this is just not correct. old school is about styling yourself like the fashion was in that era. just as 2010s sweet has a distinct look that some pieces today mimic, old school is the same.

Any advice for restoring AP lace? One KC I'm considering purchasing is yellowed to hell (both the fabric and lace) and a different dress I bought has both faded lace on it as well as places where the red print on the dress seems to have bled into the lace. >>10543754
It depends on what looks weird.

I've noticed that some blouses look really bad around the armpit + sideboob area, depending on how they squish under the shirring. You can play with your blouse in the mirror and adjust how it's sitting under the dress (like pulling extra fabric to the front/back) to see what looks good.

If it's sitting weird around your waist, you could try shapewear to give more firmness for the shirring to rest against. You could also try a slip (like pic rel) over your petti to help the dress glide more nicely over your undergarments and avoid weird bunching.

>> No.10543771

>>10543768
The best option is to be small enough that you don't stretch out the shirring at all. Your second best option is to wear a corset or similar stiff structural undergarment so the shirring has a rigid shape to conform to rather than body fat, which it can and will squeeze into weird shapes.

( if the picture is too bad in quality I can upload it in multiple part )
The idea of doing a collage was great ! I don't really have a dream dress, I guess maybe the jane marple screen printed skirt since I find it especially stunning.
The last vertical row on the right are dresses which I like the design/ print but not the color.

I do like navy and navy X white, cream or gold but I didn't find many pictures of dress in this color way, the only brand accesories I own are in this color.
I like tongue and cheek design very much, even tought they seem to be more in sweet styles in general. I also like green, especially in velvet but it's less common and I don't really like it paired with a lot of colors. I noticed too that I really like gobelin but not really with a darker brown background.

I saw the brown pintuck meta dress on the 6 th vertical row ( left to right ) in black but I don't really know if it's a good idea to get it since I don't know if items I will get to coord it could also work also with black X white or red main pieces.

>> No.10544699

>>10544693
Some of these dresses are really random in this collage, lol. You have a bunch of classic and then you have Puppet Circus and Girly Leopard...anyway, if you're really set on buying from Europe, you should probably just stalk the secondhand market until you see something you like.

>> No.10544719 [DELETED]

>> No.10544735

I disagree with >>10544699, I think it's relatively straightforward.
Anon likes nature themes and has a weak spot for leopard prints and all-over smaller florals. She prefers earthy tones (browns, reds, greens). I would say anon is a(n old-school) sweet lolita. The MM OP is definitely on the sweeter side and Rococo Bouquet has often been coorded in a sweeter style as well. If anon was a classic lolita, I think she would have picked more of IW's clothes over Meta's.

>>10544693
I'm none of the anons you responded to, but I think most people thought of a majority VM/MM/IW wardrobe when you said "Classic lolita". Looking at your style now, it's no wonder you were having a hard time finding things on the second hand market. I did a quick search and couldn't find anything in Europe that I thought you might like. However, if you're willing to look at Asia, I think there are 2 dresses from Singapore that you might like.

>I saw the brown pintuck meta dress [...] I don't really know if it's a good idea to get it since I don't know if items I will get to coord it could also work also with black X white or red main pieces.
I agree with you on this. I do think black can work in a more old school styling, but that's probably something to explore as your wardrobe grows. I think you should focus on brown accessories and blouses in the meantime. Are you determined to wear lolita or are you buying your first dress to test the waters? If you have your heart set on lolita, you can consider looking for accessories that will match your outfit. (Blouses will be more difficult to buy without a main piece in mind.) This will give you something to do as you wait for a dress you like to pop up. You can make a capsule wardrobe to get a better sense of your style.

If you haven't, you might want to join EU lolita sale groups on Facebook. Sometimes people don't put their dresses up on Lacemarket because they don't feel it's worth the effort. If you ask around your local comm, who knows, maybe someone knows someone who has something you like. Good luck, anon!

Where I can get flat platform mary janes that aren't hard pleather or make my feet hurt like hell? I have Bodyline shoes with heels that make my toes hurt a lot and I cannot wear narrow mary janes or something because my big toe is too big lol, I cannot buy a size up because my feet are average sized not long or wide, just very sensitive to hard fake or real leather, to any type of heels except boots and shoes that are too narrow on the front.
Usually as non lolita shoes I use mostly boots, oxford with platform or flatform sandals that are high because I cannot wear fancy heeled shoes most of the time, I hate flat heeled shoes, only platform shoes or heels that are super confy even for super sensitive feet like mine.
T.U.K. shoes or Dr. Martens maryjanes are a good idea or it's just wasted money? They usually have flat platform or they aren't super flat as normal lolita low heeles shoes and have roomy front for my toes, they should be confy right?
I don't wear classic only toned down/casual sweet like salopettes, gothic lolita that is old school or very plain.

