On the edge I'd say. Depends on how well the vaccination rate goes in NY. I have a feeling though that if the organizers can't foresee a big enough physical attendance for the space, they may preemptively choose the virtual or skip-a-year option.

>> No.10566704

I'm wondering what is going to happen with the Colossalcons. Colossalcon East and Colossalcon Texas would seem to have a decent chance of happening since they aren't happening until fairly late in the year. The water parks at both venues have already been open for a while. And of course Texas gives zero fucks about corona so that bumps their odds up even higher.
Ohio/Prime is the wildcard. I don't see that happening in June, and I'm not sure if they'll postpone or cancel it entirely.
There's no fucking way they're going to hold all 3 events within the span of a couple of months, so if Ohio gets postponed, either East or Texas is gonna get the axe.
I'm going to be fucking livid if it's East that gets cut.

what happens next is vitally important. as long as those states don't suddenly spike in cases (and as long as no one fudges the numbers to make it look worse than it actually is), others should follow suit
i pray to god florida happens next. i need this.

Most of the world has similar meat farming practices as China, its just down to luck which animal in which country just happens to be the one that develops a virus that can spread to humans.
Mad cow disease came from England https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Bovine_spongiform_encephalopathy#History
swine flu is from mexico (possibly asia, but likely mexico) https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/2009_swine_flu_pandemic#History
and if you want to go way back, there are the many viruses that europeans brought to native americans. Native americans has much fewer diseases due to their lack of packing farm animals and people into such dense areas together, its why natives got sick from european disease, but europeans didn't get sick from native disease.

Texas is already one of the worst for new cases and vax rates (presumably because many people weren't following restrictions outside of when they were forced to in public places anyway, as well as generally having a high population); can't get much worse when we're already at the bottom. There won't be any huge spikes because a spike would imply cases were ever particularly low enough for a spike to be noticable.

I live here, I know what it's like. Whether you're impacted has a lot to do with your job, where you live, etc. El Paso for example and most of West Texas had a phase that I think has ended by now where COVID was so overwhelming to local resources that people were forcibly relocated to other hospitals in central Texas because of lack of space and then not even given a way home. It really just depends on where you are locally, but given that cons are always in big cities, huge events like AM or whatever may be a liability and cons will still require masks or have other precautions even if the events occur to save face/reduce liability. Fine if people choose to go to them but it would be nice if those of us who do keep away from people who don't want to risk getting sick and have little choice in going out like "essential workers" and whatnot.

The point of non n-95/high filtration masks is to stop your respiratory particles from being expelled and lingering in the air in the case that you have COVID. They also happen to provide self-protection to a less effective degree than n-95s depending on fabric and fit, but generally they are better at protecting others from you than you from others.

The vaccine does work but if you're not old or high risk you're unlikely to be vaccinated, so that is not relevant in Texas when only like 5% of people are vaccinated and that is concentrated in elderly people with more resources or access to vaccines, so the odds of like, a fast food worker who has to deal with maskless congoers who are hungry being vaccinated are slim, which means even with their own mask they are at risk. That risk could be avoided if someone who goes around maskless to a con choses to simply do drive-thru or curbside orders for example instead of dining in when they can. Not a necessity but voluntarily reducing your risk of infecting others even if you don't want to reduce your own risk of getting sick (which you have the right to do) would reduce cases and get things back to normal faster than a free for all fuck everything get everyone sick and let the weak die approach.

I work from home from a company that pays me far more than $15/hour though? People who want to get paid more for minimum wage are usually people in jobs that they aren't working from home at like fast food workers, grocery store workers, etc. not those with work from home desk jobs so I don't know how you came to any conclusion about my income.

Not sure how paying people for a service because I can't/don't drive has any implication about how well I tip. I worked service and people facing jobs all through college, including at a bar so I know how important tips are and always tip well. A 50 cent tip sounds concerningly low and like only what mean people do to "punish" their waiter. I always tip $10 minimum on anything small/cheap (even when the tip is more than the cost of an item) and at least 25-30% on other things service or delivery related.

That had nothing to do with the point of my post though, I was discussing how I have been staying at home much of the time and getting stuff delivered pre-COVID so my life wasn't really severely impacted by the evil SJW fearmongering the anon I replied to was claiming it was. I also lived in Asia for a while and am surrounded by Asian culture with friends and family, which includes mask wearing when sick/during cold and flu seasons so if anything this shit is just other Americans catching up to how many people already lived.

