anything else you guys can think of?

>> No.10695768

I have found that guys are more likely to be wandering around the con alone.

>> No.10695856

I have seen a lot more guys without wigs but trying to cosplay anyway. Or they use their natural hair.

Is this not statistics rather than stereotypes?

>> No.10695861

I kinda agree mostly, but that percentage of guys wearing wigs is just way too high, most would just kind of style their hair into something similar to the character

>> No.10695892

Strange…….I never cosplay any of that.

Sephiroth for male cosplay probably
Also seen a ton of astolfo recently, though mostly from male cosplayers who already crossdress, so I'm not sure that applies to what you're trying to measure.

how much does that percentage dop if you don't count only foundation/concealer as wearing makeup, kek

>> No.10695998

I'm phonefagging to be desu, so too lazy to go into a ton of detail right now. What can be said is, of all the cons I've done this year, there wasn't a single Yoko until last week at AWA. And if Ryuko or Erza were this common, I'd know because I'm always on the lookout for those two above all else. Zero Two is of course a new perennial favorite, yes. For good measure, Megumin belongs on there too.

This is weirdly outdated. How old are you/when did you collect this data OP? Evangelion, Sword Art, FF, Bleach are all kind of dead in terms of cosplayers. The most popular franchises/series now are Demon Slayer, MHA, Genshin, FGO.

also I see most* semi-serious cosplayers wearing wigs at the very least. Only exceptions are people who are cosplaying for the first time, people that are just messing around, and black people (for some godforsaken reason they NEVER wear wigs and it always looks like an OC).

Eva may not have the presence it used to but it's going nowhere anytime soon. It's a given that basically the entire cast will be there, and usually several of each. Final Fantasy VII is back in full force for obvious reasons, even if everyone always picks Cloud, Aerith or Tifa. Another comeback story is Soul Eater, actually, and that's also the entire main cast. Bleach, however, is dead in the water. Clearly it's had no staying power AT ALL because even the much hated Fairy Tail is everywhere, both in costumes and merch.

>for some godforsaken reason they NEVER wear wigs
I assume because it’s not going to fit under a wig and look good unless they’re bald. I don’t even have anything close to black-textured hair but mine still looks puffy under a wig despite cornrowing, just because of the length. If I had a whole afro, I could imagine that it would be even more impossible since you probably have to get it professionally cornrowed each time you want to wear one.

It might be pre-covid data, I've only been to one con since covid-19.

What if this was data of long term con attendance because Evangelion, Bleach and FF are kind of evergreen cosplays in the scene while the latter ones will probably be forgotten out of fashion in a few years

>> No.10696470

Where/how was this data collected?

I started cosplaying at 15, I'm 28 now. I know very few people that "started" in their 20's. But I guess the times they are a changin

Stereotypes when it comes to crossplayer reactions are, even when outside the actual convention setting

When a guy sees it
>Hey, cool outfit, man! You're looking real sexy. Keep it up!

When a girl sees it
>OH MY GOD YOU ARE ADORABLE I LOVE THIS SO MUCH!! What are you pronouns?

>>10696082
>and black people (for some godforsaken reason they NEVER wear wigs and it always looks like an OC).
This is very true but there's just a little extra something that could be said here

Black male cosplays
>Going for a look of cool, suave, manly

White male cosplays
>Going for a look of cute, dainty, feminine
Of course neither one holds true all the time, but it's what I've come to expect and the ratios always skew in these directions without fail.

Going to start off by saying I'm not black, but it makes some amount of sense for black folk to use their own hair. I mean there is also the topic of black pride and owning who you are when it comes to being black in America. If no matter if you have a spot on wig or not you're going called black Naruto or black Goku, ect you have a choice of either going through with that or just owning your identity and your look. Is cosplay not a form of self expression?

I get what you’re trying to say, but when it comes down to it, cosplaying is you ACTIVELY trying to be someone else so I feel like that argument doesn’t work well here

I get what you're saying and on some level I agree, but I have come back with you're not fully trying to "be" someone else. The goal isn't hide the real you. I know it's paradoxical but it's not all that uncommon or strange. The point of the costume, and presenting yourself as someone else helps people like us get in tune with our actual selves. The cosplay is mostly there to help you feel yourself. Just like having a drink or two before hitting the town.