I would say in most cases, AP is very good at details - custom lace, detailed prints, pockets, etc That said, a lot of their pieces are polyester and has delicate details so if you take care of them, they will last a while.

I can also confirm that Meta's pieces are built to last and with the amount of detachables, made for building lots of different coords and looks.

I personally think Baby and AATP has gone down a bit in quality, but it also depends on when it was released. Keep in mind though that Baby is a bigger company, so their production is scaled up more than Meta and AP.

I don't have experience with MMM, but Innocent World has great blouses. May require a bit of extra care, but they are very nice quality.

Absolutely not AP, lol. If we're talking about only newer items and from currently operating lolita brands I would say the best current quality is Victorian Maiden, followed by some of the gothic brands like Boz and Sheglit, then Meta, Moitie, Baby's more oldschool/cotton releases, AP, Baby 'trend' releases, with AATP and IW last. I'm ordering this by material and crafstmanship quality, as you said.

VM's materials and craftsmanship have never wavered, in all the time I've been buying from them I've never gotten an item I was disappointed with the quality of anything (I've bought dresses, blouses, hair accessories). I can't say that for any of the other brands I listed.

>>10545513
Agreed, but for all brands

>>10545473
I think it's fair to expect proper communication from a seller. It's not on you to 'assume' and 'hope' the item you paid for has been sent out. If you can't get ahold of the seller and can't confirm your item has been sent out, you are well within your rights to escalate after a few weeks of silence.

I want to get into classic lolita, particularly classic lolita, and I was wondering how accessible are brands like Mary Magdelene for a beginner? It seems like mary Magdelene's dresses are sold less in comparison to something like AP

>> No.10545587

>>10545585
Mary Magdelene has been closed for a few years, although they supposedly plan to open up again. Personally, I'm not holding my breath, but that means that not only are they not currently producing items, but anyone that owns MM pieces will likely be less willing to give them up.

So you're right, they don't come up often on the market anymore. Depending on what you're looking for exactly, JetJ and Victorian Maiden are both still active and I would say VM comes up for sale a little more often than JetJ. Also they come up for sale much more often on the Japanese market than the western one, in my experience, so learning to stalk the secondhand sites will be beneficial to you.

Sorry for the late reply, and thank you so much for your long answer !

It's rather true that I like older sweet style, I guess I thinked it was more classic because of the colorway ( and I learned about lolita during the OTT sweet era ). I do like MM but I have a big ribcage so I thought it was silly to put a lot of it in the collage...

Thank you for your advice on the black dress. I already wear some j-fashion so lolita doesn't seem to be too out there for me but I will not be able to wear it daily, so I'm looking for a lolita wardrobe I can grow slowly with pieces I can make cohesive coords of. Maybe when I get more experience I will get main pieces in more daring colorway as long as I can make their matching blouse/accesories work with my non lolita wardrobe.

I didn't thinked about looking for accesories, I will also look into capsule wardrobe, I've heard a bit about it and it seem interesting for lolita !

To be frank I didn't dared to go in sales groups since I don't already wear lolita/ publicly seem to like jfashion, and wasn't sure if it was bad etiquette.

It's very kind of you to have linked the 2 dresses, I'm still a bit scared of ordering from outside of Europe but I will see after looking in facebook sales groups.

Sorry for the long answer and bad english.

Was going to reply and suggest exactly this. Clincal strength deodorant that you can buy at any pharmacy/market works great. I still apply some deodorant in the AM for the nice smells, but the clinical stuff really stops any sweating.

Also, you may need to switch up the brand of clinical strength deo every few months, since your underarm biome can get used a certain aluminum compound. Switching to another brand with a slightly different formulation of aluminum works if that happens.

Finally, avoid Certain Dri. While that brand will prevent me from sweating for 72 hours straight in the middle of summer, it makes my underarms feel like a dragon is torturing my pits. I think it must be meant for dudes or ladies who don't shave their pits.

Brand doesn't automatically make the outfit lolita. That said, I think this is an ok casual coord to wear out.

If you're posting to get concrit, I don't see a problem with it. But otherwise, if you're worried about being seen as "ita", I would be cautious. There's plenty of things to nitpick on, like the pinks clashing and the chunky jk shoes.. etc. so if you're feeling sensitive, don't bother. Just enjoy your clothes.

