I really hope all restrictions get dropped in April or May. In Israel 97% of people who are dying right now are people who didn't want a vaccine. It doesn't make sense for everyone to suffer because somebody didn't want medical treatment.
The US is distributing 1,500,000 doses every day right now so we're on track to have most adults vaccinated in May. I don't see why this would need to continue.

This is COMPLETELY fucking false. We'd need to get 3-4 million people vaccinated per day to get to the herd immunity level by May. That's not going to happen.
Restrictions being dropped in April or May is not a possibility. Best case scenario is the 4th quarter of the year, and even that is wishful thinking.

If you think large or even mid sized conventions are gonna start happening after that first wave, you're going to be sorely disappointed. There will be some easing of restrictions (in the lesser populated states in particular), but it's not going to be anywhere near 'normal'.
It fucking sucks, but that's just the way it's going to be. The notion that there will be some dramatic change in restrictions in the first half of the year is nonsensical as the "no cons until 2024" doomerfag mentality.

I've seen articles about people developing rare blood disorders like autoimmune conditions where their bodies attack their platelets and they brain hemmorage and die. Only supposedly 32 reports, some of which may be repeats, and not all of them died possibly and the ones that are noted as dying are all over 50 or 60. But it's scary because the main issue is people having undiagnosed conditions that would have been signs they should avoid the vaccine because those conditions lead to this blood disorder when given other non COVID vaccines too. It's hard to know if your body has something like that going on when save serious emergencies and COVID a lot of people have been avoiding doctors and hospitals for the better part of a year at this point.

Even if every report of severe complications from the vaccine were 100% true with no caveats and we use the most optimistic COVID numbers this is false. I don't think the vaccine is perfect considering the short time it spent being tested and how it was only approved because this is an emergency situation according to the government, and I think the companies should be required to do further third party testing so we gain more info. But it will hopefully stop healthcare workers and weaker people from dying soon enough for cities to open.

Abbot doesn't target big cities because he gives a shot about opening up or people tho. He has done it forever because he hates Dems and cities tend to vote for Dems which is fair I guess. Austin in particular he is shitty to cause UT is there and he's an Aggie. Even though no one at UT has cared for a while about that retarded rivalry since they don't play football against each other anymore.

Why would that be an issue? Cons and other entities that focus on entertainment especially have every reason to be very cautious and adhere to protective measures like masks or requiring vaccinations to their completely voluntary and optional spaces/events. They have to play it extra safe so they don't become the "super spreader" (I hate that term though) that leads to spikes in cases and ruin future events for others in the same industry by setting a negative example.

I think something like that would be more excessive than just waiting until things pass to have cons again, but I also see why event planners would want to use an abundance of caution

Yes, bait. Every sizeable thread on here has to have at least one "no cons until 2023/4/5" doomerfag, and at least one "online cons are the future" person. Sometimes they're probably the same person.
I realize people like different things and have different opinions, but you can just search online and find literally everything you'd see at an 'online con' at any time.
Want to see a panel? Go look on Youtube.
Want to see art or shop for collectibles? Go look on Deviantart or Etsy.
Wat to see cosplay? Youtube, Instagram, Twitter, etc.
There's also no real money to be made from online cons which is why many of the ones that have cancelled recently aren't bothering to have them. Thus, they aren't sustainable and there's no future in them.
I challenge any of the people that pretend to think online cons are so great to intelligently refute any of those points.
They won't, and if they respond to arguments like those at all, it will amount to something like "you're stupid, kys".

Bigger yes, but better - we'll see. This is probably on me for not being in the cosplay scene (I was a stick until the year before rona started when I finally started working out, but then rona closed the gyms down and undid all my great work), but the past few cons I've been to felt less like going to a convention and more like going to an anime-themed shopping mall. I'm more likely to find recommendations from enthusiasts for shows that I'd enjoy by lurking on this site than by looking at things at cons, and the same goes for "anime-adjacent" hobbies that I have as well. Having said that, swap meets are still fun and just about the only time when I actually talk to strangers at cons, so maybe I'm just doing this whole con thing wrong.

Also what >>10557125 said, we've already lost San Japan and MAGFest to "lack of diversity", and more cons will likely follow their lead. The last A-Kon I went to was the 2018 one before they lost the convention center, and there were so many pride flags everywhere that it felt less like an anime convention and more like a nerd version of a pride parade. I think people should be free to express themselves like that since that's what cons are all about, but if it becomes this much about social justice then it's tempting to just leave the con scene behind altogether as someone going there for anime.

People ages 0-60 have a 99.86% change of recovering. This is based on the numbers in Ontario Canada. People ages 60 and up have 80% recovery. Most of it comes from the ages 80 and up with 60-69 being around 97% recovery. 70-79 at 90% recovery rate.
Covid isn't deadly when looking at raw data. We also seen that the deaths in the US were mostly done in Dem states. NYC has their issues of sending sick people to nursing homes causing a high death toll. Most of the dead are coming form old age homes.
Even when looking at Ontario Canada more then half of the deaths come from nursing/retirement homes. With 95% of all deaths being ages 60 and up.

Yeah, that's true, and a reason for some amount of optimism.
However, I think people are looking at those coronavirus charts, and getting way too optimistic just because of how far things have fallen since we peaked in January.
We still have a long way to go. The decline in cases will fall at a slower and slower rate as time goes on. We may very well see it rise again at some point (certainly nowhere near the peak January levels, though.)
I can't predict the future, but I just don't see any way that mid to large size conventions will happen at full capacity this summer.

Just compare photos from left wing BLM protests to photos of right wing Trump rallies and its extremely obvious which side takes wearing masks seriously and which don't.

Someone people need to get a grip. I saw this exchange on fb:

>“OMG I can’t believe someone I know is going to an anime con happening this April in Ohio when the state opens back up! How inconsiderate!”
>“But the next con in Ohio is Colossal in June?”
>“Well no, but the state is reopening up a tiny bit in April!”

So you’re upset that someone is going to an anime con in Ohio in April when the state is gonna open back up but there are no cons happening there in April and the state may only relax restrictions a tiny bit?

Stop listening to losers. They're just virtue signalling and getting their rocks off in trying to feel superior. Those fools will sooner throw their values away if society tells them its okay to no longer care about covid. They're two faced losers with no values of their own. Stop listening to idiots.

I think the main problem is not covid, it's that the con admin are naturally not risk takers and further will follow whatever the government tells them what to do. Which is funny cause our scene, including the music scene, are suppose to be naturally against whatever the normies care about. Instead of being inside, we should all be defying orders left and right with open protests and doing whatever you want. I never seen youth so scared in my entire life. Youth usually went against the grain and took risks.
