I'm in the market for a fairly basic gothic cardigan, and was wondering if someone has this and could give their opinion on it. I don't want to get the black moitie one because it has the logo in navy and there's basically no navy in my closet, but this one seems like it might be a little too long to wear with lolita? Opinions or suggestions on other places to get a good cardigan welcome

Any tips for westerners that want old school hime bangs? Most of the examples I’ve seen are Asian lolitas, and I know from experience trying to translate haircuts between Asian and western hair types and face shapes can be tricky. I’ve seen some bad attempts and I think it has to do with the different ways bangs are cut in general in japan vs the west. Are there rules of thumb for how far out past your eyes they should start or if the bottom is angled? I try to interpret street snaps and show them to hair dresser friends of mine and they just get confused as to what I really want because I’m not sure where the hair is coming from, whether it’s side hair or top hair if that makes sense. And to be clear I mean the thick, short old school type, not the long thin strands you see with air bangs

I stick to the same colours, and if I already have a blouse/legwear in the same colour and length (ex: black short sleeve blouse, red tights, white ankle socks) I won't buy another, even if it's slightly different
I also won't pay more than $200 for brand no matter what (no more than $125 used), $160 for taobao, or $25 for bodyline main pieces
>biggest regret purchase and why
ughh brand new aatp. It's a cute dress, don't get me wrong, but it wasn't a popular release and it's low poof and muted colours so I can't really go all out with it. And even though it's got partial shirring, the jsk straps don't have buttons so it's not super size accommodating if I eventually sell it. It's nice and comfy, but it was my only non-secondhand brand purchase

For a hot minute, I was snagging any cheap taobao dress that came up on LM ($30 range) and learned my lesson that that's a shitty way to build a wardrobe. I'm limiting myself to things that are going to fit well and actually saving up for some of the 2020 ap releases.

I'd want to pay people a fair price but European and US sellers tend to put their items on LM for a high price compared to other countries. I'd be concerned they'd think I'm low balling.

It really depends on what kind of dresses you have and how you style them. IW and Moitie you can practically wear anywhere that floral dresses would be okay. Cutsew dresses are almost too casual for meetups and really comfy for lounging in (then pull on some legwear and accessories if you want to go out and grab some milk or whatever).

Sweet dresses without a ton of frills and details (ie- AP special sets, their "retro" releases, and half of btssb or Meta) work fine for the mall, shopping, hanging out with girl friends, etc, if you keep things toned down -- no wigs, natural makeup, no OTT peignoir madonna crown sash with 10 rosettes, etc. Keep the poof low as well, easier to move through crowded places, not as tiring and stands out less.

Don't go by what public figures wear. Someone with a youtube channel will have a bigger wardrobe because they wear it for their youtube "show" in addition to wearing it for meetups, shopping, etc. Misako has a giant wardrobe because it's her "thing" to be a lolita model and show off the latest releases on her insta/twitter.

Onto sitting in hoop skirt, it actually looks way cooler and more dramatic. The girl from pic related seems like not wearing any underskirt at all, but this is what it would look like. nayrt but I've never in my life heard or a white person with legitimate afro kinky textured hair that wasn't actually just an albino black person??? Not sure what you me by white people having that texture at all.

The argument for hair texture works for hime cuts as well though. Many Asians have thicker or particular hair textures. Hairdressers mention it when discussing dyeing hair. And the texture of your hair can affect how it will sit once cut.

But I've seen tons of white or non Asian girls pull off hime cuts. The anon wanting to have something to ahow a hairdresser should try looking in the archives for that Google doc someone put together on types of bangs and where to grab the hair from and what shape, etc. It was pretty helpful.

If you're referring to white as being germanic people with no mixture of any other ethnicity in their blood, so then yeah, though gingers usually have a rougher texture to their hair.

But, if you're only referring to the visual color of the skin, then it's something really common to spot in countries that were invaded by Europeans and sustained the slavery system during the 1600~.

I enjoy trying out new combinations within my wardrobe and I don't really care whether I have a "reason" to get dressed up or not, so I do often end up wearing lolita to the grocery store. My style isn't particularly casual (though I don't wear wigs because I dislike them) but I'm used to being overdressed no matter where I go so I don't really care. I don't see why people set goals for themselves to wear it more though? Just wear it if you want to, and don't wear it if you don't.

I started getting into goth in middle school and getting into Voltaire, reading gothic beauty magazine and I remember there was a category list on the different types of goth in a book and it mentioned gothic Lolita . I was already into VK jrock like Dir en grey (07’) and I found Malice Mizer through that ,and subsequently found Mana and the fashion. I wear lolita on weekends only. And even that varies from twice a week to once a month depending on what I do, how busy I am and do I go out at all. If I'm in a mood I can throw on a simple coordinate to go get groceries. I take pictures of most of my coords and save them to a folder. I have 67 coord pics from 2019, so roughly wear the fashion once a week. I have around 80 main pieces in my wardrobe.

