Reposting since I didn't get any advice last thread: Are there any non-China based Taobao shopping agents?
It's a long story, but basically, it seems like all the payment gateways used by Chinese shopping services no longer offer services to my country. I thought it was my card until I noticed that my order from Japan went smoothly, and when I e-mailed them, they basically confirmed my fears. PayPal, bank transfer and western union aren't available where I am internationally, ether.
Failing the first idea, would it be weird asking someone if I could pay them through a site like Etsy or Storenvy to order things on my behalf, then send them to me? Please help, anons.

They're all UTKs except for the btssb knockoffs, anon. We've moved on to OTKs because they look better than UTKs.

"From a distance" the cheap ankle lace eBay socks will still look better because UTKs are now associated with cosplayers "lolitas" who aren't into lolita fashion and don't know realise the fashion has moved on to OTKs since forever ago.

Seriously, last reply.

zettai ryouki top tier is thigh highs with short skirts, not OTKs.

The socks anon recommended are (a)lacey, (b)UTKs, and (c)have lacey sock toppers and finally (d)the socks toppers are raschel lace. This is the combo that marks them as cheap cosplay tier.

I feel like you want to to die on this hill "because UTKs".

On my part I should have mentioned it's not that they're UTKS alone, it's that anon particularly recommend (a)lacey, (b)UTKs, with (c)lacey sock toppers, and then (d)raschel lace is the ita topping on top of (a), (b), and (c).

In that particular combo, idk, it looks really bad. But honestly if you want to indoctrinate the newbies, sure, go ahead.

On 4chan I don't really care if newbies get shat on, I mean we're not facebook/tumblr/livejournal/reddit handholders, they know what they're in for if they ask for recs on here. So basically, okay, you win the argument, go forth and indoctrinate all the newbies into lacey UTKs if ya want.

Candy hair clips are meh, but I would have to see them with how you do your hair. I think the star bracelet is a nice touch because it's loose hanging and might peek out of the long sleeve blouse but I think the bangle from Angelic Pretty is not going to show and when it does we'll look clunky.
I'd like to see the sock shoe combo with the bonnet to really clarify how that looks in my mind but I think it looks okay based on what I'm picturing.

I agree with the other person about the shoes but just because they seem like they don't match the pinks. I don't think you have to be your spot on but a cool-toned pink and a warm tone pink on top of each other will look weird.
Also I didn't realize I thought those were ankle socks. I think if you want to balance the blue of the bonnet I agree with the other poster saying that you might want over the knees.

Is Baby as high quality as other brands? I've only bought stuff from AP and Meta and all my pieces are great. But I've seen people mention Baby not being as nice (not lined, runny prints, buttons not secured, etc.)

>> No.10157518

>>10157513
The issues that Baby has are completely different to the issues Taobao has. The dress you get from Baby will not look or feel like a dress from Taobao, and many of their styles are as high quality as other brands. They just often have a particular set of structural defects and stupid design decisions that have turned some people (like me) off from buying from them directly. If you're used to Meta and AP, I'd stick to those and buy Baby second-hand.

>> No.10157539

>>10157513
Baby is better than most taobao. That being said, they make some really stupid construction choices from time to time. Most baby I own is only half lined, meaning the skirt is lined but not the bodice (the bodice just has facings), while some are totally unlined. I think my Karami JSK was the only fully lined piece I've owned. Their bonned bodices are notorious for becoming damaged by the bones warping or piercing the bodice at the top or bottom. Occasionally their stitching can be sloppy. The print bleeding thing was because they didnt prewash the fabric after it was dyed so the colors would be more vibrant in stores. Stupid, but you can fix the bleeding with some patience and since everything is polyester now it doesn't matter. Polyester prints won't bleed.

Of the brands you listed I would say Meta is higher quality than Baby, due to their hardy construction, detachable pieces, and attention to detail, and I don't have enough experience with AP to say anything.

How can you think AP has better quality than Btssb is beyond me. AP is the most inconsistent Japanese lolita brand currently. They keep changing manufacturers so you never know what you get. Btssb defects were years ago and not worse than APs yet a couple of gulls keep bringing it up.

