No, but.

I have repeatedly told people here to just wear what they want and what makes them happy. And I think it's still true. I didn't really get into nanchatte until I was 25, and then really ramped up my wardrobe at 29. But I just had my second kid and gained a bunch of weight and now all these insecurities are actually starting to get to me. For now none of my clothes fit me but as I lose weight over the next 6-12 months, what then? Where do I wear it, and what point should I I care about normies think? The ideal answer should be "never" but it still bothers me. I guess one solution would be to pick more mature looking styles or integrate nanchatte pieces in with more normie clothes. I think I have plenty more use left out of my nanchatte things.

Sorry for the blog there. To kinda bring it back and really answer your question, I think that depends entirely on you. Yes it is a youthful style but I think you can adapt it in a way that suits your personal style, your body, and your face (as applicable). If you like the clothes I think you should go ahead and buy them. Be a kawaii old lady if need be, who cares.

if you're feeling self conscious about your age, instead of sailor collars and short pleated skirts go for things like blazers and cardigans and longer plaid skirts, or even plaid pants.

I would just avoid super mini skirts and focus more work casual oriented blazers and jackets

keep things fitted but not tight, avoid cheap looking items, and you shouldn't run into any issues

pic related for general ideas for shape and sillouettes, obviously these aren't quite "nanchatte", so jazz it up in the details and accessories
loose sweater vests in particular are coming in on the normie trends for winter

梗豆KYOUKO制服馆 is a fairly good store to start with on Taobao. Their prices are reasonable and they have a pretty big range from western to sailor styles. They also have an ongoing collaboration with Sanrio if you're into that.

One thing to note when buying from Taobao is to check whether the item is "in stock" or on preorder. If it's on preorder the price could be the down payment and you'll be expected to pay off the rest at a later date.

AYRT, I'm from a famous UK university town and am now an academic myself so I've also always been surrounded by the battered-tweed-and-tartan look. When I go home it's great to pop into the second-hand shops as I usually buy up pre-1970s school blazers and boating jackets. This is why I was glad when I first found out about "dark academia" but as I said earlier I do find it a bit cringey. I love nanchatte and wish to combine it for my relaxed looks when I'm not in lolita. Even in lolita I find my style slowly turning into a more "tweedy-otome" look.

also i am that same anon who posted the bodyline haul.. which arrived super fast!! the 30 dollar shipping is totally worth it. a few things about the items

the cardigans are a heavy sturdy knit much better than uniqlo's paper thin cardigans plus there's functioning pockets. gives your body a perfect boxy silhouette while still being slimming.

the vest is quite thin, feels delicate. i guess theres a reason it was only 1100 yen. But the silhouette is the correct boxy shape when put on which is important.

bows are detailed and have adjustable length. keep their shape very well.

loafers are cute .. but tight!! luckily i dont have potato feet lol or else i dont think i couldve got them on. go up a size if you have wide feet is my advice.

for a starter nanchatte wardrobe bodyline is pretty decent! waaaaaaaayyy more affordable than say, conomi.

when i have decent lighting in my room (need sunlight for clear pics) ill post a vest coord 4 u anon!

Why not just lose a bit more weight? You're tall already so 200lbs isn't an awful starting point to work down from at your height. Measurements are really more important than weight though of course. I think Hard Candy was a taobao brand with plus sized nanchatte stuff .

No, and a lot of styles with a longer skirt sans bowtie would look smart in a lot of professional situations. With the skirt hiked up, it's more fun and fresh for casual wear.

Almost all of these, minus the bow in some which does look collegiate, would honestly just be assumed to be an office worker except by those familiar with the style.

That's some of the best place to buy nachette if you can afford it. Most your major brands, like Gucci, make items for school uniforms. Rich people buy them. There's just very few private schools outside Japan, and more and more are forgoing the skirt/blazer combo for a modern unisex dress code.

Most wearing the style whether for fun or because it's their actual dress code cannot afford Gucci, anon.

Tell her that you think the outfits are nice, and you'd appreciate her wearing them. Explain that you just don't like actual school girls.

I'm excited everyone, got this beautiful Eastboy duffle on seamail right now. Heard about eastboy from this thread and wanted to be more nanchatte, plus I needed a thicker coat.
Now I just need to get cute socks and loafers !

How do I start wearing nanchatte as a future elementary school teacher?

>> No.10557934

>>10498872
The good thing about this style is that it involves things pretty much everyone has in their closet and that it covers wide levels of taste and aesthetics. Even finding more unique items like neckwear or loafers doesn't take too much effort or money.

If you already have button-ups, blazers, and pleated skirts then you're pretty much there. Just don't add too much plaid if you're really don't wan't questions.

You may have to wear longer skirts (like knee-length) and tights to make it more work-appropriate, but other than that it's very feasible since it's an academic style.

we really need a resource document for stores because people asking over and over again is tiring. didn't we have a list at some point?

There's this https://pastebin.com/x80V1hTK
but it's quite outdated. I think it's mostly focused on Japanese shops too.

Focusing on the few well known Japanese shops is probably the way to go. There's so many stores on taobao now and so many that are replica/low-quality it's going to take significant effort to make a good list ugh

>>10562949
I agree, especially since I came to this thread precisely to inquire about western shops! Otherwise there ought to be a copy pasta format for every thread, including editions or a link to the archive, so that it's easier to refer to older posts and prevent repeating old news.

I used to teach preschool. Those all look very cute and wearable as a teacher except maybe the shorts. Be aware that elementary school can get messy, so you’re better off wearing things that are washable.

Any ideas for rainproof jackets that look cute with nanchatte? I have a duffle coat but it only really works with snow and light rain.

What is it about nanchatte that makes it so appealing for everyone?
For me, I think it was growing up with ugly uniforms/ dress code in public American schools. Seeing cute uniforms on anime characters as a kid, especially Sailor collar uniforms, Ive found them to be very cute.

It's put together (very easy to coordinate, most blazers go with any skirt pattern, button ups go with everything, etc.) but still feels creative/unique since it's not a common style and there is a variety of accessories. Compared to some other fashions I like (like lolita), nanchatte is way easier to put together and feels very "complete" as a look

>> No.10584753

On top of being cute, it's also super comfy (imo at least) and easy to put on for everyday wear.

>> No.10584759

It's a preppy style and preppy is equated to wealth/status, a good uniform is purposefully made to be flattering on just about any body type, the anime bleed-in that gave birth to thousands of new uniform types and presented an idealized school experience