That sounds more of a problem with those people posting photos, than it is a problem with you. So yes, I think it's a fine idea to hide the ita thread if you can't stomach it. It's mostly to laugh at anyways.

Loafers are okay, it's just those ones are more associated with the jk style than lolita. There are some loliable loafers from axes femme and amavel at times. You could also invest in shoe clips to make shoes look more "lolita".
If you're not a fan of mary janes, you could look into boots or oxfords (if you're wearing classic) instead. Vintage shoes are often an option too.

Unfortunately if you don't like petticoats, I don't have much advice. Lolita has a very particular silhouette (except a few oldschool styles) that has to be achieved by petticoats or cage skirts. Sure, you can wear the skirt without a petticoat, but it won't look lolita, and will look "off". I suggest looking into otome style instead?

>> No.10547886

>>10547857
>>10547868

If you want to go petticoatless, the usual is do it with longer/tea-length dresses/skirts that don't have much poof to them in the first place. Since people don't expect them to be poofy, it's less obvious when there isn't a petticoat. So this part would be pretty easy to do with IW or Moitie, for sweet there's some specific Baby/aatp long dresses that are low poof.

All of these brands would be a complete departure from the style you posted, though.

For AP and Meta in particular, they usually use a lot of fabric in their skirts. If you don't use a petticoat, it just looks like a lump of fabric around your legs, that's why it usually looks like crap, no matter what your intentions were. And that's probably why people don't wear them that way.

For non-maryjane shoes, I'd just go with the plainest normie pair of shoes rather than the pair you posted. It's not because they're loafers, they just don't really look loliable.

AP dress pockets aren't small but they aren't huge comoared to other normie dress pockets either tho.

But in response to anons question I think the pochettes hold more than the rucksacks because the head and limbs are the only stuffed part and the body is empty but it opens at the head so you get the full length of the pochette, while for rucksacks the body is stuffed too and the stuffing means you kind of have to squish things a bit to get them to fit with all the cushion and padding in there despite the pocket being a reasonable size.

Even the most normie of lolita blouses have higher quality and more detail than office blouses and it's painfully obvious you've never handled a brand blouse in person. They're also cut differently, to conform with the natural waist and be shorter than typical blouses to look smoother under JSKs and for easy wearing with petticoats and bloomers. Even long sleeves typically have a slight puff at the shoulder. Collar is fitted close to the neck rather than loose and always buttons all the way up.

Non-lolita blouses really only work when they come from vintage fashion or other jfashion, but newfags always fuck that up because they're never worn burando and think all blouses is the same. Taobao blouses work in a pinch but material is often shit.

what other anons have said already. office blouses, even ones that look loliable like pic related (from aliexpress) aren't structured enough.but many noobs would probably not understand the difference. lolita feminine and "normie" feminine are completely different.

>> No.10548520

>>10548491
It's all about the details, anon. Even lolita blouses that lack lace and frills have other details to distinguish them from a bog-standard white oxford button-down.

>different sleeves
Obviously officewear doesn't have hime sleeves or puffy cap sleeves, or shirring details, but even simple long-sleeved blouses are distinct in cut. Most lolita blouses have puffier sleeves than an office blouse, either around the shoulder or cuff or both. Almost all of them have some sort of ruffle or frill at the cuff. Even the most plain lolita blouses I could find had some sort of wrist ruffles or lace.

>different collars
Brands don't release blouses with plain pointed collars. Blouses have either high necks or peter pan collars, as a general rule. For styles with pointed collars, they're generally much larger (like exaggerated bat wings) or else have some sort of lace or embellishment.

>different bodice cuts
Because brands generally take a one-size-fits-all approach, there's really only four basic bodice cuts in lolita. There's poofy fully-shirred bodice ones (ex: Meta's Square Neck Shirring Blouse), loose fitting square/sack blouses (ex: MmM's Paisley Bat Collar Blouse, AP's Holy Ribbon Blouse and Lovely De Chine Blouse), and blouses that use flexible elements like shirring, corset lacing, or waist-ties to help create shape (ex: AtePie's Lumiere Blouse, Baby's Princess Manon Blouse).

And the least common is blouses that have no shirring or waist ties, and rely on tailoring to create a slim feminine shape. Office wear only takes this 4th approach, while it's fairly uncommon in lolita.

The other major bodice cut difference is hem length and style. Lolita blouses generally hit near the natural waist and many are designed to be worn untucked. Normie blouses are much longer.

>all the other details
Pintucks, buttons, ribbons, embroidery, lace, bows, prints, special fabric, etc.

