I think chubby people look fine in lolita (it's pretty flattering honestly) but it is harder to find burando that fits and looks good the fatter you are. Being short is helpful, but there are ways around the sizing for tallitas such as underskirts. It's more work, but definitely possible.

To add to the conversation regarding EGL, it's the main reason that finally got me to consistently work out to lose weight. And yes, just for all the deniers, the ita threads have helped with that. I wanted to fit into burando and I didn't want to end up looking like a sausage wearing it. I've walked much more and eaten more healthily aswell; I feel like I got to know my body much better and am listening to what it needs now instead of just eating what's easy and available. Even with lots of snacking, I lost enough to be considered normal weight now. 5kg left - thank you, gulls!

Negative reinforcement doesn't work for everyone.
