I have a huge folder on my computer of other peoples coordinates that I've saved. Sorted by print, specifically AP print because thats the style I like. Sometimes to avoid anxiety I will spend hours saving coordinates.

My collection sits at 801 MB, 3,000+ coordinates in 70 folders.

Wouldn't admit this outside of this thread because it is probably really creepy. I have coordinates that are a decade old from daily_lolita.

I actually think that's really cool anon. Thank you for sharing. I save things I like too, but my collection isn't nearly that big yet. I think it's nice to have coord ideas from other people and inspiration that you know won't be lost to the void of the internet.

I don't have any interest in continuing to build my wardrobe, take photos, or any of the other EGL related hobbies I used to love due to the lack of community. It feels like there is no central place to discuss this fashion anymore and its all full of people reposting the same trash topics over and over because its not easy to find and reference larger discussions with all of the algorithms of each site pushing posts around.

>TLDR I never thought the online community of LJ effected how much I loved the fashion until I realized how much I missed posting there.

>> No.10328898

I stumbled over an escort who is living in the US and openly promoting themselves and their prefered fetishes (literally everything the majority of the community hates) through lolita. And it's not like they're just the usual fetish ita wearing some milanoo tier shit, but properly coording their outfits, good enough to not stand out in a group shot of somewhat decent lolitas.

On one hand I feel like I shouldn't give a fuck and save my energy for other things in life. On the other I sometimes like to watch things burn and have this morbid curiosity what would happen if the word would spread, mainly if there's some community drama popping up, wondering how often things like this come out and how the community usually handles it, if there's any public reaction at all outside of cgl or if it leads into silent acceptance.

I know this is really lame and really cringey but I love wearing Lolita because it makes me feel like a cute anime girl. I have no interest in cosplay and no desire to be a copy of any character I like, but I never felt very cute or girly growing up and Lolita pulled me so far out of my comfort zone and made me feel good about myself in an almost surreal way. Cute makeup, cute clothes, cute friends, it makes me feel so happy in a way I always thought only existed in stories from series I watched.

The style of the dress is very simple compared to cuts of more recent dresses. AP prints now are larger scale and have higher contrast, which has its pros and cons. Sugary Carnival is famous for being super washed out "pastel vomit" (personally I think jewelry jelly and dreamy dollhouse are more guilty of that)

Despite looking old fashioned it's still loved and worn often by western and japanese lolita. compared to other older prints I collect images for, sugary carnival still gets worn the most.

I’ve sold some pieces that I really loved because they didn’t look good on my body type and I felt bad about them going unworn. They were bought by a somewhat e-famous girl in my comm who doesn’t fit into them and only uses them for flatlays. This really annoys me and I don’t want to sell her anything else that she can’t even wear, but she comes to every swap meet and is friends with the organizers who let her in early so she gets to snatch things up before anyone else. I think I’m going to skip the next swap meet and sell online.

We soon stopped after a couple guys sent several thousand to try to get her to visit them (even though she said she was only 16). Like trying to look like another character instead of styling myself to look cuter with what I have never really worked. My confession is that despite wearing lolita for six years now, I don't have that big of a wardrobe or own much brand. I would say my wardrobe is roughly 50% brand, 30% Bodyline, and the rest being taobao or indie in terms of main pieces, and almost all my blouses and accesssories are offbrand.

On one hand I feel like I'm not doing it "right" sometimes, but I can't justify spending money on lolita if there's more pressing things that come up, and right now I'm at a point where I love all of my main pieces a lot and I would rather invest a bit of money into more blouses and accessories so I can get more out of them. But then I also feel so out of sync when I see so many nice new releases come out but I hardly get hyped for them because I know I couldn't seriously consider buying any right now anyway. And while I have a dream piece or two, I've almost completely stopped looking. Is this even a proper confession? Should I have just left it at the first paragraph? I wish taobao didn’t exist. I’m not one of those people who thinks brand items are the epitome of quality, but compared to brand all the taobao pieces I’ve owned have always had SOMETHING off about them - the proportions are off, the fabric is flimsy or doesn’t feel like it was made to be garment fabric, the printing or stitching is bad, whatever. Sometimes it’s kind of subtle, but it’s always there. Now lacemarket is flooded with these garish plastic bag dresses instead of nice things, and I feel like it cheapens the fashion as a whole. Would honestly rather see a newbie in handmade - even bad handmade - any day of the week, at least that show some sort of commitment.

