I already don't have an issue with older people who go to conventions and I don't find it odd.

Honestly, I think it's very cute when, for example, I see an older person cosplaying. I saw a very good Shiro (Blue Exorcist) cosplayer at AX and there always seems to be a Sophie (Howls Moving Castle) cosplayer when I go as well.

A good friend of mine is more out of the loop about anime than his dad, who watched the shows that OP mentioned when he was younger and still keeps up with newer anime.

I think that they just aren't as vocal as the younger generation and don't really feel the need to go to conventions and such.

I'm 38, and most of my con friends are in my age range. I'm friends with tons of younger people too, but you'd be surprised how many of us older people just fly under the radar because age never comes up and we're all just chilling and having fun. And sometimes, we're avoiding you guys because you weeb a bit too hard and it gets tiring.

According to everbrite and other vendors for tickets average age for cons is 30 to 34. This isn't like 12 years back when cons were primarily highschool, those kids grew up anime became main stream

The Asian Invasion started in '95 (when I was 17 and hooked on Sailor Moon, had access to bootleg VHSs, the WWW was primitive but we had it and it quickly filled with weeb and nerd content, and I had watched the Saban imports on Nickelodeon the previous decade). Americans seem to have a problem understanding this. Im 28 and dated an 18 year old and no one cared, not even her parents, because i look younger than her. There are too many factors to generalize things like this, a big one being DNA. I constantly get surprised looks when i tell people my age. Sometimes you peak in highschool (which i mainly noticed with Caucasian girls) and sometimes you peak in your late 20's-40's (something i noticed in my male friends and myself). It doesn't help that men and women have different skin, men tend to age more gracefully and with time they stop being drooling morons so of course younger girls want to go after them while they're still in their prime. Unfortunately this is only visually true, i do agree with current laws because most young girls save a few exceptions are very awful personality wise and their minds arent fully developed yet. Sorry if any of that soudned sexist, i have met and dated many girls who again, are exceptions, those being the nerdy ones.

Omg time to join a frat!!!” And having an actual job for a few years.
