I always sell with tracking and the price to ship a dress within the US for me is between $15 or $20 USD. I've only ever once had to pay the $20 amount because it was a velveteen dress, everything else has been brand cotton or poly dresses that doesn't weigh as much... But instead of guessing the final cost of shipping I just include it into the price and say free shipping so I can get it to people without any delays.

I used to believe these kind of rants and hotglued phone deco pieces to a ring base, it honestly did look like it really came from a kid's toy capsule, but that's what everybody says about AP's plastic stuff, right? So I figured I was on the right track and wore my things proudly.

Years later when I could afford it, I ended up buying a set of porter bear jewellery with my dress, because it was my one big splurge of the year. When it arrived, I realised I had been so wrong. Their plastic was miles better than the crap used for phone deco, and the edges were polished, free from jaggies. Their findings, pearl and chain where so much better quality than the stuff I found in the craft store. Plus the design was incredibly cute and way better than the half-hearted generic heart biscuits or whatever, and they matched the dress perfectly (well, no duh on the last).

This is how it happens, people rant about AP jewellery being overpriced crap, but what they mean is, it's made from plastic after all so they feel like they paid too much for it. But newbies see this and then decide they can cut costs by shopping at children's section for cutesy kiddy hairclips. Then end up wondering why they got posted to the ita thread with comments that they look like ageplay. It's really not the same. AP stuff is overpriced, but there's a shitton of differences in the material, the proportions, the design, just about everything about it from children's toy jewellery.

I feel like not many people realise how big the jewellery are. Porter Bear necklace is the size of my palm. The fancy crepe necklace currently in the store is listed at 7.5cm, that's not really small. Similar to this biscuit necklace, there's no way you can find these just in the kid's section.

Necklaces quite close to 10k yen whereas AP's necklaces run under 5k yen, usually closer to 3-4k yen unless they're doing one of their metal stuff like they did for CDC, Musee, etc. With a downside of the theme and sizing being somewhat iffy -- I think the macarons are okay if you don't mind the weight, but some of the chocolate-themed stuff is pretty small.

What's the average cost of international shipping in the US?

I'm from Europe and get a lot of US buyers interested in my sales. But overseas shipping is ridiculously expensive. It costs $13 to ship a small parcel weighing less than 120g. I no longer purchase items from the US due to custom fees. In the past when I have purchased from the US I was surprised by how reasonable the shipping charges were.

I’m so fucking sick of buyers acting like priority boxes are the only way to mail things. I pass on items all the time when buyers are like that because I don’t want to give their lazy asses my money. They lost a $50 sale because they won’t be slightly less lazy.

If you’re not mailing to one of the countries listed above and have a small parcel to mail and the buyer wants tracking, you can do regular first class mail for $15 and then add registered mail service to it for $16. It provides tracking. The seller has to sign for the parcel but it saves $10. You also have to wrap it up in special brown tape but the postal clerk will provide that. They don’t mention this option online, you have to ask for it in person. On the website and even in person they push the priority mail real hard and a lot of LM sellers are lazy and just use that, but the reason they push it is that it massively overcharges unless you’re mailing bricks

I don't know how it could be any easier than the way I do it. Recycle Amazon and other boxes I already have. I have a shipping scale that cost about $20, I print out labels at work and leave the item to be picked up, or small items can go in a blue post box. The shipping rates are much cheaper 90% of the time.

I don't like that flat rate boxes are called "lazy". Going to the post office to pick up a special extra box, then going home, wrapping your item, and taking it back to wait in line at the fucking post office again is not lazy. It takes up much more time. All so you can charge buyers more money.

People may not want to invest in a shipping scale, but if you sell even a moderate amount of stuff online it's well worth it. My items fly out the door for good prices while these $15 shipping blouses sit forever. Then the sellers complain that buyers are cheap. No! You could pocket more money if you were doing the true lazy thing like me.

You could weigh yourself on your bathroom scale holding nothing and then hold the item packed up and weigh yourself again. Your scale should show the difference if it’s digital. Then check the post office website to see how much it would be, then round up to the nearest dollar just in case. Worked for me in the past but now I have a kitchen scale I use to weigh packages (not super accurate but good enough). I’ll admit I use priority mail boxes and envelopes for what I ships. For one, buying plain padded envelopes is freaking expensive where I live. Like minimum $1 an envelope.
