Honestly I think a lot of it is wanting to capture something of the pre/early internet era and everything that goes with it. The 'imperfect doll' vibes meets 90s/00s street fashion of old school is just so captivating. I believe self-expression is about doing what feels good and 'right', not necessarily pursuing novelty or uniqueness. Some people feel closer to times they were never actually a part of by imitating styles. Clothing has an amazing ability to take you places that way.

I was so freaking close to being part of the Japanese early lolita fashion scene but missed out due to being an exchange student in the middle of nowhere. I didn't actually dress lolita until a couple of years later. Knowing this kinda haunts me.

Old school, or rather, what was around in 2001/2 was my first experience of the fashion, what I feel most passionate about, and I completely understand why people, no matter when they discovered the fashion are so drawn to it.

Umm, traditional is absolutely it's own style.
old school encompasses all three major substyles and other themes like punk, sailor, etc.
Traditional is heavily doll-inspired or classic fairytale inspired imo and is not tied to a specific era like old school is.
Old school classic is often very traditional in vibe.

I am a huge fan of "traditional" elements and style, which is why I also like many old school pieces.
