Anyone have any pics/info about sources of real world inspiration for Nana Oosaki's clothing in NANA? I'm curious to know how accurate her clothing is to the 2000s japanese punk fashion scene. As far as I've found, not as many Japanese punks of that era were into RHS and VW as she was written to be?

Double decker was the popular knock off version on rhs in the early 2000s and it wasn’t like they couldn’t find VW if they wanted to. Never mind that most of the punk gothic clothing brands were already established in the late 90s.

I think its obvious that VW was and still is big in Japan and while teens at that time may have been too poor to get a ton of real vw it was hyped. Like >>10371856 said knock off rhs were common.

Nayrt, I wouldn’t call it a specific style, but it is a trend that is being done differently in Japan. This would be like insisting that Pink House isn’t jfashion because it developed as a response to an international interest in prairie revival. It’s a street look popular in Japan, wherein the trends are different than what’s being done in western spaces. How is that not relevant to this thread

So after doing some research I finally figured out that the dark girly style in pic related is called Jirai Onna kei (地雷女) which translates to landmine woman. I came across the term when looking at Japanese makeup videos.

Some brands that sell this style are Ank Rouge, Jamie Ank, Bubbles, and Dear My Love. Its interesting because ank rouge and dear my love used to be Himakaji brands, then they changed to Larme style, and now they're this new style.

you have it backwards, romegyaru wasn't really a thing, himekaji grew into its own thing outside of it's gyaru roots, especially since liz lisa slowly started moving away from sterotypical gyaru styling and make after 2014.

Back then a lot of shops carried clothing based off Western punk wear, especially tops and jackets. So, that's where you see a lot of leather jackets, tank tops, and the ilk.

i've only ever bought shoes from them and they surpass shoes from made from that gross soft pleather by a long shot, whilst having some nice padding. It's ok for the price you pay, especially since all of this stuff will be heavily discounted eventually. The kuromi key chains will the only thing i will buy personally.

Dear My Love has always been a pretty cheap brand. Their stuff is not the highest quality. Some of their offshoot brands had slightly better quality though.

They are some polyester and polythurane nylon mix, I think they are more intended for strolling around the beach than actual swimming.
