naryt, the fit and drape of the fabric leaves a lot to be desired - it basically looks like it's homesewn shit in the bad way, like how most of the outfits in OnS hang oddly on the models. There's also a complete lack of detailing anywhere else in the outfit that makes it look extremely cheap as well. The finish on the hems and sleeves are the same amount of width for both (hems are usually given more fabric for adjustments when it's this plain - a lot of lolita dresses cover this with lace detailing or extra layers of ruffles) and whatever they used for the overdress is also looks unfinished. For something this simple, there's been no attention paid to choice of fabric that would enhance the look of it, and the lace detail on the neck not being carried over anywhere else makes it look like it's an abandoned thought.

So I can see why that anon would think of it as more of a costume that's not gonna stand up to laundering and repeated wear, because I don't think it will either.

About the hem width? Yeah, JM and VM both have about an inch of so of hem on anything that has nothing else attached to it, along with blind stitching. I realize my wording made it sound like other brands have that much hem but cover it with adornment which is not true - I meant that when there's lace or ruffles that it takes the place of a blind stitched hem with extra fabric.

If you're talking about other parts of it, I'd appreciate it if you'd point out what I got wrong.

mostly about the hem width. I never owned any jm or vm dresses so it makes sense. I owned ap, baby, moitie, boz, iw dresses that end without any lace or ruffle and as far as I can remember none of them had extra fabric. blind stitch is rare too, at least in newer releases.

about the sheer layer: sheer fabrics are sometimes left unfinished as a design choice if there is no risk of fraying. some other stuff you mentioned are also about design and not an indicator of quality.

it’s difficult to talk about fabric from a single photo but in my opinion it seems to be a good match for the flowy design. compare it to the dress other anon posted which looks wrinkly and stiff. english is my second language but I hope this helps
