10449407 No.10449407 [Reply] [Original]

I'm a guy. A huge, tall, wide, hairy big boi who lifts heavy metal plates and punches other burly guys in a ring. I only wear black tank tops (got about 20 of them) and sport legwear everywhere I go. I don't even own other clothes since my job is also in a gym. Every clothing I own is some sort of sports clothing.

But I want to dress fancy as fuck. I saw someone post this pic in an Ideals thread on /fit/ and it piqued my interest.
Or something similar to this. Basically the male version of lolita.

Where the hell do I even begin, if it's something I haven absolutely and utterly ZERO experience with and knowledge of? Like, so I google (lolita clothes for men" ? I'm not even american, don't suggest american brands or shops please, thank you.

This.. isn't really the mail version of lolita. If you are interested in the male version of lolita, called ouji, there is a thread for it. I do see bigger guys ask for advice there, so they might be able to help

Well I'm 193 cm which is 6 foot 3 in amerimeters, and quite heavy at 105 kg or 231 lbs in amerikilograms, so that would make me a literal giant.
Is there even a hope for me? I don't want to be "the big sports guy" all my life. I want to be fabulous and fancy as fuck.

>>10449412
I don't know what fits where, that's why I said I have actual zero experience with this. I see fancy frills and colors and I think lolita. Simple as.
I'll check the thread you mentioned, thanks, maybe I'll get something out of it.

Just a question, where do you usually buy clothes? For sports attire it's easy (since you barely need more than 3 pieces at any one time)
By the way there's a guy and his wife I follow on instagram, and the guy looks fabulous as fuck. They're american and with any americans I usually talked, all their advice and suggestions are alien to my ears.
Not sure if I should DM them,

Yeah, even if you don't fit into asian sizing, you can look for similar silhouettes in american clothing. You could also commission custom statement pieces from seamstresses, or ask them to upsize something if possible, or look for American-made Japanese-inspired fashion. Honestly, you could dip into medevial fashion for flouncy shirts and such and blend them into your base fashion. Again, capturing the silhouettes/details is the most important thing.

>all their advice and suggestions are alien to my ears.
Why is that? What are they suggesting that doesn't make sense?

OP if you haven't sift through the thread for the right thing, the answer is Ouji or Aristocrat. Be warned that this fashion is fairly expensive for good pieces and you'll have to learn how to take care of your clothes. No just throwing them around the house, actually hang your shit up and pay attention to how you wash.

Get yourself some measuring tape and measure your bust, waist, shoulders, hips, etc. in cm because a lot of what you are going to buy is going to be made for Asian bodies and you want your shit to fit. If not, you may have to look into a tailor.

I for one, welcome any man that actually wants to put effort into how he looks. Remember basic hygiene, properly cut hair and beard, maybe pick up some no-makeup makeup skills. YouTube helps.

I'm not home right now and I don't have my laptop, but I'll get back tomorrow. If you're still around I'll post my discord in this thread. Legit willing to get into this.

One last question. What am I going to do with the style? I am very utilitarian. Dress lightly, go to the gym/work/running/camping, get back, throw clothes in the wash machine, done.
All I want is to be outrageous and fabulous but I don't know where to take it. I guess I could dress up once a week or so and go to a coffee shop in order to work on my novel, as opposed to just writing at home as I normally would. Or dress up when I go to church, as opposed to my normal shirt and suit. When you guys dress up, for what purpose do you dress up?

Those clothes cannot be used for /out/. They are as hard to wash as a suit jacket.

I would tell you to take a look at the japanese brands Alice and the Pirates, Atelier Boz or Metamorphose, but they are made for the very small japanese men (shirt size S or 1).

Instead look for a brand named Fanplusfriend. They are american and do custom sizes.

If you are daring enough and have more or less an idea of what you want, you can order them comissioned at the brand Glittertale. They do comissioned custom designs and custom sizing as well. Maybe they can even make something appropriate for /out/.

This shop and others like it are taobao resellers. If you can learn how to use a shopping service, you can buy from taobao directly a whole lot cheaper (there is a taobao thread in the catalog). Always check the available sizes less you end up looking like this guy.
>>10448920
Join an ouji or even a lolita group and ask for coord help. Try putting together the images first before you buy.

As for where to wear this stuff, try wearing it around your house first to get used to it. You can wear it out to a cafe, shopping, museum, parks etc. and if we weren't in a pandemic right now you could find meetups where you can hang around others that like the fashion. I highly, HIGHLY suggest googling and YouTube videos on beginners for this fashion, the culture, and how to respond to people in public questioning your choices. I'm not a man so I don't know the male side, but I assume it's similar experiences save for like, people randomly flipping your dress or think you're part of some fetish group. I've never seen an ouji or Male lolita in my entire life. I guess you have to live within those circles, but once upon a time I knew a girl who was really into lolita fashion. She was pretty much the only one I've ever seen wearing these type of clothes outside the internet.
I kinda forgot that this fashion existed until I stumbled randomly on a picture of a guy who burned his blue jeans and has never worn jeans since. It really hit me because I find blue jeans to be the most insulting type of clothing in existence. I pretty much haven't worn a pair of jeans in a decade.

