You do need to monitor calories, but dieting alone without any exercise is very difficult to maintain in the long term. The best practice (to me) is to plan exercise for midday if you're just not a moony person, and straight up plan to have a good snack after or stop eating early. I do get tired of people who say losing weight is easy, it's hard. I think people give up when they realize this or they convince themselves it's easy by beating themselves up. I'm currently losing weight so if anyone else is trying, remember, yes it IS hard, you're NOT crazy, the most important thing is if you mess up today don't just give up. Honestly as someone really short, my biggest fear when I lost weight was that it would be super easy for someone to grab me and run at 115 lbs than when I was 200+. I know most people are murdered by someone they know and all but women being spontaneously killed by shitty men they inadvertently rejected or didn't let down easily enough and felt led on, etc. is not an uncommon occurrence, so it is a legit thought some people have had, especially if you have anxiety and watch or are aware of true crime stories.

The bright side is being healthier means you can just run faster and get away so relying on weight to make yourself a less desirable target or make it hard for someone to harm you isn't really the best solution and you should just try to improve your physical fitness to improve the chance you're strong and quick enough to be able to get away from someone crazy.
