I wasn't the anon accusing them of treating it like fast fashion. But if she actually was (which the equivalent in in lolita would maybe be some form of only buying every release new or cheap ones taobao/replicas to wear once and then tossing them out or donating/reselling them) then it would be bad for the same reason fast fashion is bad in general.

Idk her history or if she is doing that but depending on your perspective there are ways to treat lolita like fast fashion.

The argument that the excess waste is okay just because there are more dresses in circulation secondhand is flawed because it really depends on which dresses and every secondhand listing doesn't end up actually being purchased in the end. Mostly only brand and well known or really nice indie gets bought secondhand and that doesn't change the unethical or environmentally unfriendly production practices of certain factories depending on where you're buying from.

None of this neccesarily applies to the girl in the photo though and sometimes we aren't going to deprive ourselves of the fashion we all like even when we're aware of the impact of fast fashion on the world as a whole and it would be silly to be angry at each other over wearing something that wasn't made with the most perfect possible ethics.

The definition of fast fashion does not include "Made in China" nor cheap chinese labor specifically, especially since if it did half of F21, ZARA, HM, etc. wouldn't count since a growing number of their designs come from much smaller developing countries (China ever since 2-3 years ago put in stricter labor laws and wages have grown exponentially, so the cheapest brands no longer produce there). Fast fashion is literally and only about being fast, producing clothing designs and getting them out in a really short timeframe, usually within a month. ZARA is the best example of it

Fast fashion also doesn't mean unethical, though it's associated with it. If AP can create a design, produce it and get it on the showfloor regularly within a short "fast" timeframe, then they are fast fashion. They can be unethical while not counting as fast.

Fast fashion brands focus on delivering as many new items to consumers as quickly as possible, and a big part of the business model is that these items are made using the cheapest and least durable methods and materials possible to encourage people to keep consuming.

The movement against it isn't just about the negative impact of manufacturing, but also the impact after the clothes have been discarded.

And of course the other major aspect of fast fashion is the scale. H&M has nearly 5,000 locations. Zara has 10,000. Zara produces over 450 million items per year. But in any case, even the cheapest of lolita brands isn't fast fashion, let alone AP. AP's turnaround on making new designs is months, maybe up to a year or more in some cases. Note how often they're actually BEHIND trends, despite being the largest lolita brand, how long it takes them to release MTOs, and how long it takes for leaked pieces to actually hit the shelves. Their supply chain is slow, they release a limited amount of items per year and per batch, and their clothing is designed to last for years or even decades.

in my experience, I've found that most of the time, what I see as a good coord doesn't always match up to the number of likes it gets on CoF. I've had casual coords I threw together at the last minute get 300+ likes while coords I spend a lot more money and effort on barely hit 100.

Number of likes can depend a lot on things like what time/day you post and the level of engagement you get in the first like 15 mins of posting will basically determine how the algorithm will show your pic to others.
