I really went only for AWM.

It's unfortunate that AW is actually cancelled this year. I talked to some higher level insiders and they basically confirmed the earlier post between the infighting, the contracts with Japanese companies, the visa issues, and executive pay issues, AWM isn't going to happen. Apparently most lower level staff still think that it's still happening, but the executives have pretty much struck it out of the program. It just really sucks because this year's lineup had some really good guests.

I'll probably buy a badge for 2020, but bail on it next year. I spend a grand or two every year on flights and hotel and it's just not worth it when I'm burning two or three vacation days and there's no concerts, it's much better to just save vacation days up and go to Japan during the off season anyways.

Anyone have any clue who the possible concert performers could be? Sounds like the rumor is Aqours could be coming and a mini Steins Gate concert has also been pretty much confirmed by Funimation.

Curious if anyone closer to the planning process knows who the performers stuck in negotiation hell could be.

Trying to decide if I should just cancel my flight and hotel and just spend the thousands of dollars going to Japan instead because this year's anime expo sounds genuinely empty and if the relationship with AWM has been permanently soured there is no reason to ever come back.

This took me a few times attending to learn and is a great tip for anyone new to AX: look for information anywhere other than official AX sources because they will be the absolute last people to announce something going on, if they ever announce at all.

Last year, the scheduling was all kinds of fucked, too. The Aniplex panel was listed as a general upcoming series panel on the online schedule, but was actually entirely Fate GO and advertised that way everywhere else.
The Good Smile Company panel was listed as Figure Posing 101 hosted by GSC, it was their usual general content with a half-empty room and Gen Urobuchi showed up for autographs/photos.

I wonder if the restriction is AX policy or something put in place by whatever company is hosting them? Maeno, Kaji, and Mamo were/are industry guests, not AX GOH. I remember Miyu Irino was allowed to sign things from different series he'd voiced in.

I feel that the restriction may just depend on the company that's hosting the guests. There weren't any restrictions for the video game industry guests(Yuji Horii, Toshihiro Kondo, etc) who I was lucky to meet.
I didn't like that Square Enix announced right as the Yuji Horii autograph session was about to start that we could have anything personal signed though. Hope that doesn't happen for the other industry guests this year

That's exactly it. AX funded guests are obligated to do open, free signings. Company funded guests are not. That's also why you will see some people show up at the AX autograph ticketing booth and others not. Some might still choose to do so. Some might not do a single signing. Some might sign but it requires you to buy something or have other restrictions.

I can’t believe that Mamoru Miyano is finally coming to AX but it’s for FUCKING UTAPRI. No offense to that series, I have no opinion of it, but it’s niche as fuck compared to the tons of other very populary shows and video games that he’s been a part of. Most of his fans probably have no interest in Utapri. I never wanted this monkey’s paw.

Maybe niche in the US but definitely his most popular role in Japan. He’s been playing the main character for 9 years through 4 anime TV series and countless games, hitting basically the #1 spot for every dvd or cd along the way. This is also his 5th time singing the theme song.
So maybe not his most popular role in the US but globally this is what he’s most known for.

The movie looks basically like a concert and fans are already coordinating pen lights and stuff so the premier looks like it’s going to be fun for any idol genre fan.
