It looks like btssb to me, but without the nice textured fabric they like to use. Also what is that collar. Was confusing to find out it's AP instead of either taobao or btssb.

Would agree RPA always looked like taobao though. It never really seems to have its own design identity either, swings wildly with every release they seem to copy someone else (except for Tama's releases, but that's an external artist).

I don't think the state of emergency status will change the postal system directly, but rather shows a move back towards normalcy. It's possible that more Japanese postal workers will go back to their jobs, which might help to organize the backlog of packages. But mostly it depends on travel restrictions. Availability of cargo transit on commercial flights will increase as more people leave and visit Japan. Travel within Asia will increase soon as China reopens, and Europe and the USA probably won't be too far behind. I'd give it at least a few months before things go back to anything resembling normal delivery deadlines though.

So it's not about how Japan is doing - its about when Japan isn't scared of America's viral cesspool anymore.

That's really funny, because what you complain about the lack of detailing is why I think it doesn't look like ETC -- ETC, when they do a print, usually seem to go in for super simple cuts.

This dress has wristcuffs and collars trimmed with delicate lace, embossed buttons, the necktie has a cabochon, the "blouse" portion has pintucks. Couple that with a print that, despite the photo looking washed out, every object looks highly detailed and yet makes a coherent set. It has a lot of detailing, just not as "flashy" as AP normally is. But it's too detailed to be ETC or IW. That's why I thought btssb at first.

I only compare it to taobao because of the fabric, as btssb will normally do a release like this with textured fabric. Taobao on the other hand is known to copy buranfo styles for ertain releases so its not surprising for some taobao releases to "look" like burando even if they don't have the quality to match.

Nayrt but it still looks nothing like BABY regardless of it had been done with their fabric. "Not AP" style doesn't automatically mean BABY. It looks more likec an Imai Kira print color wise but the cut is just pretty different. AP presumably cheaped out and didn't want to have a really nice separate apron so they incorporated it directly into the dress (unless there are photos with the apron part removed but I haven't seen any?)

Everyone always gushes about Imai Kira, and I love her illustration especially, but can someone tell me more about the other AP designers/print artists, especially any that still work for AP?

Like which designers designed Melty Cream Donuts or Melty Berry Princess, or the some of the toy sweet prints like Toy Parade/Fantasy and Cotton Candy Shop? Or which BABY designers created the current modern designs for the Kumyas and do their artwork?

I never really thought too hard about looking into those sorts of details with brands but am wondering if some more informed gulls know the names of those people and what they're doing now if they're not still with their original brands?

I think most people with hobbies or interests get a lot of background info on the things they consume (like in videogames knowing about the music and director, etc, or with lolita knowing all the designer names beyond the really popular ones that get discussed a lot, or with manga knowing the previous series that an artist drew) but I just tend to enjoy it at the surface level and really only ever absorb those details secondhand or if I happen to come across it coincidentally.

I'm so excited; one of my Yamato packages is set to arrive today.

>> No.10402833

Hi anon.
CC just shipped my order DHL and it is supposed to arrive Friday/Monday. I live in the US. It is a ~$450 order, so I'll let you know? I just had a $550 order from Yamato arrive on Tuesday with no fees (if anyone is wondering). And I'll have a ~$750 order from Yamato shipped soon (nervous about that one).

In general, either there seems to be a ton of misinformation about customs, or there's some secret rule within customs that we all don't understand. The de minimis in the USA is $800. It's the same if you were returning on an international flight. You shouldn't have to pay duties on anything below $800 and it does not have to be formally declared. Customs can still open your package and inspect it, and if they find something they know is more valuable (camera, computer, etc), they will charge you.

The de minimis resets every day, so it's a pretty generous rule. However, all of your packages getting imported on the same day count towards the $800. So if you happen to have some random $100 package and a $750 package, you will have to pay customs. This is probably why people get confused? If someone is unaware that multiple packages are getting cleared at the same time, they probably don't know those values are getting added up.

I've heard stories where things above $800 get cleared with no duties. I'm not sure if that's USPS/whatever broker getting lazy, but the duty on goods is also determined by the type of good. Also, the duty on the goods is separate from the fees of the broker. USPS uses cheap government brokers. DHL/UPS/Fedex use private brokers with their own hourly fees, so you're at their mercy. That's why customs fees can get pretty steep.

TLDR; You shouldn't be getting any customs fees if the combined value of your package for any given day is below $800. Please someone correct me if I'm spewing misinformation.

>> No.10402835

Sure anon.

For DHL, it is being shipped from CC and contains about 12 items. All small accessories, no larger than a pair of AP tights. The shipping fee was a little odd because CC refunded me the overage, but I think it was ~$50-55

For Yamato, both of my orders were shipped in the "80 size" (one size up from the smallest size) box and were $46.40 for shipping. My first order had two cotton AP dresses, and four accessories.

I think Yamato seems to go off of size, and not weight as much? DHL seems like it goes off of weight. The items in my CC order were much, much smaller (they could probably fit into 60 size box for Yamato) but the shipping was about the same? So if your items are heavy and can be squished, I'd go with Yamato (On the English site it looks like the 80 size can go up to 11lbs, and the 60 size goes to 4.4 lbs). I'm not really sure about DHL pricing in general though.

You don’t get healthcare for free, your employer pays you less because they have to pay for healthcare. If they pay $1000/month for your plan, you pay an extra like $250 a month in taxes. Do you really not know how that stuff works? The importance to me is to have the occasion to wear and enjoy being involved in the fashion, not necessarily the people. My lifestyle, tastes, and hobbies are my own, and I'm fine if people think they're strange. If I wasn't okay with that, I wouldn't wear this fashion to begin with, and I'd be surprised if nobody empathized with that.