If the decent taobao shops had been freestanding lolita indie brands, that would’ve been fine. I dislike the whole concept of taobao with shops popping up, churning out crap to make a quick buck and then closing. The worthwhile shops do have a specific look/style though, and those ones are usually the ones worth shopping at. And they will be more expensive too, of course. For example, Ecailles de Lune is good quality (I own Forest of Pipe Organ from them). The fabric is a lovely chiffon, print is crisp, the (chemical lace) is nice and the construction is solid. In comparison, Secret of Kells from Knight Night feels much cheaper (the fabric is not chiffon, it's that generic poly anons complain about) and the print is kinda blurry. I don't regret the purchase and I still love the dress, but it's certainly not my nicest piece lol. As far as the brand goes, IIRC Ecailles de Lune it started as an offshoot of Krad Lanrette? I think it was called Dark Box at that time, then the designer split off, left Krad/Dark Box and created the new brand. And they've been around for a little while now. Infanta, Surface Spell, and all those have also been around for a while, have fairly distinct design sensibilities, and also have decent quality.

I've been tempted to get some cheaper dresser the same way I sometimes get Bodyline (for occasions when I don't want to worry about my brand) and from what I've observed of dresses comm members have purchased around the $25-50 price range, the low price shows when you do a direct comparison. These shops tend to have the super generic prints, cartoonish prints, lower end materials, etc. I don't blame some people (esp newbies) for wanting to buy up multiple cheap dresses to quickly create a wardrobe, but the result isn't going to look the best. But it's not all shops that act like this, just people who are hoping to make a quick buck off the lolitas who are looking for something cheap. So I totally get what you mean. Taobao is giving those people a platform to advertise and sell their crappy stuff, so...I wish it was a big easier to tell newbies to "go to taobao" but even then the nicer stuff is pricier, which can be a tough pill to swallow.

The more you do it the better you get at throwing up “pretty.” Now when I throw up I don’t budge a hair. Trying to get every last bit out is what does it, but also you kinda learn to relax your chest so it all opens up instead of tensing up and straining your face muscles. Not trying to encourage you, just trying to be honest. I know it’s terrible for me and has caused irritation in my throat.
I do it occasionally (maybe once a week) not because I want to lose weight (well I do just not that way) but more just that I wear a lot of tight fitting clothes and if I accidentally eat too much I hate walking around feeling too stuffed. Happens usually at restaurants where the portions are huge. I eat fast so I don’t feel full until a few minutes after I stop eating. I’ve tried so many times to eat slower, I just can’t. I’ve always hated eating slow and I can’t resist the urge to swallow my food after 2 or 3 chews. I even swallow gum.

As someone who was bulimic for a decade, that's what happened each time to me too. You literally just don't give a shit. It's more important to throw up than look "pretty". Thankfully I don't do it anymore. It wasn't fun at all and didn't really help too much because it got to the point I was binging just to puke. Puking fucks up your electrolytes and makes you feel high as fuck, so when I'd get stressed or feel any overwhelming emotion I'd get anxious and binge just to purge. It stopped being about losing weight and just became about numbing myself.

I'm not sure if I'm into the fashion as much as I was in the past.
I've been following lolita only for a short while, and started collecting pieces for it a year ago. I think I spent around ~$3k even though I only have one "brand" piece (AP whip factory). I don't really regret spending all the money but I kind of regret the choice of pieces because when I look at them now, I don't feel that strongly about them the way I did at the beginning (I think I only really like three dresses I have now, Summer Fairy's Monet print, Dear Celine's Little Witch, and Emily Temple Cute's patisserie print).
I just feel like there's a lot to consider when you wear lolita which is fun, like opening up the options to coordinate but things like really hot weather, having abnormally small feet and needing comfortable shoes, rain and so on, makes it really difficult.
I think I only wore lolita out to public three times and sadly, I honestly doubt that I'll get to wear them any more. I think it's also getting a little too expensive of a lifestyle for me. I'm thinking of selling all my lolita items except the aforementioned dresses.
I don't know how I feel about lolita anymore because every time I see a more simple dress or a dress inspired by campus wear (I'm currently a student) I still want them because I MIGHT wear them, but I decide against getting them because I don't have the headwear for it, or the shoes.
I could just leave the fashion but I have already been so invested in the fashion I feel like all the time and money I spent into it would have been a waste.
So.. what now?

I felt like that for my first couple years. Every time I wanted to go to a meet or even just wear lolita out I picked out a main piece and then realized there were factors that were preventing me from really creating a coord. Like you said, the weather, the supposed theme of the meet, the colors or shaped the accessories, cardigans, etc were off and didn’t go together like I thought they would, or just something. What got me through it was going online and just buying lots and bundles of secondhand accessories. I ended up getting a bunch of junk in those lots amongst the gold but it taught me what to look for in versatile accessories. Now I can buy new because I know exactly what will work. But seriously I have like 5 different black head bows (as an example) because you don’t realize how the subtle differences will affect things until you try to reuse the same basic black bow again and again and it looks off and then you get frustrated and just put on normie clothes. Sell all of your main pieces except for the three you really love and reinvest that money in a ton of accessories. It takes way way more than you think to be able to build a coord stress-free and wear lolita on the spur of the moment.

