Their models are known to be too small for most of their releases, so no surprises she looks like she's being eaten.

I'm just surprised they'd post this shot rather than something from a front-on angle that would hide how big the dress is on her.

"I know this dress has come up on secondhand market a lot but the listing is always too expensive!"

If you really want to cringe you should see WTBs on depop; I made the mistake of searching there for an item I was looking for once and it's all WTBs and shitty replicas with the most whiny entitled captions...one girl literally called people "meanies" for not selling her AP wristcuffs below $30 (which she claims is the new price from the brand; little does she know depending on which store and after shipping it's definitely above that these days), and she cried about how she has been a lolita "for three years" and still has no AP wristcuffs.

Usually it's the print quality of taobao that lets it down. So long as you're only expecting to wear it only a year or two and then dispose of it (not sell it on -- the resale value for taobao is dismal) then there's no harm in getting it.

Is it any better to buy a 8+ year old brand dress with a fading print?

Depends on the print/dress. I have some printed burando from 2007 that look as crisp as the day they were released but some prints are notorious for fading. Overall Japanese brand prints are less prone to fading than cheap Taobao prints, but I’m sure there are exceptions.

>> No.10443647

You should check about the printing method to evaluate if it is worth it. I wouldn't buy something with an already crackling or fading print, though.

Regarding Chinese brands, most poly pieces from nice brands have prints made out of the sublimation process, which is really durable.

Not pointing fingers, just wanted to mention it since we're already discussing dress care. I do have one Meta dress that aged badly, but then it was a lucky pack dress to begin with, I always thought the quality on it on was lower than usual. Agreed on the shiny dress, but it's just one release. AP thread is even still talking about Ice Cream Parlour, and that came out just earlier this same month, not last year, heck not even last month.

idk, either the trolls are out in force after the APfags moved to their own threads, or maybe the zoomers just have shorter attention spans. It's not like you can't find a whole slew of terrible burando releases over on wtf_burando and they still go back to making quality dresses afterwards.

Not AP.

Ice Cream Parlor isn't a terrible dress though. It is just made of terrible fabric. Just like Honey Cake and most other AP releases recently that are border prints; it all would have been better on cotton because the poly has a glare that looks bad and on top of that compromises some of the structure of the dress making things look more sad and droopy.

Living in Japan definitely gives a huge advantage on saving money in other ways like being able to save on shipping and use CCs physical store, plus being able to go to other physical stores during sales or just anytime to get items in store that are sold out online and may be being scalped (though that applies to AP more). Tax free is nice but if it was easy for me to spend a couple years in Japan working to have access to jfashion stuff directly I'd gladly do it.

I suppose you could get the best of both worlds by being there for a long time on a tourist visa though.

I studied to clean garments in a professional way and there are more ways to destroy the piece with hand washing than with a washing machine. For beginners I almost always suggest to use a washing machine because of that.
Using the wrong detergent, let it soak for too long and without moving it enough or at all. Also the quality of the water you use needs to be checked as well.

Handwash is pretty tricky and a good washing machine can do it in most cases better and more gentle than any human.

Like the other anon said, drying is as important as washing. You really should check the way you clean your garments and look for improvements and of course not every material ages well, there can be quality issues. I own items from various brands and ages and the only items which aged badly were from Lief and from Friends I know that AP has some problematic pieces too.

Generally speaking Baby has remained great quality. I don't care if brands release "money grab" items if the quality is actually good like theirs. I just call that releasing a decent product in exchange for the expected price point of niche fashion brands in lolita.

5 shortsleeve cutsews

3 longsleeve blouses (almost too short)
5 headbows/headdresses (I don't wear)

10 printed socks; +3

2 ugly bracelets. I'm in dire need of more.
2 bloomers
2 pettis; +1 underskirt
raincoat, umbrella, rainboots; +earmuffs

I lost 4lbs the last two weeks, so in a few more weeks my skirt wardrobe should double, which is exciting. I'm right on the edge of that 72cm mark that most of them have as max, so it's hard to guess which will button vs. which will actually fit properly.

I've been into lolita fashion for years now, but only last year did I come up with the courage to buy a real dress. I usually just buy the accessories and wear them here and there. Money is tight so I usually just find one dress I really like and save up for it, and try to enjoy it as much as I can before moving to the next one. It would be a shame to ruin a good dress so quickly, so I bought 2 skirts. Still building up a good foundation of blouses.