>> No.10550310

There's been cgl meetups at conventions, but there's not really a need for one outside of that, those are just regular lolita meets

I see, then what types of brand skirts could be worn without petti if any? How should the shape look?
I know i could just buy etc or milk but there’s always something wonky with their prints.
I have pic related and it looks nice i think without petti? but i’m down to branch out beyond ap miniskirts

Moitie released a paisley version of their bat collar blouse recently. But it only came in Men's size, so I'm not sure if anyone has made it work in a lolita coordinate.

even picrel would look better with some kind of poof. the fairy kei/leg avenue kind of pettis work cutely for casual/otome imo

I’m the weirdo anon who doesn’t like pettis

i’m not even going for a j fash/cgl look at this point anymore i guess. but I still want to look cute and wear the skirts appropriately.

>why buy brand even
I am short jp size and like the cute prints. And i want to experiment

Pic rel is how i usually style it with some mary janes if that helps

petticoats don't have to be huge and annoying, just having something under a skirt so it doesn't stick or go inbetween your legs when you walk. i have a shitty hot topic petti i use as more of a slip than for poof.

Where can I find good content about handmade lolita pieces? Besides the handmade thread and that Facebook group by MCB, I cannot find it anywhere.

Actually that makes sense. I didnt think about the skirt going between your legs thing. Since i like the op dog skirt so much, i will get a shitty thin petticoat from somewhere

just make sure the material is nice and soft so it doesn't irritate your legs. Maybe even just looking into normie vintage stuff to find something more like a slip with crinoline at the bottom to suit your needs?

why don't you just wear mori?

>> No.10550415

>>10550296
You could wear it without a petticoat, but without the poof to flare out the skirt, you might not be able to see the full design. (Which may defeat the purpose if you like the dogs.)

>>10550403
I know this is the stupid questions thread and all but mori really doesn't look anything like casual otome or whatever anon is describing above and you probably shouldn't be giving fashion advice

I hear a ton of people here talk about how much they hate underskirts/how bad they look... but I'm rather tall, and a bunch of the pieces I like are a bit too short on me. How can I include an underskirt and make it not look like shit?

>> No.10550506

>>10550498
I'm 171cm, they're better received now than they were a decade ago

I bought black & white skirts from taobao, just try to make your underskirt line up with the hem of your dress to make it blend as much as possible. Get colors to match. Try not to mix ivory and white unless it works with your coord

>> No.10550525

>>10550498
The issue with underskirts is that they often dont actually fit the skirt of the dress. Go back and look at the oot classic outfits from years ago, you will see that the length got longer but the underskirts usually just hung down and there is a gap between the 2 pieces. It looks like a lampshade. It also only is good for adding maybe an inch or 2 more, it isnt going to work if it is any longer.

Also showing leg is nice, you should own that leggy.

>> No.10550539

>>10550498
>>10550525
I totally agree with this advice; I think the upper limit to how many layers of ruffles you can get away with adding is 3 and no more, but it really only looks good when it's fewer, less detectable.

It looks fine, but you aren't going to have much in the way of lolita. You could pull off AP miniskirt, and you could maybe pull off salopettes if you hate petticoats, otherwise the skirt is going to look like shit.

You could try nanchette.

Most lolita brand's skirts, outside the occasional miniskirt, will look weird, wrinkly, and flat without the petticoat because they're kind of designed like poodle skirts.

>> No.10550635

>>10550305
There's no real need, especially not with j-fash. /cgl/ has had meetups in the past, but they are usually only cosplayers at conventions. There's no real need for a /cgl/ meetup because most in the fashion know each other on other social media and chat sites.

cc ships via DHL. there's a lower flat rate for <2kg and a higher flat rate for 2-4kg. you can find the page that specifies the rates or put some heavy shit like shoes in your cart to see the shipping price change. sometimes their weight estimates are just estimates and you pay for the <2kg shipping but then they send you a second invoice for the difference of the more expensive shipping.

Seconding this. A few times I tried wearing lolita dresses casually without a petticoat and it looked godawful, I had to put at least a small petti on. Some few brands might be okay without, like JetJ is sometimes okay, but if you're looking at AP, you really need a petti unless it's a miniskirt or salopette like the person I'm replying to said

>> No.10551371

>>10550423
How do you feel about salopettes? A lot of the sweet themed prints have salopettes and many of them don’t need a petti and are a non-lolita cut but a lolita print

Do work overknees from Jane Marple, ETC, Pink House and similar lesser used brands for bigger calves?
I have no problems with AP, IW and Meta but with Heart E and Baby (pre 2010). I recently bought from Enchanted Dreamwear which also barely fit. I owned AP replicas too and there were also not very flexible.

I appreciate every suggestion.
