Now that it's starting to get cold again with brands releasing coats, let's discuss current releases and the best ways to stay warm and dry

Thoughts on different brands?
>AP, baby, meta, VM, MM, Nile Perch, Taobao ect
Are brand coats worth full price? Who makes the warmest ones?
>Full length, jackets, capes

Recommendations on lolita friendly accessories, such as snow boots, winter legwear, hats+gloves ect

Favourite winter prints/coords (yet to get any ap winter releases shown, other than Toy Museum, which isn't very winter themed)

>Thoughts on different brands?
MM has the best coats, hands down. I ordered one during their reservations and I’m keeping my fingers crossed everything goes well. I like BABY’s coats a lot too.
>Are brand coats worth full price? Who makes the warmest ones?
Yes especially Mary Magdalene. They hold up well and they’re warm. I prefer long coats but capes are warm too.
>Recommendations on lolita friendly accessories, such as snow boots, winter legwear, hats+gloves ect
I buy fleece lined tights and fur trimmed boots, usually from a local boutique. I recommend checking your own independent boutiques if you can.
>Favourite winter prints/coords (yet to get any ap winter releases shown, other than Toy Museum, which isn't very winter themed)
I always love BABY’s Christmas prints though they don’t seem to make them anymore. I’ll probably buy one of AP’s winter/Christmas print.

I've heard Mary Magdalene makes the warmest coats overall, but they're a classic brand. I would love to know which brand makes the warmest sweet coat.

I love nile perch's latest scarves, they're ¥13,200 each which is too much for me to justify, but they'd look perfect with more ott sweet coords. I'm also just weak for anything with sparkly gems on kek

I bought some of uniqlos heattech stuff in warm, extra warm and ultra warm and gotta say that I really like them for layering underneath OPs and blouses without adding too much extra bulk. I also got me a down jacket from their air collection and it's really light, I can even wear it underneath my coat for extra warmth and insulation. I'm currently looking for a sweet short coat but haven't had any luck so far. It's either gone too quickly, has some damage or there's something about the design that's throwing me off. I'm not even quite sure what kinda design I want baka

>Thoughts on different brands?
MM hands down is the best. I have a VM short coat but that's more for fall weather/weak ass southern winters. I've worn MM in -20 F weather with relatively little difficulty as well as blizzards.
>Are brand coats worth full price? Who makes the warmest ones?
MM is, but honestly you can also camp on CC and get a coat for relatively cheap. I don't think I could recommend with confidence other brand coats at full price
>Full length, jackets, capes
Full length for winter, short coats can be for 20-30F, cloaks really should be reserved for above freezing.
>Recommendations on lolita friendly accessories, such as snow boots, winter legwear, hats+gloves ect
Layer, layer, layer. Get a pair of uniqlo heattech stockings, a liner for weather colder than -20F, and turtlenecks to layer under your favorite high collar blouse. I have worn a bolero+jacket+coat for very cold weather. Gloves are also very key but axes femme has cute gloves for a cheaper price.
>Favourite winter prints/coords (yet to get any ap winter releases shown, other than Toy Museum, which isn't very winter themed)
Fanny Rosie has always been a winter inspiration for me! I'm not too much into prints, but anything depressing and dark academia (like library prints and tartan) tend to be used more during winter.

I have one coat from Baby, another on the way, and am thinking of buying a third. All from Baby.
>Are brand coats worth full price? Who makes the warmest ones?
They're worth it to me because I like them. I can't vouch for if you'll survive a snowstorm in them because winter is really mild here but I like wearing coats to feel snuggly.
>Recommendations on lolita friendly accessories
I think the mittens that have a string you hang behind your collar so you don't lose them is really cute. Especially the crocheted bunny ones Baby did years and years ago. I guess a modern version would have the flip-top so you can still use your phone.

I have several coats Ftom AP, Baby, and Meta. One of my AP coats is from 2002 and it’s so warm I overheat. My other two are from 2008 and 2012 and they get progressively thinner. The one from 2012 is my worst (thinnest) of all my coats. But my AP cape from 2013 is pretty legit. Baby and meta coats are both about 6 years old and they’re alright. Not the worst but not the best. All in all I think costs I’ve tried on ir felt from the past few years seem way thinner than my old school ones, but that’s all their clothing in general. The sweet brands aren’t using thick fabrics anymore.

>Are brand coats worth full price?
I’ve never paid more than $60 for a coat so I guess I’d say no. But I think they’re crucial to coords in the winter and someone’s gotta buy them new. I’m just glad it’s not me

>> No.10498735

This doesn't make sense to me, I live in extreme cold also and the parts where your leg is exposed right over the boot (like in the Fanny Rosie picture) will get raw and frostbitten since it's only a sock or 2 layers of socks. If it's not cold enough that your legs don't need snow pants then you don't need this down jacket. Also, even though I like Baroque, it just looks stupid compared to the beautiful MM-type coats. This is the only time you can wear those beautiful thick fabrics and the down looks really dumb comparatively

Not true at all.

You just need a real wool one and you have to wear other appropriate clothes (meaning, REAL fur-lined gloves and boots not some cheap synthetic shit, a proper hat + ear muffs, wool scarf, and so on). I've worn my MM coat at -30°C and colder many times and it's always been plenty warm.

Even snow storms aren't a problem, bc wool still insulates even if it gets wet, unlike most materials.

MM is solid because their coats are usually 50% wool and 50% angora. Older VM can be either 100% wool or 65/35 wool angora from what I’ve seen. Newer coats have the same problems that newer sweet does with mixed synthetics. LG, ETC and JM can have 100% wool coats too. And I think only MMM ventures into cashmere territory. The reason sweet brands don't get touted as aggressively is because they mix poly/nylon/other materials in, and that reduces the effectiveness of the coat. It's much more important to look at the material makeup of the coat than the brand.

>full price
Eh, questionable. I’ve had a lot of luck with cheap MM and VM coats on the secondhand market but I have paid full price for them in the past. For the lone coat on my wishlist I’d probably pay full price just to get the headache of searching for it over and done with.

Best coats I've owned over the years are MM and MmM, Boz was meh
>Are brand coats worth full price? Who makes the warmest ones?
I've never paid full price, but I've bought coats that retailed at 60k yen - 80k seconhand between 60 - 280€ which I think is worth it. For me it's full length coats and maybe capes on top for layering.
>Recommendations on lolita friendly accessories, such as snow boots, winter legwear, hats+gloves ect
Finding black leather boots isn't hard in my country, last couple of years there's always been some pastel available, especially for size EU 38 and below since children's department is available then. For gloves etc I've bought secondhand brand, axes femme and in local stores with small frills and bows on.

I'm tempted by this coat from Sheglit. It's 50% wool, 50% polyester.
