Personally I'd just coord the dress sweet rather than buy a whole seperate outfit. The cut is pretty simple and the print is colourful so it looks easy to coord. For headwear you can either match it to your bag+shoes, or it shouldn't be hard to find a matching ribbon to the belt that you can whip into a hair bow or beret pin.

It's seen as gaudy and not cute in a Japanese-kawaii way. They use foreign models all the time so Japanese girls feel it is more suited to elegant/foreign looking/sexy types. Also they don't like the lazy clip art and painting prints and the relatively simple designs for near 40,000 yen (same as the Western lolita community). The sizing is also too big, especially size 2 and there's not much shirring or corset lacing on their stuff compared to other brands. Japan is also pretty conservative in some ways and jetj uses lots of art with exposed breasts.

My favorite things about the Classic style are first that it's pretty easy to tone down both a sweet and a gothic main piece with elements of classic styling so it's really the most versatile style. Second, that it's the easiest to wear most often in the everyday without going casual. Classic has always been lower tier below sweet. There was that moment for OTT classic from like 2013-2016 with jetj painting prints and huge headwear, but most of those coords and images were for special events and people reverted to their regular sweet wardrobe for other meets. Classic just isn't as forgiving in size and it's not flashy enough for most lolitas, especially noobs, to feel worth the price.

Nayrt but I think you're right. Also many western lolitas tend to get into the fashion through weebshit like anime and visual kei, and classic is probably the furtherest from that of all the sub styles, so it doesn't get as many from that demographic. It's also easier to make normie passing classic coords for everyday than it is sweet or gothic so I imagine older/more seasoned lolitas who have big wardrobes and want to wear it daily are more attracted to the style than fresh blood, who only buy one or two coords for meetups.

Like you said, sizing is also a factor but it seems a lot of the really diehard VM/MM fans who hang on every release are thin Japanese women who have probably been supporting the brand for a long time. They're the kinds of girls who have those huge meetups wearing one series. I think keeping those kinds of fans including us is more important and more likely than a 'classic renaissance' since classic was never really the big flavour of the month style like ott sweet was, it's always been sorta stagnant besides a few trendy moments like the ott jetj era. Right now moitie gothic is the big thing getting all the hype, but I don't see classic as it is ever getting that kind of attention unless another flashy brand or trend comes along to attract new blood. Even if it does get popular the trends will eventually change and it will die again. Might as well stay undead.

Their size M hasn’t really changed much on quite a lot of stuff, however, they do offer more often now size L, or pieces with a wider range of measurements. I can’t speak for their one-pieces though.

I've only purchased from IW when they had the free shipping offer recently, so I don't know if the cost of shipping would be worth it either.

I'd at least get a pair in each color since it looks like a good basic to have. I wish they came in white. Basic white OTKs seem to sell out first.

The gloves look appealing too, but it's still 88°F/31°C where I live, so that would be a silly purchase for me.
