With all the re-releases going on, what are the status dresses? Cat's Tea Party has been knocked out of the Holy Trinity, Honey Cake and Silent Moon re-releases on the way, what can we still be selfish assholes with?

>what are the current biggest status pieces

>do you expect status dress prices to drop or rise over time

>what do you think the next status piece will be

Feel free to share any rare/status piece coords in this thread.

Some reasons;
Puppet Circus because AP has said repeatedly that they will not ever do the detailed metallic printing again on velvet, it’s too difficult and expensive. I’m not sure why they don’t do the PC print as a MTO in another printing style though and new colorways since it’s such a popular and desired print.
Iron Gate because they actually lost the print file, or it was corrupted so it no longer actually exists. Even if it was recreated, it would likely have some small differences.

Tbh, I'm a little selfishly happy about this. Yeah, yeah, you should buy lolita for yourself and to wear it because you like it, not because it's rare, but that's part of the joy for me. I like having things not a lot of people have.

I've noticed a lot of people getting salty about others being proud about having an original release, and I just wonder, why do they care? If it's a dress you wanted, it shouldn't matter what others think, and if it's a dress you dgaf about, the same is true.

>especially since original vs later release matters in other collector's hobbies.
I don't understand why this is such a controversial statement. I've seen people get heated over calling it a collector's hobby. It may not be figure collecting, where they're meant to be displayed but never touched, but it's silly to think a good chunk of lolitas don't consider this hobby to be more than just wearing dresses.

I think I've seen this mentality more among newer lolitas, the ones that buy and sell pieces without a second thought. I'm not against newer lolitas, but I think they don't really have that kind of collector mentality that a lot of oldfags do. It probably doesn't help that the material used in a lot of newer dresses is obviously not nearly as high quality as the older stuff.

All the "collectors" I know wear lolita once a month max, if at all. Idk, I just really hate the thought of lolita as a 100% consumerist hobby. Having the courage to actually wear the fashion on a regular basis needs a certain attitude, courage and dedication and is not the same as just mindlessly buying items because they are rare and hoarding them in your closet.
And I disagree with you, newer lolitas are pretty much introduced to that collector mentality thanks to social media and its demonstrative nature and the like system.

The original was not a unique ooak piece though. It is usually the print and often a certain cut that people are after and in the case of some, if there is a difference, sometimes the second one is actually better, just like many are saying they like the new fabric better on the re-release of Honey Cake. In the case of an identical re-release, there is literally no special difference to cause the older one to be ‘more valuable’ in fact, older fabric and a dress that has potentially been worn a lot more is LESS desirable.

Its surprisingly easy to find this in black x pink. There's like 3 active listings right now.

Are there any close up photos of the embroidery on this dress? I would like to do something similar on a solid dress (but my own flower and arrangement, not copying this one, ofc) so I would like to see the stitching better.

Aside from the horrible and infamous alteration of CTP, are there any other photos of rare or status pieces altered? Any stories for better or worse? Is altering one of the rarer pieces more frowned upon or if done well would it actually increase the value if it fit more people but was obviously altered?

I don't think altering a rare piece would ever increase the value, regardless of how well it's done

I have it, I’ll take some pics for you when I get home tonight and post them here

I just bought rose ribbon embroidery and the previous owner altered it. I would never have done it but now that someone else has already done it I can enjoy wearing it and not feel bad knowing I destroyed a collectible dress. In fact since it was already altered I got it altered again to fit me perfectly and I’m sooooo happy.

What about the Iron Gate skirts that Mana signed at Sakura-con? That's technically altering it, even if it's just on the lining. That would probably increase the resale value?

I don’t think altering something really would ever increase the value but I’m wondering if it would decrease the value so badly if a rare piece was professionally altered? My dream dress still doesn’t fit right at my normal weight because my shoulders are too wide. I’ll probably never sell it anyway unless I leave lolita so I’m thinking of just giving in and getting it altered. Thing I’m most dreading is even though I’d get it professionally done, if it’s noticed, I’d be bummed if people talked smack about me for altering a rare piece like they did Tif who got so much shit over altering her CTP. I’m probably over-reacting though and many people have probably already discreetly done this with many rare pieces and it’s simply not all that noticible if it’s well done.

Thanks so much, anon! Embroidery accent on solid pieces is such a pretty thing and I really would love to use the same or similar embroidery technique to do one for myself. Close-up photo of the top and under-side of the embroidery please?

Just sell it to somebody who fits it.

Nope, but I figured someone would say this, since we are posting here. I’ll just suck it up and get it altered. As long as it’s clear to see that I’m not doing it because I’m fat, I should hopefully just be able to shrug off any potential criticism.

People hate on Tif for that alteration because she's a cow *and* it was altered very badly *and* because it used two dresses for that hideous alteration. I think invisible from a distance alterations are fine.

Tif got shit talked because her dress was altered badly. If you love your dream dress and want to wear it, I don't see any reason not to alter it. Anyone who's salty about that can just suck it

Altering will always decrease the value but I honestly prefer people who alter their rare dresses or dream dresses over people who buy them, never or barely wear them but never sell them either.

Black x pink version would suit this larme trend tho. Too bad they don’t make cutesy themed things despite the demand. Look at the latter release, everything is in stock but Milky Bear backpacks.

Thank you so much for these photos, anon. The roses are done differently than the stitch I was taught and I was right in my guess on the stem stitch and also about the technique used on the middle of the leaf stitch so it's really great to see all these details up close!
