Only reason I can't tolerate AX is due to the constant bullshit of costs that become more noticeable over the years
>no longer want to throw down 250 for a shared bedroom, and not paying a kidney for a close hotel
>ticket prices still insane
>LAX 4th of july ticket prices and headaches
>eating food in downtown LA near the con costs
>add up the costs I could easily do 2 other cons and possibly 1-2 local small cons

I make more money than I did years ago, but dunno it feels less worth it now even if I can afford it fairly easily. I dunno but it's hard to explain, maybe I just like a con of less than 12k where I can talk with people and feel myself breath while getting water that isn't 12 dollars from a shill. The con just feels so not worth it year by year, don't get me started on the panel waits/shits.

Kinda makes me want Japanese corporations to band together and fund and run their own convention similar to WonFest or Comiket. Ax has no real industry connections. They have an extremely thin connection to even the Japanese government. You think AX will ask companies like Kadokawa to lend IP when kadokawa can do it themselves? The flaw is Japanese companies justifying releasing anime PVs in America first before even the Japanese in japan. Get to see them. Heck, our manga market in America is still niche. Aside from shonen, other genres get ignored. However, this is just America. I never seen Europeans like French people complain about French anime expos. Heck, I think France even have mangaka visit them compared to anime expo. JoJo's Araki was in Italy last summer. Perhaps industry shows are dying in America. Why the fuck would they care? It's a 30 minute ride for shit like that they probably don't care too much about. They are looking for a pay check, they can afford a car or driver to take them wherever.
>We know when Japanese industry go to AX, they rent nearby hotels but I doubt Japanese people want to Wal around downtown LA late at night outside AX activities
Downtown LA has tons of very exclusive high end places, they will be taken there. It's not like Japan is the cleanest best place on earth. Have you never been to Japan before?
> Little Tokyo is an ancient relic at this point after all
Little tokyo is nothing but a weeb thing at this point.

Disney has 0 pull to idols who can afford to rent a car/driver to take them there if they choose. It's a non issue, being across the street when they need to perform and prep that day does nothing. You don't think they can afford a day or few minutes to go if they choose?

I can tell you're not from the area because DTLA to Disneyland isn't even that bad of a drive unless you are trying to get there during rush hour.

Unless a sizable chunk of of attendees actually stick to their word and don't attend AX (they won't and I'll see you all crawling back in July), nothing is going to change. The only people I've met who scream about Anaheim CC/ACC are people with cars around LA or near ACC. Fuck anyone who is flying in, fuck the people doing a train or bus too. Yeah I get it is "more open and way bigger" but for who exactly?

Around ACC there are
>less places to eat
>less in/out via a metro or other public transportation.
>fighting for rooms with the Disney controlled hotels
>farther than LACC to LAX
>july 4th bullshit absolutely fucking you on any highway or traffic

I get no one really likes the LACC for various reasons but there simply isn't another option unless you move to San Diego. Disney world won't interest anyone who is on a strict contract to fly in and out from Japan or whatever to do a visit for 3 days. It might interest a family with kids but not much else, no idol is going to B-line it right for AX because RIGHT BY DISNEY!!!! If you move it to LACC with the disadvantages it has, you'll kill a lot of the numbers, meaning less funds for getting big names, and ultimately making it go downhil.

It basically would never make it to any real court hearing ever. You could file a complaint show up in court, and get it thrown out but you would need a damn good lawyer.

First, you would need to show that there was no way for said person to leave the facilities, to access water, or other basic needs.
Secondly, AX staff was/does hand out water bottles though they go quickly, others sell water and facilities are open to use should you need them in an emergency.
Third, no one forced him to stand in line to get into a convention that is all day, they chose to stand in tempatures and climates for longer hours than normally advised and collapsed.

The burden of proof to show fault of the party accused is up to the accuser, people on this board constantly forget this simple fact. You can't use the "well I paid to get in so I was a paid customer and blah blah long line", convention was all day you had time to do all the necessary prep for it but you didn't factor in the weather. Now if this was a mass issue where like 1 out of 3 people were dropping and staff did nothing while blocking exits, big ooops.

>an ambulance which can barely reach them half the time because of the crowd not enough to make a public safety hazard case?
That's an issue with any line/crowds, see literally any out door music fest with drugs/beer. That's the patrons causing the issue not the convention host so long as they are within fire regulation standards and code.

