A-kon is in less than two weeks now. Are you still going? If not, what other cons are you planning to hit up this year? Any big cosplay plans?

Anime Matsuri was so bad this year . It was hilarious watching how it all fell apart. All the staff looked so sad and didn’t know anything that was going on

Going but probably expecting A-kon to pull an Anime Matsuri this year and be meh. It's fine though. Otherwise gotta wait a month and a half at least until Afest.

Same here! I'm going in expecting a hot mess, but a hot mess that I'll get to see my friends in at least. There's no point in being bummed out about the location/date changes at this point. I'll try to have a good time regardless. It's a cheap convention for me to attend anyway since I'm local and a panelist.

>> No.10195707

Allegedly, the schedule should be out on the 20th. Many panelists do not yet know when their own panels will be. What are your bets on the actual release date? I'm thinking the day of.

Same gull here, there's actually a post in the A-kon facebook group regarding it.

"Hey everyone, we wanted to take a moment to let you know that A-Kon is aware that there was an individual who had posted on Facebook about cosplaying at A-Kon on his page, shortly before opening fire in downtown Dallas. He was shot and killed by federal law enforcement officers today during this incident, and there is no current threat.

We would like you all to know that we actively monitor and take steps to avoid any possible threats to our attendees. We also want to reassure you all that A-Kon works hard to protect our attendees from dangerous situations.

Every year we work closely with the police, private security teams, and our volunteer First Responder teams to make A-Kon as safe and fun as it can be.

We understand that this is a hot topic right now for the convention community and we want you to have a safe place to discuss it. All we is ask that you please limit the conversation on this topic to this post, as there have been a lot of similar posts made about this topic today and we want to avoid the spread of confusion."

This is not true. Panelists have been sent emails with a draft schedule, but many are unhappy with the timeslots (Having panels on days they specifically asked not to, etc.)

>> No.10196423

>>10196146
I had a really good time there! The artist alley had some pretty good stuff in it, I liked the layout of the hotel, the game room was nice, etc. The only downsides were kind of bad communication, which seems to be common with a lot of cons right now unfortunately. They gathered contest judges last minute, posted the contest rules too late, and overall weren't checking badges very often. Having it in an airport hotel makes it kind of awkward to get to as well. Still, it's a new con so hopefully they improve in the future. I can't speak as an artist, though, but its pretty small if that's a concern.

It’s not that easy at all actually so I’m being patient here given the circumstances despite only sort of knowing my panel’s info, especially given A-Kon’s size. It’s not just pick some entries and go. Say Joe is submitting a panel called Making Cat Tail Buttplugs 101. We’ll call this a workshop panel, and Joe needs a classroom setting room for it. Joe is also unavailable Thursday all day and Friday morning and afternoon because he works at Capital One. Programming needs to make sure then Joe has a room, equipment, and a valid time slot if this panel is happening. It’s an 18+ panel, so it has to be at night. Oh wait, we only have 30 mics and the Dangan Ronpa Dating Show is using 10 of them on Friday night and that’s not to mention the other panels, so we can’t do Friday night. Oh, but Saturday night is booked. We have to move Jennifer’s Cosplay Skincare Panel from Saturday night now since she’s the only panelist who is 1) available during the day and 2) not doing an 18+ panel, but moving her panel to fit Joe’s panel fixes the Joe problem but now means you have to move around the daytime panels to make room for Jen, because we already told Jen she was in and she’s been teaching us how to remove our wrinkles so our 30 year old asses can cosplay teenagers for the past 10 years and it would be so mean to just reject her panel now. Now imagine this happening for every panel.

You're just pushing you're own tastes on others. There's definitely other cons to go to but in terms of jfashion, there's not much news on that. I’ve never seen it irl but I think it’s in pretty bad taste to do it in the middle of an event, especially cosplay contests since a lot of cosplayers are already miserable having been in their costume all day, chances are the contest has already run over time, and you’re just making a big scene and setting things behind by having to configure that time around everything else that still needs to happen during the contest.

I think public proposals are kinda weird anyway, it puts a lot of pressure on the person to say yes and if they do say no, it makes everything extremely awkward and makes them look like the bad guy.

A huge piece fell on me but I didn't get any real injuries, but my friend realized later in the hotel room that he definitely got some glass in his eye. I strong armed them into offering me a free badge by bringing it up in their forums after the con was over, but I didn't even go the following year.

Glad to see fellow old fogeys in here who remember this shit happening.

Was it screaming and pandemonium immediately? How long did it take for the lights to get turned back up and the chaos sorted? Did they clear the room, was the rest of the cosplay contest canceled? Did other events happen in the room later or did they have to move everything to another room and juggle everything around. I'm actually curious.

>> No.10202234

>>10202165
It happened in the dark, they kept the lights off and distracted on stage as volunteers came and scavenged all the stray glass. I wanted to keep the chunk that fell in my cup but those punks took all the evidence. The judging happened like normal. Like, if you weren't in the front right seating area by the stage, you probably barely knew something happened in that huge room.

I just remember us bitching about the security acting like nazis that year, banning everything for the sake of safety, then the dumbasses dropped glass on us.

Part 1:
Heidi and Jared were married. They decided to have an open marriage. Heidi fucked multiple dudes and even had a long term relationship with someone. Jared said he had feelings for Holly (another YouTuber, who was married to Ross from Game Grumps) and Holly agreed to having them, Heidi was happy for them and even texted him that he's free to use the guest room to fuck her. He supposedly did not have sex with her and instead took a walk and they discussed feelings. Heidi spammed him like a crazy bitch and got mad he wasn't answering. Jared eventually told her that Holly confessed that she only has feelings for Jared, not even Ross, her husband. Heidi was mad, she said the open relationship is done. He fucked Holly anyway. During sometime, Ross and Holly separated so she can move to Seattle, ironically, where they lived. Soon before or after, all the Game Grumps videos with Projared (Jared) were privatized.
Heidi supposedly found his old phone with the texts of them meeting up to fuck and them fucking during business trips. She got angry and posted it to Twitter and everyone attacked him of course. Holly comes out and tries to help like a dumbass and she gets told to kill herself and shit so she goes to a mental hospital. When she was released, she posted all the receipts of Heidi agreeing to them having sex and even the texts of Heidi saying, "Use the guest bedroom with Holly...you can fuck and pass me around between my boyfriend and you." Which Heidi said she was "distracting us."

>> No.10208093

>>10208086
*Note: Heidi posted that he cheated, not the evidence. She never did and then said she was told by her lawyer that she can't. Empty accusations really.
Part 2: During all of this drama, Jared was also running tumblr blogs with porn, all that his fans have sent him and more. Heidi knew about this because her texts have been posted about one woman in particular that Heidi "hopes shes cute in person too" before Jared went to the woman's room and fucked her. Heidi later messaged that woman and demanded why she fucked him. Jared sent that woman the evidence, time stamps all lining up that Heidi indeed agreed that he can fuck the other woman. So really, Heidi screwed herself.
He sent his nudes to multiple women, accepted nudes from multiple women as well, some were even minors. He still posted them to his blog and flirted with them.

I might be going to Afest or San Japan next. Never been to SJ before so I'm super excited. I honestly had a decent time at Akon, but I planned very poorly and ended up missing out on a lot of things.

Not sure what cosplays to bring, but I've been wanting to finally do a sports anime cosplay since SJ's theme this year is sports. But I'm hoping some of my friends will actually come with me this time and maybe we'll plan a group cosplay finally

La Panderia (downtown)
Meemos Bakery and Cafe
Mad Hatters Tea and Cafe
