Let's talk petticoats, gulls. Where do you get yours from? Which brand is your favorite? Does anyone use a hoopskirt instead of a petti?

Is Malco Modes' 582 petticoat still a good option? I remember people used to modify them in the LJ days. My victoriangirldress one finally kicked the bucket and I'm not sure which brands are popular anymore.

>> No.10228305

>>10228298

It's been talked about in other threads, but Ariel and Aurora seems to have replaced Classic Puppet as the taobao choice of petti. Can't vouch for it, but my friends love it.

Personally, I swear up and down by Malco Modes because I am apparently autistic when it comes to textures, particularly organza. I have 2 by Malco, Jennifer and Zooey. Zooey is good for more daily poof, Jennifer is sometimes a bit much for my lower poof dresses. I can layer Zooey and Jennifer if I want mega poof. I don't really do cupcake silhouettes, so I never felt the need, but it's really easy to tuck the first layer of Jennifer into my waist to create a cupcake if need be.

582 is good for lower poof and filling in for wardrobes with either weird or varied lengths. If you need a tea length it works well, but you need a second overlayer to poof out the top and middle.

It's not just that one print, don't forget a lot of these factories have dress releases (and factory productions slots of those releases) booked way ahead of when you actually get to buy them in store. So it's probably more like they have factory X already slotted to produce half their releases until winter this year, they can slot some max number of Misty Sky into current year without messing up that production schedule (I mean regardless of it being a factory there's only so many dresses they can pump out per day).

If they overrun their slot for Misty Sky it'll mess up the rest of the releases for the year, and this will piss off their loyal customers who already own 6 copies of Misty Sky and want to buy something else. So then the next production time slot they have available is next year, so that would push the finish dates back to almost two years.

Keep telling yourself this. It makes you easier to spot and disregard. If you think people with middle to higher levels of wealth do not still judge people on these things, you are badly mistaken. It still matters to some people quite a bit. In career promotion to upper corporate levels above a certain level, in social arenas that separate the vip, in all sorts of situations. What has changed is the ability to learn these things and do better. People can do that now that's the difference, not that they don't matter anymore. Another is a director of a pharmaceutical company, he has a zenith watch, a pointed moustache, and he spends most of his spare time gardening and landscaping. The list goes on. My theory is the older dresses get, the more hands they pass through, then the higher likelihood that some pieces get mislaid.

For me missing pieces was more common way back when I started -- I could only afford old, unpopular releases since I didn't have that much money. So I'd end up with unnamed dresses/skirts that had buttons for missing pieces that didn't come with the dress. Might also have to do with owner's attitudes, the ones with missing pieces tended to be listed without a print name, so it looks like it wasn't all that important to the owner. The more value the previous owner placed on owning an item as a set, it seemed the more careful they were to keep all the various bits and bobs, along with matching jewellery and accessories, together.

The more I moved up to more popular, recent releases, and sets, the more likely they came without anything missing.

Ugh, that’s one of my pet peeves. For me, half the fun in this fashion is wearing it in my everyday life, not just sitting around at a tea party once a month.
Yes, being really fancy and dressing to the nines is nice, but I just don’t have 1.5+ hours every time to make sure my appearance is perfect.

And no, if any of my outfits is a little sloppier or going against too many guidelines, I don’t post it online as Lolita.

You know that the moment anyone labels anything lolita that isn't dressed to the 9's and elaborate event-ready, it'll get posted everywhere if it's made public at all.

Plenty of people wear the fashion like this and plenty don't post photos on social media. If we weren't so quick to grab everything from COF and dump it in threads here, maybe more people would be up for non-conforming and wearing the fashion daily without judgement from the peanut gallery and larpers.

By nonprint replicas, people mean things like a generic tartan skirt or solid cotton jsks, not unique designs. If you made a knockoff of Scarlet Primavera Waltz or Bless from Saint Michael, people would care even though neither dress is printed. Lolitas were angry about Hot Topic's knockoff Melty Moon bag, which is a non-printed item.
I'd consider a knockoff of a Kate Spade bag to fall into the same category. Yes, there's no print and it's not like the rights to making dinosaur bags belongs exclusively to Kate Spade, but this isn't just a generic dinosaur, it's ripped off of a specific dinosaur bag made by an established brand.

My comm is about 20 -30 people and we mostly do free events or picnics. The idea of it being a social club is so we could have more interesting and planned events, but split the costs amongst everyone rather than a single person who is hosting always being out of pocket.