You've still missed the point of the argument. And it was groceries, my dude. From a grocery store that is walking distance from where I live (less than a mile or 2, I used to walk when I had no job, but now I work so I would rather be one of the few decent tippers and pay someone with a car to drive thst 5 minutes). Sorry I don't drive/can't afford a car I guess? Speaking of which, you can't fuck up my nonexistent car lol.

Point is, sure, open things up but maybe just do the bare minimum to protect those essential workers you clearly agree work pretty hard. Like go to a con if you personally choose but don't breathe potentially a/pre-symptomatic COVID droplets all over your drive through or restaurant worker by just wearing a piece of material over your mouth and nose for the couple minutes it takes to grab your food? I'm not trying to run anyone's life, I just hope those excited for and planning to travel and go to cons to be considerate of people who have less than them/have to serve them.

>>10568878
Tip culture sucks but most delivery people are regular people. Often they have kids, are college students/around my age. Even a few of my friends who were decent people did gig work. I would rather tip "too much" on my weekly grocery orders and make someone's life a bit better in a tough time or tip a lot for my cheap dinner order (when I went out before COVID) so some nice old diner lady has a bit more gas money than tip next to nothing "because capitalism bad". Like yeah people should get paid more upfront and tip culture is fucked, but right now they don't and sometimes you have to operate in the world we live in, not the ideal one we prefer.

Nayrt but damn non Texasfag confirmed. Most places in Texas have HEB and their regular employees shop for the food while the driver just picks it up. I can't imagine getting groceries from a different store right now unless you have a good local one or live in like, El Paso where there are none. Texas is pretty great (for reasons other than prematurely ending the mask mandate) and HEB is one of those great things.

I hope everyone knows none of those companies are progressive at all and are bankrupting many small restaurants during the pandemic. The only ones in my city who are on them are chains, ghost kitchens, super popular ones who can afford the high costs, or super desperate ones hoping they'll get more business. The rest just outright refuse to pay which I agree with. One small business even got listed on doordash without their permission and had to force them to remove them. Based af.

Again, HEB owns Favor which is Texas only I think(?) and they do food deliveries and at the very least are the only service to mandate you tip at least $2--a sad amount for the cost of most food delivery order minimums but literally no other app even makes you leave a tip but them in my area. But I'm not a fan of delivery food most of the time because I can cook well/my fiance and I can just do curbside to get it fresh and support the restaurant directly without the delivery app overhead costs if we are desperate for takeout.

The sad reality is if something makes our lives more convenient short term, it often involves people being exploited, underpaid, etc.

How is maintaining the status quo (having people continue to wear masks) on a local level causing chaos? The only chaos lately was the winter storm, otherwise Texas has been fine with or without masks. Using or not using them will not create chaos.

Not wearing them just means you're not protecting others or yourself as much, but the amount of protection is so varied based on wearing it properly or not and the marerials, and at least 10% of people manage to fuck up just wearing it over their nose anyway so it's not hurting but not helping as much as it could be either.

The most you could to at best is get good sex if you’re lucky to get it consentually.

No, AX orgies don’t count because those are fairy tales that don’t exist(?)

Not the case with the Gaylord. That place has been closed for a goddamn year. No way in hell a 1900+ room hotel will be up and running in two days with all the logistics involved to get it going again.

Rape is very rare at cons, as much as you gals try to say it does. I've been in this scene forever. Yes, Ive heard of allegations, but they all ended up going nowhere cause the guy always had proof that it was consensual through friends saying they were already making out prior to it and her going to their rooms.

Cons are going to be full blown fuckfests due to the amount of pent up loneliness that covid brought on. Standards are going to be in the gutter so anyone can get laid now. Bonus points if you're gay and bi.

Try Dragoncon as it has a heavy LGBT presence. There are plenty of chubs to chase there. The usual apps were jumping when I was there. Also a lot of those dudes at cons are shy and in the closet about it so you sometimes gotta be blunt about what you want.

I guess it's a possibility it could happen. I'm wondering how long the venue will continue to be used as as covid megasite though. They just started using it as such at the beginning of the month.
I wonder what happened with the $35K or whatever in donations they got. I guess it will never be spoken of again, and they'll be laughing all the way to the bank with that.