I don't like calling myself "a lolita." I wear lolita, yes, but why does that mean I *am* something? I'm me, not "a lolita." I feel like calling ourselves lolitas gives us an identity to attach to ourselves, and I don't think you should make an identity out of your clothes. It just feels like an extension of a persona or costume, and don't we hate being associated with those? You can want to adhere to the lolita aesthetic, but honestly at this point wtf does that even mean other than just wearing lolita? If "being a lolita" literally only takes wearing lolita to qualify, why can't we just say we wear lolita rather than "we ARE lolitas"? People who wear decora or fairy kei don't say they are "decoras" or "fairy keis" or whatever the hell.

They do the same thing in the punk community. It’s fairly annoying because my gf calls herself a punk and it is such a part of her identity she won’t do certain activities or wear things she likes because it doesn’t match the punk identity she’s imposed on herself. I think she’s low key embarrassed by my lolita, not in regular day to day life but to her punk friends because it doesn’t match that identity. Punks are self destructive about it too, to the point where they won’t get better jobs or live in a nicer place even if they can because it’s “selling out”. I’ve even heard punks baking fun of other punks and calling them “house punks” in a derogatory way because they have a job and pay rent. At least it’s not that bad with lolita

>> No.10333343

I have some advice for this, since I was in the same place at a point. Just make sure to keep a full coord that is versatile. Basically, you might have a day where you want to look good and lolita on campus, but don't wanna commit to something crazy. Just buy a couple versatile accessories after selling everything you need to. If you one day go out wearing that coord it might inspire you to come back to lolita.
However, you're in a time of your life where lolita isn't financially practical and that's alright. You don't have to give up on it forever, and if one day you decide to go back to it, that's alright too. Do what's best for you right now.

Has anyone else reached a point where they just don't fucking care anymore?

You care about yourself and your own coordinates, but if something isn't perfect, it's not a big deal, just find something that works better later. You stopped posting your coords everywhere and just enjoy wearing it with friends or to events and have a good time.

People who talk a lot about drama just don't interest you. Newbs will make newb mistakes. Itas will be ita. You've seen it all and you don't fucking care because it's old news.

The only time you tend to care about drama is when it's a massive community-wide issue. Examples: Anime Matsuri, the recentish Chinese scalpers, fetishists ruining everything, etc. But on an individual basis? You don't give a shit and it's tiresome.

Let's talk about meetup locations, or your favorite releases, or something you enjoy about the fashion. I don't care that Ashleeeigh from Kansas is wearing her bonnet backwards and swears by wish dot com for her sissy socks. This is where I'm at now.

>years later I still have it and have tried to get partners to dress up in it, to limited success.

this ugly ass ita tried to steal my boyfriend once and almost succeeded
>she's into ddlg and has multiple daddies (including a neckbeard with orange teeth that gives 0 shit about her) and she's desperate for male attention
>she didn't even like my bf, she just saw that we were going through a very rough phase and manipulated him to get her precious male approval
if i see that slut again i'll rip her head off

I posted about them previously in a different thread but my comm also has a few self appointed “newbie mentors” who are ita as fuck themselves and, despite throwing a fit whenever they get any semblance of criticism themselves, are total condescending bullies with their own brand of “helpful advice”. I’m pretty sure at least one of them selfposts to the ita thread because she always whines and fishes for compliments on FB almost immediately after she’s posted. I’d wonder if we’re talking about the same person except she does have more than one coord and I don’t think she was into lolita in 2013.

Lol, you can't "steal" men or manipulate them into cheating on the women they supposedly love. Fuckboy did that willingly, he allowed himself to be taken away from you. Your bf is just as much a piece of shit (if not more) as that girl.

This, she should be angry with him too. He's worse than the girl is imo.

oh i was furious with him and i'm still mad about it. i probably should've dumped him but i didn't at the time and now time has passed and he has learned his lesson.
They didn't do anything inappropriate either (never said they loved each other or even flirted) but he almost dumped me for her because she tried to convince him that things would be easier with her (lol). I understand being confused about your own feelings but that was still a shitty move.

I hope he realizes he's a lucky guy, not everyone is so forgiving and understanding.

sorry for double posting, but think i should clarify some things: the reason why i still fucking hate her is that:
1) she 100% knew what she was doing and actively tried to participate in the destruction of my relationship even though she knows exactly how much it means to me (and not even out of genuine love for my bf)
2) she never apologized (my bf did and genuinely feels terrible about what happened) and probably still does the same shit to other people to this day.

Try talking to your bf on that matter. There’s a big chance that he sees through how inadequate she is.

i think he understands now, and i don't really like bringing it up with him because it's a very sensitive subject. it's been a year, i'm basically over it now

I'm a eurofag so I'm pretty sure we aren't talking about the same person. It's a shame there's more than one bitch like this though :/

Just do this on LM. Newbs still exist, and they're afraid to shop elsewhere. Facebook sales is even better.
