For some reason I see this a lot with Eastern suits, the style of the suit is lovely and I much prefer it over Western styles but the materials themselves look awful. Untrimmed/shaved, cheap shiny looking fur, often ungroomed looking. What's up with that?

I'm >>10670917 and have 3 personal suits, and about 7 other suits between me and my partner. Your cheapest option is making a suit yourself, as seen by the white suit in my picture, as you only have to pay material costs which is about $200. Otherwise it's about keeping an eye on different sales sites and finding bargains, you'll find chinese makers will often sell fursuits for $200 each but they're also harder to buy from because of the language barrier and payment methods. Premade fursuits and preowned fursuits will always be cheaper. I'm the third owner of the Kylie Dracani fursuit in the picture for example, so I got the partial for $800

I collect a lot of things, fursuits, warhammer, figures, lolita, the only reason I have a lot is because I build up my collections slowly over time, one big item every few years, and finding secondhand items for bargains.

Depends on where the weight is sometimes large suits like that don't have permanent stuffing.Its removable pillows that don't add the weight but over time yes it can stretch.

She's made of folded eva foam, her jaw completely detached with an elastic band running around the head going under the jaw in one big loop. She's very small and slim fitting yet has a really reactive jaw. Elastics will be your best option

Large tote bag, seen some even just use bin bags. Mine fit under my seat and in my lap, but someone else on the plane had their yamishizen head in a regular backpack and put it in overhead. Felt bad for them when the door fell open during landing and the head tumbled down the plane. No damage, fursuit heads can take a beating. They're not as fragile as you expect.

Not him but you make it sound like some sort of superhero identity that gets passed down legacy-wise, which is kind of cool. Speaking of legacy, how does that sort of thing feel when you're doing that? Wearing someone else's suit or something premade? How does that work for furries in general? You would think most would work on their own fursonas before getting into the skin of someone else, no?

There's two ways to go about it, you can either buy the suit WITH character rights or without. For Nevada I was offered character rights but opted out, and with Penny I was never offered them.

If you get the character rights it's usually more expensive, and is kind of like taking on the mantle of that identity. It's typically common in popular fursuits like the Justin Bieber one where you're buying the fame of that character.

I don't really into that, I opted out of character rights because I feel weird wearing someone elses skin. When you get a suit without the character rights it's typically agreed that you will change something about the design. Like on Nevada I will be changing the ears and a whole different body design, and on Penny she is just getting a new body. It's like designing a fursona except the head cannot be changed which offers a lot of creativity.

Penny, the Kylie Dracani suit has a bit of backstory to her. The original owner cares a lot about the suit, and has become my friend since. It feels like I'm wearing an heirloom, and when I wear her I try to make the original owner happy by showing her how much I take care of the suit and keep it safe. It can be heartbreaking shen someone buys a fursuit from you that means a lot to you and it gets destroyed or ends up rotting in a closet unworn.

Fursuits like >>10693918 and >>10693915 are made of 4-way stretch fabric. I own a bodysuit made of the same material. It just stretches like a pair of tights.

I wasn't able to get suited up before it got dark, sorry, will try again tomorrow this is the best picture I have of it but I'm wearing long sleeved clothing and a long skirt over it so it's hard to really see. My friend got me the fur from some underground fabric shop in Japan, sadly I can't recall the name or location other than the fabric district of Tokyo. The furs label said polyester and spandex on it.

It’s a fox, the ears were cut wrong and I had to work with it because I made her from scrap fabric, so thats what leads her to look rodenty. She’s being remade when I have time and I’ll actually be trying this time lol. I did not make the base and I think the base is where a lot of her doofiness comes from since she has a 5head and is a chinlet, I used a premade base I got for cheap just because of how rushed I was making her. I was making two other fursuits in the same week that had more priority, I even sewed parts of her on a train. I only made her because I was bored of my other suit and wanted a new one.

This is one of the other two fursuits made during that week, which came out pretty decent, the claws here are broken and theres a few flaws but I’ve since fixed, just hasnt been worn since because I need to do some interior adjustments

seems like the absolute vast majority of the time I run into a fursona/furry profile on social media nowadays - they turn out to be in their mid teens to absolute early 20's at the latest/oldest.

kind of bummed out, as a 26 year old who kind of missed out/slept on the fandom and hated furries with a thousand sons growing up - due to peer pressure from the whole anti-fur bandwagon - and as somebody who never really 'had a life' or 'formative years' to begin with - due to chronic depression, being stuck in a decadent rural shitstain with nobody I could relate to, being too anxious to reach out to/develop friendships online and identity/decision/pursuit based disturbances/paralysis.

I kind of what to find a wholesome/non toxic circle/group of fellow millenial furries - but i'm assuming they already are established within their in-groups, are busy/caught in with productive matters, already had their 'formative' experiences and probably are retired/partially retired from the fandom for the most part.

Like 90 percent of the public internetsphere in this day and age consists of annoying poptimismt pewdiepie tiktok zoomers - and I can't get on board with their approaches to zeitgeist. I prefer the '00's-very early 10's dedicated gaming forum' cultural sphere of things.

I haven't really thought about it before. I would want to go with something a bit more traditional than most of the practically neon suits out there. Rustic colors and regal patterns would look pretty cool imo.

I think kemono and realistic are my favorites. Some toony suits can be cute and cool, but they just aren't as strong as kemono and realistic. I also prefer natural or toned down (navy blue, dark red) colors over super bright and flashy ones.

There's this one suit that StuffedPandaStudios made, and while it's really uncanny I kinda like it. I'm thinking about buying the same base and eyes and trying to make my fursona look that way, since I can't decide between realistic or kemono.

i need some help. i'm planning on making my first suit, and i've been to a few stores to look for materials and jot down the prices, but i haven't been able to find long faux fur anywhere. for context i live in a shithole (brazil), i've seen some sites where they sell faux fur and i've looked on etsy but being sold in usd (1 usd = 5,65 brl, our currency) + shipping makes it absurd expensive. my best bet are sites like aliexpress.
the only type of faux fur i was able to find on stores are very short ones, the one that look like they were made for carpets. i'd imagine that specially for the hair, it would be difficult to work with, but i have no idea where i should look for longer ones.

faux fur is very heavy, so you likely won't have much luck finding good fur for cheap. Best you could do is figure out exactly how much fur you need and buy exactly that much, since every gram matters when shipping internationally.
There is also the options of looking at furniture and clothing in thrift stores or discount stores. Me and another fursuiter I knew have made fursuit parts out of very cheap furry pillows

for those who have eva foam bases, how do you like them compared to upholstery foam or resin heads?

Cartoony is very easy for beginners since there is more margin for error. Realistic is MUCH harder to get right, since any small error will make it look uncanny.

To those who build your own, how many times did it take before you shook off the "newbie" look. I want to build my own and while I have experience with cosplay and crafting it was never full body and didn't have as much going on as a full suit.
