With so many bands cancelling lives because of Coronavirus I’m worried about how much money some of the smaller bands will be loosing. Even lives that don’t get cancelled have much fewer people turn up, so the band still makes less on merch than usual.

It's not popular in Japan, let alone the West. You'll either have to get people into it, be really patient until you find people, or use the Internet to find people.

Then move to Japan, because foreign visual kei bands have never really worked. They're always either cringeworthy (Seremedy, BatAAr currently, Nana:[shi])

Or they become a visual kei influenced but they do their own thing, which can actually be a good thing (Hex.sys is a good example, Madmans Esprit was good before they became crap)

Or if you go to Japan to do it, sometimes you get stuff like Glamscure and Coagula, which are legitimate visual kei bands started by foreigners.

I've been a visual kei fan for years but didn't get into Luna Sea until fairly recently, which I'm realizing was an enormous mistake. The more I hear them the more I understand that their influence cannot be overstated. Their guitar work is audible in basically every non-metal visual kei band that came after them.

Luna Sea is immaculate, Luna Sea, COLOR, D'erlanger Zi:KIll, and Kuroyume are the real giant influencers of most VK from the 90s to the 2000s, and even other bands like ACME today are still using the same melodies as GLAY, Madeth and Others...