I have boned main-pieces from Jane Marple, Maxicimam and AatP, and desu I think the problem is that people don't know you can't throw that in the washing machine, iron it or fold it certain ways, even if you put the machine on cold handwash or delicates setting. I had to remove the boning from a Jane Marple JSK after doing that. It was just plastic but much more expensive than AatP or any lolita brand. The exact same thing happened to my friend with a Meta JSK. The Maxicimam OP had misshapen boning when I received it (according to the seller because of how she folded it in her closet) and I had to get it removed also, whereas with my AatP JSK I can just iron it back into shape. I think people just mention boning issues in relation to AatP/Btssb more often because they use it more often than other brands.
I mean are there any brands with boning that doesn't start poking through the fabric because of the washing machine, bad fit or wrong storage?

Could Lolita be considered "camp"?
As I read Susan Sontag's essay on it, certain concepts stuck out:
>Camp is a vision of the world in terms of style -- but a particular kind of style. It is the love of the exaggerated, the "off," of things-being-what-they-are-not.
>The hallmark of Camp is the spirit of extravagance. Camp is a woman walking around in a dress made of three million feathers. Camp is the paintings of Carlo Crivelli, with their real jewels and trompe-l'oeil insects and cracks in the masonry. Gaudí's lurid and beautiful buildings in Barcelona are Camp not only because of their style but because they reveal -- most notably in the Cathedral of the Sagrada Familia -- the ambition on the part of one man to do what it takes a generation, a whole culture to accomplish
>Camp is the attempt to do something extraordinary. But extraordinary in the sense, often, of being special, glamorous. (The curved line, the extravagant gesture.)
>Detachment is the prerogative of an elite; and as the dandy is the 19th century's surrogate for the aristocrat in matters of culture, so Camp is the modern dandyism. Camp is the answer to the problem: how to be a dandy in the age of mass culture
>Camp taste has an affinity for certain arts rather than others. Clothes, furniture, all the elements of visual décor, for instance, make up a large part of Camp. For Camp art is often decorative art, emphasizing texture, sensuous surface, and style at the expense of content.
>All Camp objects, and persons, contain a large element of artifice. Nothing in nature can be campy. Rural Camp is still man-made, and most campy objects are urban. (Yet, they often have a serenity -- or a naiveté -- which is the equivalent of pastoral. A great deal of Camp suggests Empson's phrase, "urban pastoral.")

i want something that i can wear every day without getting clocked as wearing a wig, and i prefer bangs. when i try to search for natural looking wigs, i get stuff for black women or old ladies or the ig baddie style of lace front wigs which are obviously not what i am looking for.
i looked for wig threads in the archives but everything that came up was cosplay wig threads from years ago. admittedly i did not scour them, i perused them briefly and could have used the wrong search terms for what i was looking for.

Which one you get depends on the cuts of dresses. Most Sweet dresses need a cupcake or bell shaped petticoat, or more than one for a lot of poof. Gothic and Classic usually need A-line petticoats. Melikestea is a good place to start as they have those shapes in a variety of colors and materials. For lower cost Aurora & Ariel on taobao have some nice petticoats. I've heard the petticoats from Wunderwelt are good too. As far as how they work... they provide poof? That part should be a bit obvious.

The corset will take in the waist, but depending on where the waist is hitting her it might not work. If the part that looks fat to her is the rib cage, not much it can do, if it is the natural waist it can compress it and shift the bulk down toward the hips a little. You don't have to tie it tightly or anything to crazy. It helps the clothes lay flatter, which gives a nice effect. I am not even close to over weight and it just helps smooth things out.

try to smooth out the sleeves as you're putting the bolero on. I hold the sleeve with one hand when i put the bolero on to reduce some of the bunching up issues.

Also if the coord suits it, I prefer cutsews under boleros. It reduces the bunching up issue. Do you mean plano non-prescription, or just without a contact prescription? I see plano contacts at a lot of Asian-owned black girl wig shops, but as an optician I can’t consciously recommend them. If you need prescription but don’t have one for contacts, you can calculate your glasses prescription into a rough contact one but it’s not going to be perfect, especially if you need toric lenses.

Best option is to just get a contact fitting done; it’s not much more expensive than a glasses exam, just tell your doc you need it, you don’t need to actually order contacts.

Really stupid question here. I haven’t been on in forever so I don’t know if this has been discussed and please forgive the tweet source being from a dumb normie, I need someone to help settle an argument: is the girl in this photo wearing her bonnet backwards?

Fluevog used to have some cute styles appropreate for lolita, but they discontinued those and none of their newer styles work. >>10162244
