly prices. It also seems to be back into more mainstream designs especially art-deco/bauhaus/loft inspired. So you can do some experimentation in mixing different styles.

And there are also full blown huge ass massive XIX century complete furniture sets of darkwood bedrooms/cabinets if you smell like a serious cash. In my country they mostly come from Germany. But most of us are too pleb to afford them. Ehh...

I would like to once again mention wrought black iron stuff - like for example pixrel that you can use as standing flowerbed or keep more representative shoe exposition on it. Or whatever else.

Yea. Very decorative wrought iron has that gothic vibe to it. It been popular few times trough 20th century but is currently mostly out of vogue so you can find many interesting pieces 2nd hand often for not that much. Especially more "gothic" looking as "normies" tend to see such pieces as "ugly" and put lower price tags on them. I have seen pair of standing candelabras looking like straight out of Elvira's show (you know, these standing behind shezlong she sits on) for funny small money sad I have nowhere to put them ATM.

>It's more for the outside of the house than inside but I feel like it has versatility. Good pick. What style is your decor?

Whatever landlord puts in what I rent pretty much. Empty unfurnished apartments for rent are rarity in my country and I am not yet buying anything of my own. Personally I'm mostly Art Deco fan but have some interests in neogothic and 19th/early20th wooden central/eastern European (Poland, Ukraine, Belarus, Lithuania) architecture that kinda reassembles USA wooden Queen Annie (a.k.a. Victorian) houses in level of ornamentation outside. But we had different plans of buildings (much simpler - absence of any round shapes, almost no "towers") and much simpler interiors - no English paneling inside, etc. Sadly a lot of that architecture is totally ruined nowadays. Picrel is an example of such style from Vilnus in Lithuania - it mixes elements of few wooden styles - Polish, Lithuanian and Belarusian with some distant inspirations. If you google "wooden architecture [eastern europe/baltics/belarus/latvia/lithuania etc] 19th century" you would find many examples of rich ornamentation of these styles. There is also kinda separate "Styl Zakopiański" (Zakopane style, Zakopane is a city in Polish Carpathians)
