This thread is dedicated to a new(ish) anime con called Anime Oklahoma. To be held at the Reed Event center in Midwest City, Oklahoma on September 13, 14, and 15.

Wow I'm in OK and just now heard about this.

>> No.10243628

Interested to see how well it does. May go next year.

>> No.10243881

Why not this year sempai?

>> No.10244081

The location of the convention is very convenient for cosplayers, seller's kiosks/stands, and other attendees. Within walking distance there is a Walmart Supercenter, Home Depot, Academy Sports store, and a Hobby Lobby! It's also very easy to get to the Reed Convention Center in the Sheraton, just exit I-40 on Sooner Road and you're basically there!

Hoping it does great, going to the con in Wichita this weekend so probably wont have the cash for this, which sucks.

>> No.10244163

Even if you can't make this one, tell everyone you know who can. If we can get AO going, it will be great. Especially after the TnT dumpster fire.

Yikes, I'd steer clear of the con just from that website alone

I'm going, plus bringing two friends as their first time going to a con.
I hope in future years we can get some good concerts. IMO those are always the best parts

Just because it's new doesn't mean it will be bad. Look at what happened with Tokyo in Tulsa!

This con threatened to sue anyone who talked shit about their owner being the fuck from Anime Pavilion. They had to start a gofundme campaign just to scrape up the money for the bare minimum to run the event.

This con is going to be a trainwreck.

First off: Steve Lin still "owns" the con - but has no say-so over anything related to it. It's run by a group out of Dallas/Houston.

Second: "Hightower" was purged from the con months ago. He, however, continued to give out info to dealers that was false. It caused many "fires" that had to be put out in the Dealer's Room.

Yes, ANiME Oklahoma brought in 900 attendees during the con. That is a confirmed number. How do I know? I worked the con and according to those in chage it was one of the smoothest conventions they'd ever see.

We had FUNimation voice actors Greg Ayres, Tia Ballard, Brad Jackson, and Barry Yandell as guests. They said they hadn't enjoyed a convention so much in a long time.

>> No.10257806

>>10257658
I'll take the bait.

Steve Lin owns the con, meaning you all wouldn't have your event if it weren't for him. He definitely has a say with your shit and he can take his undeserving money elsewhere if he disagrees with anything you do in the name of the convention.

Hightower was still at the convention selling his shitty art despite being a pedophile and there were quite a few minors at the event. Do some fucking background checks before accepting sellers unless you want a lawsuit you can't afford.

900 attendees is really small for an anime con, even for its first year, so that's not really anything to be proud of.

The voice actors probably enjoyed the event because it was tiny and they didn't need bodyguards to protect them from their rabid fans, but that doesn't mean it was a good event.

Stop sperging about this convention nobody cares about in a state nobody cares about, you're all not that impressive.

Some of the Dealers were still asking "Hightower" for info when everyone was told to stay away from him because he had been purged, but they did anyway. They were told whatever he said didn't apply and they either went by AO con rules, or leave. Nobody left.

As much as I want a new con to come in place of Tokyo in Tulsa after how shitty it was, I honestly just find it easier to save up a bit extra to travel to better cons instead. Maybe I’ll bite in a few years after some growth, establishment and hopefully a change of who operates as head of the con.

We will definitely start advertising the 2020 con much sooner next year. We now have a group of local volunteers who will canvas most any place a cosplayer or otaku might hang out. You all who went this year can also do yur part by tlling all your friendsabout it - and maybe even volunteer to work next year, we need the help to grow!