They can uber or have a lackey drive which means the guests can veg out or sleep during the ride. It's cheap as fuck when it comes down to it. Management just books them rooms near Disney if they want a short return trip (and at night not like it matters since you can haul ass when no one is on the road). it depends on whether you buy lots of merch from the hall or not. AA I spend maybe $40 at most (no prints, just specific things). if you go for a lot of items from the exhibit hall you could get up that high but there are very few things that I buy at a con. has to be AX exclusive or you can find it online for cheaper 90% of the time. Think I spent $100 in the hall last year.

Concerts are variable and depend on who AX gets. If it's an act I like I might spring for VIP which means $120-150. if not then $60, or I skip it completely.

Is Anime Expo good for someone going alone?
I go to con solo all the time because my friends are not into convention/cosplay (even the weeb ones). Been to DragonCon, AWA, NYCC alone. Made a lot of friends through meetup, party and drinking at the bars. Is it easy to do the same at AX?
I usually get an Airbnb and then Uber to the party hotel but seems like a lot of hotel is doing wristband/key check during AX. I'm going alone so I want to prepare for all the scenarios.

>Is AX the most ~ prestigious ~ anime con in the USA
Depends what you mean but sorta? It's the biggest name out there, biggest attendance(excluding PAX/CC shit), and draws the biggest names often.

Is it the best? Fuck no, AX is a fucking shitfest that people go to because it's "what everyone else is doing", I'd rather go to ALA, Sakura-con, and AWA, or some shit by miles. If you don't live in the LA area, you're going to be looking at dropping around 1k USD for transportation/room/food/etc at minimum. This con has a lot of positives, often good performing bands, exclusive VA's that you would not see unless you went to japan, and some really high end cosplay/vendor goods/performances.

The biggest issue is that a midsized or smaller cons are so stupidly less expensive since not july 4th weekend, and not in downtown LA. This con cosplay and attendence is also a shit fest as everyone is trying to get somewhere else. I'd gladly take AWA where I can chill with people in the lobby and talk to people about shit rather than the stuff at AX where it's so busy.

I'm not going this year because I could realistically afford a 7-10 day trip to Japan for the cost of this AX, I'll only go if one of my friends is selling floor space for cheap and maybe if I can get a cheap badge.

You could save money just by staying in a cheaper hotel/airbnb and then Uber/commute in. Buy less costume. Or cosplay a simple character that doesn't eat up all of your time and resource. Or even simpler. Don't go to con when you don't have the money.

so far i've only finished the audio half of this new one, and am still pre-processing video to edit. so i can't guarantee it'll be as good as the last one, which unexpectedly kicked ass (didn't even know amv contests were a thing till like right before otakon's deadline, i'd just made it for fun). new one's gonna be like 8x the effort for 1/2 the results, so i dunno if i should try to "play it safe" or be a chad and take a chance with something new.

i still wish they would move AA over to the entertainment hall since there's so much fucking unused space there. kentia hall is always a disaster and pain to traverse through

I like how Kentai Hall is easy access, but it's damn near inhumane how they cram artists in there. What always baffles me is how they're willing to sardine the artists, but then leave half of that space barely used by autograph lines and art exhibits. Like come on.

It's all the fucking lazy people sitting on the floor outside Kentia Hall that makes it unbearable.

well at least this shows they are willing to shut everything down if need be instead of foolishly going through with it.

question is how likely is it that shit will really hit the fan?

Check back in a month. We're at the beginning of the acceleration phase. With the way US healthcare is with costs and US jobs are when it comes to time off we are sitting on a ticking time bomb.

>GDC just got cancelled entirely. I would be fucking pissed if AX gets cancelled.
GDC got cancelled by the people running it because they have for the past few years wanted to push it to an online streamed service where they can throw adds all over. GDC doesn't really need a physical presence compared to something like AX

I have a feeling face masks willl be the #1 accessory this year.

>> No.10350839

I would argue the opposite. Gdc is an industry event so fans don't even get much from it. Its more about industry networking and speaking face to face. Maybe you're thinking of e3?

I'm worried about this year's concert scene especially after how last year's was completely garbage. Thank god that Neon District came back though

My sides are in orbit over how true this is. Now I'm reminded of when AX tried so hard to advertise that one orchestra no one went to last year

If they're like other events at places too big they'll just close off the upper parts and use the bottom oarts. Don't think they believe they'll sell out the whole place but needed a bigger than novo size venue