I figured there would be comms by the big cities, but was wondering in total what the lay of the land was. Being that lolita comms are likely more scarce than cities with applicable careers/opportunities, knowing where these comms are will significantly narrow down my choices, which is the goal. Once I do that, further narrowing the choices with other criteria (climate, cost of living, conveniences/inconveniences, culture, I guess we're alliterating with the letter C here, etc) will allow me to more deeply research the handful of areas I am considering to choose a good fit.

Calgary's comm is very pleasant with a good handful of intelligent, well-dressed members. They have meets and events every month or other month with small-ish turnouts, so you'll get a lot of chances to get to know the more social members. The drama is low-to-none, as the few troublesome people are easily avoided. Calgary is a beautiful city, though very cold for almost half the year, but they make up for it with decent city planning and lots of indoor things to do in those frigid months.

Edmonton's comm seems to ebb-and-flow in terms of activity and drama. When it's more active, it's full of drama. I don't think it helps that they have/had a higher proportion of men in leadership positions and have defended the inclusion of some questionable people for a long time. Their events are more frequent, with plenty of casual chit-chat meets, and three or four big events per year. Edmonton is a few hours north of Calgary, making it a little worse in the winter, but again, there's lots to do indoors. It's a festival city with something to go check out every week.

The Southern Ontario group is huge and includes multiple cities, but their main hub is Toronto. They're big enough that the group doesn't do meets very often because of logistical issues, and is really only good for sharing info/sales/finding local people to hang out with. Still, Toronto is a fairly big city that offers a ton of potential for you, and caters to newcomers well. The winters aren't too bad, relatively speaking, and it's not too hard to go visit another city in the area like Montreal or Ottawa. You have to try a beavertail, they're delicious.

Yamato is more of a courier service as you mentioned. They fill in the gaps that traditional mail service leaves, like shipping heavy suitcases or other bulky items across Japan for a low fee. You can ship with Yamato from most convenience stores in Japan to save a trip to the post office. They are also commonly used as domestic and international movers. I hate seeing this on fril/mercari after every good release.

My cgl-related feel is that I’m still mad at anons attitude in lowballing thread. Ugh.

I couldn’t get the sakura bunny OP and I’m so upset I’m crying. I know it’s stupid to cry over a dress but damn it, I wanted it so bad.

Are you me? Which color did you want?

I read all the posts on /cgl/ and no one seemed to be interested in this series but I still knew the dresses would be gone fast because of Chinese.

I'm always amazed at how AP shit is ridiculously easy to scalp. Ngl I've considered buying future MTOs just to resell them for way higher later.

I wanted white x pink, but I would have been happy with either of the other colors. I guess there’s still the US release, but I’ve literally never won in a US bloodbath, so. Guess I just have to hope the Chinese get bored of it and it shows up on the secondhand market at a reasonable price.

Let’s drink to misery together, anon.

Original anon here. I felt stupid for crying over the Lyrical Bunny headbands. I've never been successful getting them in any release, and I'd take any color but the red. It feels like there must be thousands of people trying to get a stock of 50 of one item. It absolutely ruins it for me. And while I'd be willing to pay $80-$100 for the stupid headband if it was direct from AP, I'm not going to feed the resellers who are listing it on Mercari/Fril before they even have the items in their hands. It's really disgusting.

I'm really sorry both of you >>10404249 didn't get the OP. I really did not expect them to sell out in seconds as well. It didn't seem like it was going to be a popular release (I personally didn't want it).

On top of all of this, with the riots in the US going on, I'm so scared of USPS/Fedex/UPS/DHL getting hit and destroyed in my area. USPS Mail trucks Minnesota were already stolen and vandalized. I absolutely hate it. That literally could have been someone's stimulus check. It makes me even more anxious that the good parts of the world are being targeted and things I waited months to get could be literally turned to ashes. I know someone is inevitably going to hate on me for mentioning the riots and "first world problems," so I guess I'll shut up now.

Whenever I see complaints like this I wonder how privileged people are supposed to talk and discuss their problems. Because no matter how much of a “first word problem” it sounds, it’s still a problem. Are people supposed to keep it shut just because they seem as someone who’s able to eat the cost of lost brand?

People are allowed to complain. I complain about more "first world problems" a lot but sort of tell myself "gee, I'm glad this was the worst thing I had to deal with today"

I'm black and even though I'm working class and can't afford to eat the cost of missing brand I would rather have that problem than the other problems many other black people in the US have (getting gunned down or otherwise harmed and stereotyped by cops and racist white/nonblack civilians).

I guess for me even if it's something like losing a lot of money on missing brand, the fact that that's my biggest worry that day when some people don't have food or get sold into trafficking, murdered, stalked, abused (I used to be in an abusive family situation and since left) sort of puts things in perspective and makes me want to be more optimistic or not as bothered by stuff.

That doesn't mean that "privileged" people don't struggle or anything obviously. Even if the worst thing to ever happen to you is losing some brand you ordered, it really is the worst thing that happened to you and from your perspective that's really bad. It just benefits people who are in that position to take a step back and remember that things could be worse, really for your own mental health and to keep yourself from being too upset by something that in the grand scheme of it all is small.

That sounds quite racist, as if poc aren't just as human or something. You're going to have to bring better bait than that.

Thanks anon! I prefer for cgl to be less salty and more focused on having actual level headed conversations about topics (even ones thst are only tangentially related to lolita like this one)

I like this board a lot more when people are understanding and just kind and helpful to one another sharing what we all like without the snarkiness (even if sometimes the result of the salt is kind of funny to read)

I would have jumped on this if they weren’t so cheap looking. I get it’s a mask but it looks like a taobao knockoff.