-limitations: brand only. No offbrand. Good indie brands are fine (aka no lady sloth)
-biggest regret: ribbon berry bunny OP: I'm tall and bought it new from AP not knowing it would fit funny. It was one of my first dresses and I paid an intense amount of customs on it, and never worn it.
-novelty items: I owned an AP jewelry tin but I knocked it over by accident last month and it smashed. Rip.
-60% of my closet can go in the washing machine, the other 40% I hand wash. I don't buy anything that's dry clean only.
-fave perfume is Prada candy, always. I don't like other perfume smells on me. It's sweet but I don't really wear sweet. Whatevaaa
-I'm on Instagram, I like putting my coords on there but I don't do posed coord shots anymore. I get uncomfortable posing for them and I prefer the look of candids/doing random stuff in lolita for my own personal feed. Not interested in documenting my coords so I don't mind if it's a bit out of theme for the typical lolita Instagram. But I love seeing what others wear.

Expensive shoes that were my usual size but ended up not fitting - I couldn't have known really. As far as my own mistakes, a backpack-style bag; I hate how it makes me feel like a kindergardener, and I haven't worn it.

Skirts, blouses, pettis, cardigans on the bottom rack; dresses on the top rack; accessories on the shelf between them; jewelry on my dresser.

No, the closest thing I have to novelties is a matching black raincoat and umbrella, which I do use, especially the umbrella.

So far, I've washed all the items in the machine on delicate in mesh bags and then air-dried them. I haven't had to wash some of my pieces yet since they're mostly skirts, but I expect I would handwash and steam them.

You want the bangs to start as a point from the middle part and go out like an 'A" and you want them to be above your eyebrows but not past the outer corners of your eyes (vs the half moon, semi circle shape wester hairdressers tend to cut bangs) Then ask for thick face framing pieces cut at a slight downward angle. Moitie wrist cuffs. I just find the lace to be rather ugly after buying a atelier pierrot choker that had far prettier lace.

My wardrobe used to be huge and cluttered with no coherent style whatsoever, so last year I decided to re-organize everything. I went down from about 80 main pieces to 45 (20 for spring/summer and 20 for auttumn/winter). Then I kept 5 special occasion dresses. Apart from that, everything that was too fancy had to go. I limited myself to 2 styles (otome-kei and classic lolita) and a more light but muted colour palette. All the gothic stuff had to go, and all the busy prints as well.

>- do you impose any restrictions on your closet
I stick to mainly sweet or classic sweet Angelic Pretty. I've decided that I despise off brand blouses so I try to keep everything AP or Baby. Everything in my wardrobe matches three other items or more, so I can wear it differently each time with variety. If it matches nothing, then it's a no go. This is how I slowly integrate other themes in my wardrobe as everything is connected to some degree. (Is my autism showing)
>- biggest regret purchase and why
This Btssb dress whose name shall not be mentioned. It's a lovely dress but the previous owner on LM never told me they were a chain smoker so I ended up with a dress stained yellow from nicotine which I paid $180 for. I cleaned it and it looks brand new now but I sold it because the dress gives me ptsd every time I look at it. Never again.
>- describe your closet setup
I use a white dress rack which holds all my main pieces, blouses, boleros, aprons, etc. I store the bags underneath but my kumya clan and milky pony are hung up on the sides for display. I also have a dress form nearby to help me coord without having to put anything on my body. This is serving me well so far but things may get questionable once my wardrobe gets larger.
>- how many novelty items do you own, do you actually use any of them
My impractical plush bags from Baby and AP. Surprisingly, I do use them a lot as each one matches with at least 3-6 dresses.
>- what's your ratio of handwashed/laundered/dry cleaned pieces
I stick everything into a mesh bag and wash it on gentle then air dry.
>- favorite perfume to wear with lolita
Indigo by Nest. It smells like bergamot and tea and is a very pleasing scent that lasts. I hate 99.5% of perfumes but Nest is the only exception. I recommend anything by them.
>- what social media platforms are you on and to which, if any, have you posted pictures of you in lolita
I posted like twice on Instagram and got some good feedback.

Maybe I was just unlucky, but a lot of JetJ dresses that I used to own came with unfinished hems, frayed edges or loosen seams or other serious issues that even handwashing them was not an option anymore. I never said that delicate fabrics equals poor quality. But if you are paying half a grand on a single dress, the construction and quality should be impeccable and that wasn't the case. I own a lot of delicate fabric dresses by other brands like VM or MM and washing them on delicate cycle in a garment bag never caused me any issues. My priorities also might be different. I want things that I can wear daily and that don't get worn down too quickly, so fabric/construction sturdiness are important to me and JetJ just doesn't score high on that.

I'd consider it somewhat lame, honestly. I kind of don't really get why someone would buy the Usakumya window bag in the first place if they didn't already have something they want to put in there and show off.

It doesn't even have to be Usakumyas or can badges. Baby makes a crapton of stuff with their logos on them, there's probably a way to pin a few hairbows and jewellery with their logo on it. Then maybe an additional homemade badge or two wouldn't look so sad.

I guess I just find it weird that someone buys an itabag, which I normally associate with people bragging about their merch, the itabag is from the brand itself, the brand itself makes an overflowing amount of merch, yet somehow someone buys the bag and then fills it with bootleg brand logos. I mean it's not like I particularly care whether or not someone's bragging about their brand, but... it's a little odd, I suppose?

