I have HSV1 and the last time I had a cold sore was probably highschool, so like 10 years ago? HSV1 is so small during outbreaks that most people rarely get anything other than maybe a pimple. It really only gets ugly with people with weak immune systems.

HSV2 often requires open sores or shit like semen or vaginal fluids to transmit it, this is far more noticeable to most though can lay dormant for years. HSV2 sores are far more apparent and noticeable once they outbreak but again can lay dormant for a while.
