I think the reason is because there are a lot of casual lolitas out there, and by casual I mean people with very small wardrobes who ony wear lolita occasionally, either because they don't have the time or the money. I think these people are just looking for an excuse to wear lolita most of the time as they aren't motivated enough to wear it regularly (i.e. normies who aren't that dedicated to lolita), so when ILD comes around, they go fuck it, and put on the few items they own. The result is an abundance of mediocre coords from people who don't own many pieces and don't have much experience with coording.

Does anyone else have any thoughts on this? I'd be interested to hear them.

Hey, I have autism, but I'm very critical of what I wear, to the point that even though I have 4 dresses and 3 blouses (and various other accessories/footwear), I haven't even worn them out because I'm not content with any complete look yet. People of all mental states have various degrees of competence with fashion. If anything, a tastefully minded autist would obsess plenty over matching and details.

Ditch the apron. Busy looks in lolita are often par for the course, although I can see your point with this particular piece. You may want to try toning it down with a dark peplum instead, to keep the majority of the busyness on the lower half of the skirt. But you'll want to balance the busyness of the lower half of your coord up top either way. I'd like to see some white accessories either in your hair or tied into the blouse somehow to make the white of the socks and shoes carry throughout the whole coord after removing the apron.

I just love the color coordination in it mostly, as well as her makeup. The blouse cut doesn’t look normie at all unless you think no lace = normie. The “peeking petticoat” is a nitpick that’s barely showing. I can’t tell the quality of the belt from this picture, and I’m unsure how you can. I’m not a huge fan of those gloves but I don’t hate all fingerless gloves. I can’t see the unicorn necklace clearly from this photo.