It's hard to say since I've been involved in the fashion for ages. Three currently (I think I used to have more, but long sold or given away). I really only use one of them being a makeup bag. The rucksacks' pockets are too smoll for much anything.

seller here. when you create an invoice on a payment plan, you (the seller) choose to allow partial payment and then set a minimum that the buyer can pay at once when they pay, then you just set out the terms with them as usual. so say you sell a dress for $250 and they want to pay $50 every 2 weeks, you'd set up the partial payment minimum for $50 and then they just pay off that same invoice. they wouldn't be able to pay less than the $50 each time, but they could pay more. it's really convenient imo, less to keep track of and less possible issues arise.

50-odd main pieces in daily rotation, most of it is IW or AP. Would add Baby but AP with pockets are ten times more practical. IW is more toned down so it's easy to wear everywhere.

Sweet, casual

I definitely have more cutsews of all types for different weather and occasions than anything else which is pretty handy for going out often. Most of my stuff is pretty warm and cozy cause my local climate is cold most of the time. Also I started with a different jfashion before lolita and had a cohesive wardrobe to work with when I started to buy more main pieces. I think that thanks to this I can get a lot more versatility out of my wardrobe despite it not exactly being a capsule I think.

An oldschool underbust JSK simply bc I liked the vertical nauticul stripes. I never wear it, and it's hard to sell.

My room's a small space; it was originally a closet so there's a long bar stretched across one side, so that's where my dresses and shirts and pettis hang. To the right is a long shadow-box shelf. My purses and hats go there. I want to hang hooks for better wristcuff and headbow storage.

My comm has some members who are quite plus sized. I've gained a bunch of weight myself which I would like to get most of it off by the end of this year. We all either wear handmade, brand, altered brand, bodyline, taobao or custom size indie. I wear mostly brand with a bit of indie and taobao (only recently started buying main pieces from taobao after years of being in the fashion, mostly out of curiosity).

The only times I've seen replicas in my comm have been in the early 2010's and a few spotty appearances over the years. Usually from newbies who are doing fine now, or from people once in a blue moon in the one sub-group of our state's comm who never quite have it together.

I used to wear replicas starting out, but this was around 2010, when there were well-known people in the online community who openly wore them and spoke positively about them in blogs or videos. There weren't many options available either as Taobao consisted of spotty releases that were mostly small, or custom-size but gothic. There was also Bodyline, but there wasn't too much at that time for fatty-chans. You had brand or handmade. So a lot of poor-chans, beginners, or fatty-chans went with replicas. We had Clobba for middlemen sites with only a small selection of items (also replicas).

These days, if you're poor, quite plus-sized, or a beginner, there are literally a plethora of places you can get some decent to amazing quality items with original art. There is no reason to go with a replica, unless you are new and very uninformed.

I've heard people speaking up in defence of replicas saying that person might want some particular dress and not want it to be pre-worn/damaged. Honestly, that felt pretty legit. It sounds pretty weird to me when people say that non-replica taobao is better than SC from DoL (for example, idk if they are still active tho) although someone is looking for SC specifically. I'm NOT defending replicas, but the whole "redirecting" thing sounds dumb to me.

I will never ever understand that mentality. You can't have eberything you want. If you can't afford a luxury item like a certain dress, you simply can't have it. Like it as much as you want but you need the money for it and it needs to be available. If it's not available for you for whatever reason deal with it. You don't have a right to have everything you want. Wanting something is no legitimation to buy a replica. It's childish.

uh you don't seem to know what copyrights are. an artist doesn't automatically own copyrights to their work, nor do companies own the copyrights just by commissioning an artist. unless you have proof of companies purchasing copyrights, you can't claim that. also if a company only owns the copyright within their country, it creates a gray area in other countries. do some research

You don't have to "purchase" rights to your own work retard

Uhh actually you're the idiot here lmao. In the US creators automatically have rights to their own work unless a contract states otherwise

ok, my point is just that the nature of art is to be shared and built upon, not to be untouchable for all time. thus why copyrights were never meant to be a permanent thing

you're confusing copyright with something else.

if you don't register (pay) for a copyright then you can't do shit about any infringement. also if you don't register the copyright in the country where replicas are being made, then again you can't do shit about infringement. there's been cases where chinese replica makers managed to register japanese and korean companies' copyrights in china, which makes their replicas legal in china. huge issue in bjds right now

thx for your uninformed insults

From copyright.gov:

When is my work protected?
Your work is under copyright protection the moment it is created and fixed in a tangible form that it is perceptible either directly or with the aid of a machine or device.

Do I have to register with your office to be protected?
No. In general, registration is voluntary. Copyright exists from the moment the work is created. You will have to register, however, if you wish to bring a lawsuit for infringement of a U.S. work. See Circular 1, Copyright Basics, section “Copyright Registration.”

You only have to register if you intend to sue. Sending a DMCA takedown notice isn't a legal action and doesn't require registration. Try again.
