/r/requesting advice/ ideas. Want to make my room look nicer on a budget.
I really like something like white/shiro gothic or more classical looking?
Current ideas are:
- Change the bedding to something with more ruffles/ colour coordinated with the rest of the room
- some sort of lacey cover for the seat? Not sure where I'd find this
- More art on walls that isn't just anime posters and maybe even framed if that's not exxy
- cable covers.

Simplest way to d goth style is to get dark wood furniture with retro style - which is easily available in some countries for quiet cheap as people treat them as "old fashioned" and gladly sell. The "alld black furniture" trend is invention of a last decade and before that time it was dark wood/chestnut that was a color to go for gothic rooms. Just look local garage sales, antique shops, auction services online etc. I bet you can find plenty dark wood stuff to fill your dark and unusual rooms.

Dark wood comes well with black clothing as well as with dark red, violet and other popular gothic palette colors. You can actually take photos on background of such colors and see something in the photo instead of capturing just a huge black mass of your outfits on background of black darkness. Most cameras barely can film in all black rooms.

For example this table and 4 chairs would come great for gothic room furniture and it costs just 200 pounds for whole set on ebay. "Solid Dark Wood Dining Table And 4 Chairs" title is how it's listed on ebay. Yes I know it has some minor damage but it's just an example of what you can find and If I was on budget I still can afford it if I buy one set by saving 50 pounds a month for home decor. o why not?

Other nice side of having dark wood is that it allows you to add brass items to room without creating too high contrast with silvery metal elements. Mixing silver and bras while having palette limited to black and white is much harder. Dark brown as a transit color tone softens down palette. It's a really underrated trick nowadays.

Those window shutters are an awesome focal point feature to work around so that's good starting point. But right now you're a long way off from achieving any kind of classic or gothic aesthetic, so you need to start small. (I'd recommend aiming for shiro gothic if you intend to keep your computer in the room, since it's much harder to work black electronics into a classic look.)

>declutter
You have a whole lot of random disjointed crap in your room. Pastel anime pics, fairy lights, darker pics on the other wall, random desk chair in the corner, giant blue body pillow on the bed, etc. Start by getting rid of the non-essential stuff and get as close to a clean slate as you can

>paint
Paint is pretty cheap and your walls will dictate what colors the rest of the room should be. Doing something like a dark accent color on the wall with that white window might look really pretty.

>replace and recolor/restyle the essentials
Start with the smaller items like bedding, lamps, and so on. Look at thriftstores, craiglist, etc. for larger items like your desk and chair. For some things it may not be possible to replace them. In that case look into repainting them, or adding details like decorative trim.

>decorate
This is the last step after you've gotten your furniture sorted out.
