What do your parents think about you dressing up as characters from chinese cartoons and going to events with other people who dress up as chinese cartoon characters?

They don't pay my bills since I moved out at 18, I make a decent living without debt to afford my life style, and don't let it completely run my life. Blatantly post that shit on my facebook account used only for shitposting and they are the kind of "if I don't have it then somethings wrong".

You shouldn't need self validation from others to enjoy what you love.

Only sidebar to this is, if they pay your rent and feed you. Their house, their rules. So if they see you spending a fuck load of time/money endlessly on a convention they could have a point.

>trying on my BNHA school uniform
>Dad has a day off, but mom is at work
>I walk by the hall on the way to the bathroom
>visible and audible confusion
>he asks what it's for and then kind of "huh"'s himself back to whatever he's doing without really understanding what the hell this has to do with my japanese mangos

>a day or two later, still working on the wig
>I had just finished trying to on my head to mark out where I needed to cut more and such. Again, on my way to the bathroom to cut it
>Mom is in bed with her door open and notices me pass
>"oooooh! what is that?! let me see, let me see!" she calls out in an excited voice
>I explained to her what is was and she showered me with some compliments then I went back to work.

They're very in theme responses to my parents. My mom's reaction made me smile and my dad's made me chuckle. He was confused, but interested in what I'm doing and what my interests are nonetheless. I wish I could have had the opportunity to show him that I'm sewing costumes from scratch now. I think he would've been amazed.

they help me sew my costumes and ask for pictures of specific characters when I go to cons.

My parents met while working at a Renaissance faire, why would they have a problem with this?

>> No.10349220

My parents didn’t approve at first, but since I was an adult using my own money, they couldn’t stop me. I kept practicing sewing and as I got better, they started to appreciate it more. They saw it was something that I loved and that I was passionate about, so they couldn’t help but come around to look on my hobby favorably in the long run.

My mom told me that she's more proud of my Rita Repulsa cosplay than of me being a lawyer.

She actually used to cosplay as KISS back in the 80s so

desu my mom wants to cosplay sailormoon now adays. When i first got into cosplaying my parents were embarrassed about me going out in public, now adays theyre chill about it. I'm just lucky to have a dad that loves watching One Piece and DBZ ever since i was a little girl.

Most of my hobbies used to be computer related, so when I got into cosplay they liked that I was doing stuff away from my computer. My dad gives me some tips with the crafting parts and mom helps with the sewing.

I once did a crossplay (if you can even call that shit a crossplay) with my friends on carnival for fun. Mom thought it was weird and didn't like it, but didn't try to stop me.

>> No.10349769

Mom doesnt care that much, helps with sewing though if i ask.
Grandmother on the other hand loves seeing me in cosplays, and always wants to hear what im working on and wants to see pictures. :,)

My mom is who taught me how to sew, so she probably made their costumes. I never really asked to be honest.

My mom never had too much of an opinion on it. She used to be huge into anime in the 90s so she doesn't question it. Dad is generally a nerd and thinks its cool. Step-dad is massively into building shit so he's happy to bond over making props. Grandparents love it though and constantly want photos of whatever new cosplan i have

My mom is actually cosplaying for the first time and going to her second ever convention after seeing me cosplay and go to conventions for the past 10 or so years.

She's going as a Milanoo tier vampire but at least she's having fun.

My mom doesn't really care and is probably jealous of me.
My father seems to be happy for me and supports me as long as I'm happy.
I love my old man so much I'd love one day if I could even make him proud with this. If I could tell him I get invited to events for this, if I appeared on national news for this, or show photos of me and x famous person I collab'd with to him. But I'm ugly and useless and that's just a dream.

I love you pops...

Been at this thing for almost 2 decades?

At first my dad really didn't like my interest in Japanese stuff because he's a Vietnam vet and WWII/pearl harbor was still sorta recent in his youth.

My mom was a narc and psychopath and would tear down my interest in anything. Was pretty much non-supportive. If she was, it would be two-faced or full of back-handed comments.

Siblings (all older) thought it was weird.

Eventually met my husband through cons/cosplay, been vending for a long time and actually make pretty good money with it. I used to win craftsmanship and performance awards back when I was more active in cosplay. I've had the ability to travel, meet lots of people and do things none of them really do.

My mom passed away about 8 years ago, but had turned to being supportive. "Are you going to another conference?" Still had some back-handed commentary but I think she liked that she could twist it into something she could brag about.

My dad regularly attends the big local con, at least for a day. He doesn't do much but he likes going around and people watching since he's in his 70's now. He still likes to help with props if I need them.

My older sister likely still thinks I'm weird and won't ever grow up. But at this point, I've cut contact and don't care.