That's kinda why I made this thread. I find most types of clothes so damn ugly. Gym wear is nice and useful, light weight and easy to wear and wash but it's so ugly it screams.

I wear lolita daily and I do get tons of compliments, a few people making fun of me or calling me something dumb, but I just ignore the haters and do my thing. So really, you can dress however intricately you want, wherever you want. You just have to deal with the consequences of your choices, but for me, a taller woman who wears lolita, those consequences are dealing with people coming up and saying how they love my outfit. Most people say they wish they had the guts/balls to dress how they want to dress, and that I look pretty/cool/beautiful/etc, so becomes encouraging. Not that I need randos to encourage me to do what I would be doing willingly anyway, but it does get easier anon. Just do your thing and give no fucks. Life is too short to dress in boring ways. If you want to, you can try and gather with another lolitas at a lolita comm. All the lolitas social groups that go out are on facebook. Just search for lolitas (yourcityhere) at facebook.

Although be careful and lurk more if you choose this way. Girls are very suspicious of men and prolly some will think youre a perverted freak trying to hit on them, although they will act fine on the surface.
I recommend the channels ScarfingScarves and Lovely Lor and all the other channels linked with. It will give you an idea how lolitas think and feel.

OP here, good morning and thanks for all the replies and suggestions. I now have direction, which was the purpose of this thread. But most importantly I think I have a better idea of what to look for and what I'm should be going for, and a better understanding of how should I tackle this style, as someone who has NEVER thought about clothes deeper than throw shirt on, throw shirt off.
Some people suggested I go to /fa/ but every time I went there all I saw were sad cunts wearing street tech fashion and ultra cyberpunk fashion. Maybe that's the in thing, but I wouldn't know. In this regard /fa/ wasn't much help although the board was easier to navigate.
The type of clothing on /fa/ was pretty far from what I'm looking for which leads me directly to the other topic.
I think I found a style that I want to pull off, which is sort of a vampire/aristocrat style that deals in burgundy, dusky and melancholic colors and easily incorporates long coats, capes, cloaks, shawls. I think I instinctually like this style because even in the OP pic I liked the first guy most. You called his style steampunk but it's the colors and the more classical/romantic disposition that caught my eye. The 3 other guys were too normie casual.

When a western man takes interst in Ouji they are fucked unless they are manlets. CGL is shit about getting resources for people with any jfashion to accomodate for tall sizes. OP's best bet is to find someone taller in the fashion that can help, but personally, I can't think of a single non manlet who wears Ouji.

what you’re looking for is a fashion style called ouji, but what you posted isn’t like it. go google up on it, see if it suits you, and then start looking on taobao for pieces with custom sizing. then use a shopping service like superbuy to purchase them and voila, fancy man.

now I just want to bump the thread because
1. tall anons should get better help in general, and I will keep bumping until helpful information for taller men in jfashion is posted (who to commission, websites to purchase from, so on)
2. your absolute rage is hilarious

Not wanting to bump without providing help, all I know of is Ikemen Mode and fanplusfriend. I don't know anyone who you can commission or any other resources, hopefully others anons can help chip in

you consider that maybe people post entire threads for themselves because they don't understand this specific board is a little different? plenty of boards are fine with entire threads for a single persons question.

If you actually understood why people function differently, you'd be more forgiving towards that behavior because it stems from understandable differences. There's no need for pointless hostility that serves to only make you look like a bitter fuck.

This behaviour is probably an effort to prevent CGL from becoming a /jp/ board, in which the interesting threads get buried under thousands of empty threads about waifus and borderline porn content.

I agree that the hostility is shitty and lends to more hostility in between the members, but I also understand why some react this way. I mean, this is a Cosplay and Lolita board, Gatekeeping is quite strong in both niches.

From the images you posted it looks like you just want nice more nicely.

First piece of advice you and fellow /fit/izen, >>10449435 , is one that you many already be familiar with: get used to having clothes tailored.

Depending on your measurements, you may still be able to buy off the rack, but if you lift (and chances are a lot from the sounds of it), you are very likely going to need most, if not all, of your dress clothes tailored.

The reason for this is due to your measurements no longer falling into the "normal" range for humans males. My brother has the same issue when he was working out all the time; shoulders and chest too big for jackets fit his waist, waist to narrow for pants that would fit his hips (due to deadlifts). So all of his dress clothes had to be altered.

Bigger guys have an even rougher go of it, usually needing clothes to be bespoke.

I would start by going to a reputable tailor or suit store in your area. They may be willing to help figure out what fits, even if you aren't purchasing anything.

Oh, and you probably don't need high end either - 500 - 1000 (for a full suit, mind you) is fine.

most boards that are actually fairly active DON'T WANT SINGLE QUESTION THREADS unless it's something really niche or interesting, which "nonstandard male fashion" isn't
many boards including /cgl/ have dedicated threads for questions, I don't know what board you could've come from that doesn't have this unless you came from a shit board like /v/ or /pol/ or /r9k/
you said you're familiar with /fit/ so this shouldn't be news
so I think you just wanted fucking attention
