i am currently still working on my cosplay because i am a poor planner and procrastinator. i should be done by the end of this weekend though.

"Anyone still going" seems to imply that some people actually aren't going because of the scandal. I'm sure this isn't the case.
The only time people in the cosplay community "cancel" conventions is when it's one they had no intentions of ever going to. Just a bunch of empty virtue signaling little bitches.
That said, AnimeNEXT doesn't seem to be growing into the AC convention center the way I assume they thought they would.
Definitely not a dead con, but one that seems to be unable to grow out of the mid-size convention tier.

I kinda do like how it’s at the shore, the good parts of ac are pretty serviceable and the convention center is pretty nice but I wish it was at least at a different shore city/town

AnimeNext 2015, the last year in Somerset, had an attendance of 14.5k(!) and an almost 3k person increase from 2014. The first year in Atlantic City it dropped to a bit over 12k, the next year it rose a little bit more, then last year it dropped a lot to just over 11k, having smaller attendance than Somerset in 2014.
I'm curious to see what this year's numbers will be like. I think a lot of people have issues with it being in AC, and I can't really blame them. I never have issues when I'm there outside of con season (since I stay at the Borgata and know not to fucking leave, ever) but it is an incredibly sleazy area. It's also expensive if you don't have a large group to split hotel costs with and it's basically impossible to get around without a car (safely).

yeah, there really are a lot of obstacles in animenexts way for ac, at least theres the jitney for most of the hotels and i really like the convention center.

how many years left do they have at the convention center, im wondering where they would move to should things get too dicey

I dunno if the activity of a cgl thread is really any sort of indicator of a convention's attendance. Outside of a few popular conventions, most threads only really blow up when there's drama going on. That said, I don't see any signs of attendance ever going way up for this event.

I recall seeing an article after the con last year that stated they're contracted out until 2022.
I have no idea where else they could locally move the convention. I think they'd have to go out of the state because the convention centers in Edison and the shitty Meadowlands in Shitcaucus are probably too small.

This is like the second year I’ve gone to a meetup so close to cosplay wrestling

Reminder folks, anime cons are fun and all, but the real show is taking place by the shore just a half a mile's walk from the con.

Shot in the dark: I'm trying to find the name of an artist in the AA, their table was (terrible pic related), one specific print I noticed was one of Kira w/ KQ standing behind (above-ish) Reimi from Jojo. Their art sort of had tumblr noses. I've been scouring instagram to no avail, I'm pretty desperate

Didn't go to any panels, didn't go to the rave, only went to the dealers room for probably a whole combined 20 mins all weekend but i still had a decent time hanging out with friends, meeting some new ones and getting super drunk at night.
It felt like there were a lot less setups at the game room this year but I could just not be remembering last year perfectly. Also felt like there were a lot less people than the previous couple of years.

This location can go fuck itself though, god damn fuck all of the normie AC tourists & locals.
I'll still be going next year.

It's either AC venue, or move out of the state. The only other convention centers in NJ aren't suitable for the con. Edison has basically no panel rooms and is just one big floor space, and The Meadowlands in Shitcaucus.....yeah that shitty little venue sure isn't a good place for it either.
I don't really see the problem with AC. Just fucking stay at the venue, and take a Jitney or Uber to your hotel if it's a ways away. The Tanger Outlet area near the venue is fine to go have lunch or dinner.
For some reason people seem to feel like they have to go out at night and walk to the casinos/boardwalk, etc. Going out at night in any big city carries risks.

Hopefully I've have both of them ready in time for next year plus another one if I have some funds left over.

Overall i'm gonna be doing all gender bent characters. Right now I have it down to a Male Rey and Male Morrigan (dragon age).

I'm currently deciding between a male Garnet, spider-gwen, or something else. I'd love some suggestions.