I've only just got back into lolita 2 years ago. I'd don't plan on owning more than 20 jsks/ops because I don't go out enough to wear them all and I have no space. It's multiple things. First, being that I know if I just constantly consume everything I like, I will wake up and realised how much money I have wasted on things I only sort of like. I also have really little wardrobe space. I have to share my wardrobe with my mother who has 3 other closets filled with random shit she only wears once and abandons. I also live in a house where my parents (and my sister) hoard worthless shit like broken suitcases, buy ugly function-less furniture. I can't ever walk through my house freely, I have to squeeze past random pieces of furniture they won't through away because my mum needs her millionth wardrobe. I hate being around stuff. I love indulging in nice things, or else I wouldn't be into lolita, but I have my limits. I like knowing what I own just by glance and if I can't find a good reason for owning something other than it's pretty, i'm getting rid of it. Other then that, as a child, I really didn't have much possessions not because I came from a poor family, but because my parents never really spoiled me and treats were restricted to my birthday and Christmas, meanwhile they spoiled the ever living hell out my younger siblings. They were also quick to give away my shit without my consent so I've always valued what i own.

I can see how your experience would completely change how someone would feel about owning too many things. I hope, when you are able to get your own space, you can take more control over your environment.

I think it's interesting that your bring up childhood. Material things were a reward for me as a child for getting good grades, etc, so I think lots of stuff has always equaled "good" for me. Maybe I'm messed up because of that (as much as anons love to hate on "poorfags," they also love to hate on "hoarders." It's like you can't win because you either have too much or too little), because I'm a borderline collector. But possessions never felt like a burden to me, so I was curious.

I try to mentally pack all my lolita in to my car, because my most valuable things always get packed into my car, then taken into hotels if needed for the night, and taken back out. Casual jfashion leaning towards otome. Lately I wear a lot of MILK dresses + ETC/LG shoes + ankle socks. Its easy and not too out there for work. In the winter I get lazy and vintage sweaters with the same pair of pants every day.

The danger zone for lolita is when everybody thinks it's unpopular or "not worth it". So a lot of stuff like unpopular IW, Miho Matsuda, or blouses just never get listed for sale because the owners thinks nobody else wants it. So if you see some socks, wristcuffs, blouses, stuff that you really, really, really, really, really like but no one else seems to hype about, just buy it. You may never see it again.

Of course, don't bother with it if you just "kinda like" it. That kind of thing you can get over.

I think it's more of an overall quality concern because the brand (AP) is making choices that only serve to make the materials look more costumey to me. No one said all taobao is brand tier quality. This conversation happens all the time and the consensus is usually that almost all taobao main pieces for lolita tend to be lower quality than the typical quality of most brand, but that for other areas (pleather items, which vary wildly based on factors users cannot control like secondhand purchases, humidity, etc., blouses some of which are often made of cotton, acessories, many of which are just as cute as brand or sometimes more creative, socks, depending on the store, and more) quality is very very different when comparing different shops and all taobao is not on the same level. Plus because brand also frequently makes polyester or synthetic blouses and other stuff, if you like it and it is just as cute or fragile why not buy the taobao and save your money for either more items or for brand main pieces?

>cheap taobao dresses which don't last longer than a year and look like garbage.
Makes you wonder how $300 poly garbage bags from AP are going to last OH WAIT
>>10447180
To be fair i have more brand bags than taobao (2 taobao purses and 5 brand). I do like taobao’s cotton blouses much more than brand and they fit my broad shoulders.

Why do you keep mentioning AP when I don't wear new AP?

I just thinks its funny to see taobao poorfags blowing their money on a bunch of shitty brand new taobao dresses instead of saving up for brand or secondhand brand. Its quintessential poorfag mentality.
But keep talking about your taobao bags and shoes like anyone cares or is talking about that

But I've been talking specifically about broke taobaolitas who say they buy main pieces from taobao because its all they can afford, not realizing its more money and less worth it than it would be to just save up for something higher quality.

I realize there was a cotton one, but it just isn't as good as the poly one imo

I also love the gathers in the VM chiffon dresses. There's a particular gather they do where they will attach it towards the bottom of the dress, and it's lovely in different ways on both cotton and poly. I have said ruffle on various pieces in both cotton and poly, but really the poly one gives such a light feeling to the dress that can't really be replicated with cotton. Although the cotton gives a very victorian feeling as well, both are nice, just in different ways.

Too bad that it’s polyester. It looks like their beautiful old wool designs.
I’m also curious about this greasy-banged stranger.
